Location: Samara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Central America (San Fernando (3 Miles from downtown Samara))
Accommodations: Villa, 7 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 5 Baths (Sleeps 10)
Keywords: House / Villa plus guesthouse
We welcome you to Hacienda San Fernando. The three bedroom, two bathroom main house sits on top of a large hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded on three sides by teak forests. The gated driveway is nearly one-half mile long. In the main house, all of the bedrooms, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen face the Pacific Ocean. The large living room has six french doors that open up on to the deep-water kidney-shaped pool.
One of the guesthouses has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The other guesthouse has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and large outdoor deck. The main house and guesthouses are all air conditioned.
The sunset views over the Pacific from the veranda are truly breathtaking. Views of Playa Carrillo, Playa Samara, Playa Buena Vista and Playa Barrigona can be seen from the property. The sense of quiet and peace on the property is very calming. Sunsets may also be enjoyed from the pool or from the twelve person jacuzzi which overlooks the ocean.
The property is a nature lover's paradise. Expect daily visits from monkeys, parakeets, iguanas, armadillos and toucans.
A caretaker and a maid live in a caretaker's home on the property (far away from the main house) and are very helpful. Daily laundry services and maintenance of the home is included.
Samara is a charming village with natural beauty. The town of Samara and its surrounding area offer a large variety of plants and the shelter of a coral reef offshore. The area is an excellent vacation spot with ocean and river kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, boat tours, fishing, canopy tours and ultralight flights all within minutes of the property. The local restaurants are excellent and serve a range of cuisines including native Costa Rican foods, fish, Italian, barbeque and more.

A four wheel drive vehicle is a must if you wish to drive up to this mountain top paradise. In every sense, Costa Rica is a very peaceful and relaxing paradise. Hacienda San Fernando is all that and more.To open the back doors onto the beautiful pool side and slide or jump into the gorgeous pool at the end of an adventurous day was one way to get refreshed, share a visit with the howler monkies and watch the most incredible sunsets. We found it to be stress free to say the least. The most beautiful beaches, Samara, Carrillo and Barrigona beaches are all close by and stunning. The care takers, Freddie, Louisa and Ivan are all very nice and beautiful people. We found them to be very helpful. They had everything ready and waiting for us to begin our incredible week at Hacienda San Fernando which was gorgeous. We loved every minute of our stay! We have traveled to places around the world and our only annual return will be to Hacienda San Fernando for the peace of mind and relaxation found only here.

By the time we reached the end of the 1/2 mile long driveway we knew we had arrived at a very special place. Touring the grounds and the three homes that we rented confirmed that Hacienda San Fernando is a very special place. The interior of the homes was immaculate. There were beach and bath towels enough for our entire party of ten adults. The kitchen in the main house has all new applicances including a new refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, toaster, blender and coffee maker. While the maid happily laundered our clothes, I did notice that the washing machine was also new. Freddy, the caretaker, and Louisa, the housekeeper, could not have been more kind and helpful. We loved Hacienda San Fernando. The nearby beaches could not have been more scenic and inviting. A once in a lifetime vacation for sure!

Upon arrival at Hacienda San Fernando we were struck by the natural beauty of property. Upon entering the main house, we were very impressed by the luxurious furnishings and artwork. The main house and each of the two guesthouses are comfortable, well-furnished and clean. The caretaker, Freddy, and the maid, Louisa, could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Hacienda San Fernando is truly a slice of paradise.

The pros: great view, lots of room, beautiful pool and jacuzzi (although not warm) and wonderful caretakers onsite. The cons: the driveway is a nightmare, there are not enough linens provided by the owners, it is quite a long drive to the beach, the refridgerator and stove are very small and outdated, the washer and dryer are horrible, there is no hot water in the guest house and you're asked to use the air conditioning very sparingly. Overall, the grounds of this house are very well kept (including the pool), but there are not many trails to walk on. The caretakers were very friendly but speak little to no english so it was difficult to communicate with them. If you're looking to rough it a bit, this is not a bad place, but if you're looking for a relaxing vacation with creature comforts, this may not be the place for you.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

This property is truly one of a kind. The views from the patio/pool are incredibly beautiful, much more so than the pictures show. The house/s are very comfortable and never feel crowded even though we were traveling with a large extended family. They are very nicely decorated and have everything you may want, kitchen utensils, pool towels, books, children's DVD's etc... The owner is very helpful, answers all questions quickly and is a wealth of information on the area like hidden beaches, restaurants and other interesting tidbits. There are caretakers that live on the property (in a separate house away from the main compound) and they keep the house and grounds in imaculate shape. They also helped us with grocery shopping and meals (for a separate fee), making our vacation completely worry free. As mentioned by the owner a 4x4 is definitely necessary in order to reach this property, however, once there, it's a true paradise.
