This spacious cabin provided our family with a beautiful, comfortable place to relax for the brief time we were there - truly a return to sanity! It is an understatement to say that it is well-equipped and lovingly maintained. The woodworking skills of the owners and their sense of what visitors want and need in a vacation cabin are evident in every room! The many places inside and outside the cabin to sit and talk, read, or nap, including down next to the gorgeous river, are wonderful for those of us who long for solitude and a quiet respite from the rest of the world. You could forget the rest of the world existed in this special neck of the woods! The owners were gracious and helpful - available when needed and knowledgeable about the area and it's history, but allowing us complete privacy throughout our visit. It's easy to forget that their home is nearby since the cabin faces the river and mountain views - you feel like you have it all to yourself! Beautiful hiking, ATVing, rafting, kayaking, and exploration of historic mountain towns is all within a few minutes of the cabin. Wildlife abounds all around the cabin. We highly recommend this wonderful cabin, its owners, and the Alpine Township area. We hope to be back and maybe bring along some friends to share the experience with!

Just spent three great days and nights in this super Log cabin. Easy to get to and central to the entire Arkansas River valley from Salida to Leadville. Great base for a fishing vacation. Had my daughter and Parents with me and all had a great time. Katie is a great host and the cabin has everything you could want to make for a great stay. St. Elmo ghost town was a treat as was the good afternoon in Salida for an excellent dinner. With a stay in March being this much fun, I am only left to wonder how awesome this beautiful cabin would be in late summer or, better yet, fall!

This was our 5th summer to stay in this wonderful cabin. We knew from the first time that we would return many times. It has everything....beautiful views from inside and outside, fantastic deck, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water, fireplace and baseboard heat, outdoor firepit with seating, easy access to the creek and seating above the creek for just relaxing. Curt and Katie keep it in pristine condition, making necessary repairs and updating every year. And most of all it is located in one of the most scenic parts of Colorado with great hiking and four wheel drive roads right there. If you love gorgeous mountains and mountain gazing and/or mountain activities, you will love this place. We have already made our reservations for next summer.

We cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay this summer! My husband, 11 yr old daughter and I visit beautiful Colorado every summer. It was great to show up and have Katie there to welcome us! Curt and Katies cabin was absolutely adorable, very cozy and well supplied with everything you need for a week stay. We brought our ATV's and had a great time on the nearby trails. My daughter and I spent many hours on the log swing overlooking the creek while my husband was off riding the more daring trails. We really enjoyed the firepit during the cool mountain nights. The property is very peaceful, and the aspens are beautiful. We were fortunate enough to be in town during the Balloon Festival. Seeing all those balloons take off early morning against the mountains was breathtaking! We have stayed in many, many VRBO properties, and this was right at the top of our list!

We stayed here in July with our three kids. We had a lovely time. The location is beautiful and Katie and Curt were wonderful hosts. We loved the cabin. The sound of the river close by was very relaxing and we really enjoyed going into St. Elmo which is very close to the cabin.

One of the most relaxing and peaceful places we've ever been. We return every year. The cabin is very comfortable and its easy to just sit and look out the window all day. We enjoy hiking right out the door and occasionally the short drive to Mt Princeton Hot Springs. One tip, cell phones don't work at the cabin (and that's a good thing). Can't wait until our visit next year.

My wife found this property on VRBO while searching for a "cabin in the mountains by a stream." The pictures, description and affordable rate sold us. We were more than plesantly surprised to find the cabin exactly as pictured but the setting is so breathtaking and peaceful, it cannot be completely conveyed on the website. The cabin on Chalk Creek gave us the most peaceful and relaxing vacation in our 33+ years of marriage. It's rustic but has been updated with all amenities so don't think you will be roughing it. The Ogureks are terrific hosts - nearby if you need them, but respectful of the privacy of their guests. Turns out, we have mutual frinends who bought a cabin 4 miles up the road in St. Elmo. Small world. The Ogurek's aptly named, "Alpine Retreat" is just that. We give it an enthusiastic thumbs up.

The pictures don't do this cabin justice! It was beautiful and the creek really is steps away. They were perfect hosts and we can't wait to go back!

This rental is exactly as described and promised. The house is warm, comfortable, inviting and kept very well. We stayed in the winter but cannot wait to get back here and stay in the summer because of that beautiful deck. The setting is peaceful, the kitchen is very well stocked, and our family of four enjoyed every minute of all three nights we spent here. A real gem.
