Lake House on the Southern Edge of the Smoky Mountains

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Lake Santeetlah

We used to have a house on Lake Burton in Northeast Georgia. Almost every parcel of land around the lake was built on and the lake was very crowded with boat traffic. When we discovered Lake Santeetlah and found out that the shoreline was 80% National Forest and would never be built on we decided that is where we wanted to be. The water level stays near full even during the worst of record drought years. Being surrounded by moutains is also a plus.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The lake view from the back of the house is very pleasant. The covered porch is a great place to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee in the morning or just to hang out, come rain or shine.

Rented 5 times

Date of Stay: 08/05/06 Review Submitted: 09/09/11

I've rented this property 5 times since 2006 and it has been great every time. The main living area is perfect for a large group to spread out and relax. The porch was perfect for relaxing in the mornings and at night. Now that I am closer to Lake Santeetlah, I will be renting this property again. Just booked it for a weekend in October as a matter of fact.

Charming House

Guest: lulu (Hollywood, fl)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 08/11/10

The picture of the house is deceptive. We thought that we would have privacy. There are houses very close on both sides that did not appreciate having renters. Also, the description says air conditioning, but did not tell us that there is only 1 wall unit in the living room, and the bedrooms were very warm. Also, the walk way to the dock is in bad shape. The house, though, was very charming and provided space for adults and children. We especially loved the big porch, which is where we spent most of our time. The house was very clean, and well supplied for our needs. The area was beautiful, but nothing is in walking distance. We enjoyed the lake, especially in the early mornings and evenings.

Owner response:After 7 years of renting, this is the only negative review. As for the houses being close together that exists on most lakes. We moved from Lake Burton to this lake because only 15% of the shoreline has houses on it. The rest of the shoreline is National Forest. As for the neighbors, they got upset when the renters began shooting off fireworks in all directiions without concern for the nearby houses, woods, docks and boats. They left burn marks on the deck carpet. Some renters have returned here year after year for the past 5 years. As for the air conditioning, the house now has a central system with 4 independent zones
