Edisto Beach is a lovely, laid-back community on one of the sparkling sea islands south of Charleston.
The community is small - about three miles long and less than a half mile wide - and while it is mostly residential there are restaurants, shops, a seafood market, grocery, liquor store, marina, a tour operator, and gas station. Just enough.
And there is the beach itself, where one can enjoy a relaxed and non-crowded environment for sunning on the white sand, shelling, fishing, and watching the pelicans and porpoises.
Wyndham (formerly Fairfield) Resort, where the cottage is located, has an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool (covered and heated in winter), tennis courts, fitness center, playground, restaurant, and private cabana on the beach. Some activities require a fee.
The cottage is nestled amid palms and subtropical growth overlooking the 16th green of the golf course. The bedroom has a queen-size bed and there is a sleeper sofa in the living room.
