My family and I spent 11 days here and had a great time. We had two parents, two kids age 8 and 6, and. 71 year old grandma. Great location. The owner was extremely helpful, arranging transportation to and from the airport. He met us at the apartment and went through everything with us and gave us a map and should us how to get to everything. We walked to almost everything and grandma had no problems keeping up. It was about a 15 - 20 minute pleasant walk to the Circus Maximus. We walked to Travestere to enjoy good food. An awesome local market was a few blocks away which had great food with fresh bread and meat. A ten minute walk to the metro which was very easy to use, as there is only two lines. We also took the bus once. The buses in Rome are much harder to figure out, but with the owners help, we new exactly which to take. If you want to walk to everything you can do so without much difficulty. If you want to take the metro, that is easy as well. We loved living in the Testaccio section of Rome. Our two boys went to the local park daily and befriended the Italian boys and played football every day. The Vatican was a bit farther away but taking the bus was easy. We would absolutely stay there again. The apartment was fantastic and it is great to have two full rooms and two full baths. There is a washer in the apartment as well. This was so much better than staying in a hotel. We felt we could contact the owner at anytime if we had any problems, which made our stay in italy that much more enjoyable.

My husband and I plus his parents stayed in this apartment for several days while visiting Rome for the first time. This was a great place to get acquainted with the city and to live like the locals do. We are walkers, so we did most of our traveling on foot with only the occasional help of a taxi, bus or subway (worth doing just for the fun of them). Maurizio gave us his personal recommendations on where to go and how to get there, and they served us well. The best part of staying here was that we didn't feel surrounded by tourists. Most of the time we went to neighborhood restaurants for dinner, and were pleased to be eating where the locals were. The apartment itself was spacious for the 4 of us. It has an interesting eclectic decor. The furniture was not elegant, but certainly serviceable. The beds were very comfortable! We didn't cook in the small kitchen, but it allowed us to keep breads, cheese and fruit for our breakfasts and snacks. (Go to the local daily market for supplies and a feast for the eyes!) The bathrooms were clean and very functional, even by American standards. While it's not in the very center of tourist Rome, I'd recommend this rental for its price and comfort, but mostly for the opportunity to experience a more 'authentic' modern Roman lifestyle.
Owner response:Dear Jane , thank you for your review! I am happy that you enjoyed the apartment and the area of Testaccio. I love to live here ,because I am near to everywhere but in the same time there is an atmosphere like in a little village. The kitchen of the apartment is little , you are right , but it is big enough to have has 4 fires, an oven , a microwave , a big fridge, a washing machine... it is not good just to make sandwiches, it is good to cook any kind of meal... and not just for 4 persons like you were, but up to 8 persons! The italian standards about the size of the kitchens are a little bit different from the american ones :-) ...but I agree with you if you say that, staying in Italy ,it is much better to go to trattorias or restaurants instead of cooking at home! And Testaccio is the best area to stay if you like genuine restaurants. Many regards and thank you again for your beautiful review! Maurizio

We dealt directly with the owner's Maurizio and Eleanora who were delightful. Everything they promised was delivered. They arranged a private car to collect us from the airport (for a small charge) and for someone to meet us when we arrived to show us through the property. The property is on the 5th floor, but has a lift at the front door! Very lucky and convenient, especially as we had a baby and a pram. The property was spotless, warm and well appointed in traditional style. Only a block to the central piazza of Testaccio and it's cafes and restaurants. The bus stops at the park and takes you right up to Via del Corso. There is also a bus that stops at the Vatican. We would definitely stay at the apartment again.

Two couples stayed here before embarking on a cruise. A lovely neighborhood, great restaurants, fresh market, grocery store all within walking distance. We have been to Rome several times and wanted to get away from the crowds, but at the same time have the best of Rome at our fingertips. It was a clean apartment no luxury but comfortable. The owners were most helpful when one couple lost their luggage. Very friendly neighborhood would go back.

I never saw the property owners do to some medical situations but different friends/neighbors of theirs were present to help me get situated and checked in. The apartment was very nice, clean, and a comfortable place to stay. Being located just outside of the downtown area we were able to walk to parks and interact with the locals on a more personnel level. Because we could walk to three different grocery stores from the apartment we were able to feed a group of 8 for around 15 euro’s a meal (far better than the 15 euro per person at most of the restaurants in Rome). There were several bus stops within a block or two that would take you anywhere you wanted to go. We walked to every major site in Rome minus the Vatican from our apartment (the furthest one away was the Spanish Steps and that was about 1 to 2 miles walk each way). I would recommend this apartment to my friends and I would stay here again if in Rome.

We had a fabulous 4 days in this apartment. Eleonora was filling in for Maurizio and everything was in great shape - Great location, clean, well furnished, the quietest air conditioning ever. The location is the best- not touristy, but everything you need. Around the corner from the best pizza I've ever had (Remo's), plus the market for veggies and more. Nice to have an elevator! On the last morning we were there I closed the door behind me and realized I had left my backpack, with a taxi waiting outside - called Eleonora and she was at the apartment within 5 minutes to let me back in. Really accommodating! Would def stay there again if I return to Rome on vacation.

We enjoyed over two plus weeks in May, 2011 at this comfortable, bright apartment in Testaccio. It was our second extended stay. We highly recommend it for people who don't want to be in the middle of the tourist areas, but close by (an easy walk down the Tiber to Piazza Venezia, the Forum, and other sites and the buses could not be more convenient) and in a very typical Roman neighborhood with a lively local market and some great restaurants. We highly recommend this apartment.

This beautiful apartment in Testaccio was absolutely perfect for us. We were two couples interested in exploring all the sights of Rome and we were not disappointed in any way. The apartment is large, very clean and beautifully furnished. The ensuite bathrooms were spotless with wonderful showers. Everything you need is furnished. We loved the outdoor market and the little park. Many cafes and very good restaurants are within easy walking distance, and bus transportation is only a short walk away. If you enjoy walking, most of the sights are within walking distance. Our host arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport and met us at the apartment to give us an orientation to the apartment and the city. Maurizio gave us a map and many recommendations for walking tours and restaurants. We found the lovely people of Testaccio to be very warm and welcoming and highly recommend this apartment as the perfect base for your visit to Rome.

Four adults stayed very comfortably for 5 nights in this lovely apartment. If you like to vacation like a local, this is the place to be. Very close to transportation, popular sites and an authentic market just 2 blocks away. The apartment was very clean and Maurizio couldn't have been more helpful. Neighborhood restaurants, and gelato were some of the best from our 2 week visit to Italy. Grab some fresh bread, buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and lettuce for a great picnic snack before you set out for the day-delicious! Testacchio is a very nice part of Rome, we all felt very safe even at night.

Our family enjoyed a great visit to Rome and stayed in this comfortable apartment. Our 3 girls stayed in one room and the Master was perfect for us. The description was accurate. Kitchen was great to cook breakfast and then hit the road to sight see. AC was a must if in Rome during the summer. A great thing to be able to come back and turn on after a long hot day sightseeing. I was able to do laundry, which was helpful. Supermarket and park around the corner which was convenient and very good quality. Many great little restaurants within a couple of blocks of the house. We loved all of them. Maurizio was very helpful with directions and I would hightly recommend letting him set up pick up and departure for you from the airport to the apartment. This was very convenient and removed a big headache with a family of 5 and luggage. We used a tour guide, Pietro, that Maurizio recommended and he was great. We spent two days with him and he was so knowledgeable, personable, and bonded very well with my children. He has a degree from MIT and has moved back to Rome. An interesting and kind man. Would highly recommend one day to get the highlights of Rome at least from him. We toured with him in a van, which was great with our girls. He told the girls, 13, 11, 11. many great facts about Rome and things that they were intrigued by. I would definitely recommend this property for a family or couple. Pizzeria San Remo and Trattoria Scolopini were great! Our kids loved sitting in the park while eating gelato. We all loved the Gelatto. Highly recommend Piazza Novena and walking Via Condotti to the Spanish Steps and then walking over to Trevi Fountain. Good street shopping on the streets walking to Trevi Fountain. We ended our trip with the Time Traveler. It was a great overview of some important things for kids to remember. The Vatican Museums are unbelievable. Every church you walk into is more beautiful than the one before. Take lots of pictures. We, of course, loved the coliseum and the Pyramid in Testaccio. We were in Rome for 8 days and still had more we could have done, but we really saw alot of Rome. We saw Bomarzo and Viterrbo with Pietro and that was very interesting. We loved Rome and would definitely go back to Italy! The Internet worked great at the house and we brought our DVD player and hooked it up to the TV for the kids to watch their movies when we were at the apartment. This all worked well.

My wife and I rented the apartment for 6 weeks. During 4 of those weeks, our son, his wife, and their daughter joined us. We found the apartment to be very comfortable and completely adequate for that number of people. It is also furnished very charmingly, with many nice touches. The owner, Maurizio, was very solicitous and helpful. For longer term visitors, location is very important. We have been to Rome several times in the past, but this was our first stay in Testaccio. We found this location to be ideal. Neighborhood markets, shops, and restaurants were within a few blocks of the apartment, so the requirements of everyday living were easy to handle. Furthermore, this area is very close to the center of Rome, and half a dozen different bus lines pass within two blocks of the apartment. We found it possible to reach most parts of Rome with no more than a 15 minute bus ride. We would recommend this apartment to any Rome visitor, and we hope to return to it again ourselves.

Spent 4 nights two weeks ago. We as four adults found this apartment fabulous. The owner ,Maurizio, was full of info, especially as regards transport from the airport. Let him book your departure taxi to the airport if required as this makes it oh so easy. The area is central to everything whilst having a somewhat village atmosphere. There is everything close that you require. I would recommend this property to anyone. In this old city of tall buildings, the lift was a blessing. It was a great choice.

My wife and I and graduate student son spent a week in this lovely apartment. It has lots of room, 2 bathrooms, which is a real plus, and a kitchen where we prepared several meals. We loved the location; you can walk nearly everywhere. Maurizio sat down with us a check in and annotated a tourist map. We followed nearly every one of his suggestions and were very happy we did. We felt like locals. Even the restaurant down the street that he recommended treated us like termporary locals. Everyone made us feel so welcome. The best part about the apartment is Maurizio. He cares about his city and will help you find its soul. When there was a glitch in getting to the airport for departure, he stepped in and made it happen! Really, it was service above and beyond. We really liked the area, too. It is a real Roman neighborhood, so you can go visit the tourist areas. Maurizio will tell you which buses return to Testaccio, so you can get lost. We would definitely stay here again --there's so much to see and do.

Our family of six stayed in this lovely apartment in December 2008 for 4 nights. Maurizio was very helpful and took the time to map out some good walks that we could do. The area was fantastic and we walked to all the sites. The only time we caught a bus was to go to the Vatican and it was just around the corner and very convenient. We shopped at the local grocery and pastry shops and went to a very reasonably priced and popular pizzeria at night. The apartment was very comfortable as we have 3 teenage children and a 12 year old. We were not cramped and the facilities were clean and modern. We had a great time and hope to come again. We have recommended it to family and friends. Thank you Marina, Pietro and Maurizio. Kind regards, the Mckennas.

My wife and I have just completed an eight week stay in this comfortable, lovely apartment in a great neighborhood. Can't say enough about the owner, Maurizio -- very attentive and helpful. The location is great. You are in a old Roman neghborhood with families, lively market, park and restaurants nearby. Very few tourists. A big plus. We were at the apartment during "football" season, and the loyalties are for "AS Roma". When they scored a goal, you could hear the cheers around the neighborhood and at the "AS Roma" club around the corner. Lots of fun! Trastevere with its sights, shops and restaurants is just across the Tiber. The central city is very accessible, minutes away on buses (with stops barely a block away) or the metro (a few minutes walk). We enjoyed walks along the Tiber to Circus Maximus and on to Piazza Venezia. Rome is such a compact, walkable city that everything is generally within reach. We would come back to Maurizio and this apartment in a minute! A great find.

First of all, thanks a lot Maurizio (apartment owner), also Marina and Pietro from VRBO for arranging all the pick ups for us. We have a lovely stay in this apartment. This is my third time in Rome and I will definitely come back here again. This apartment is very easily to get to all public transport (bus and tram) and the train station (if you like to explore outside Rome, like Ostia, Cerveteri, Tarquina, Tivoli. Also the metro station is not far as well. The apartment is very clean and tidy, and have all equipments you need if you like cooking (the local market is not far and if you like cooking, it will be a bonus). Also there are many lovely restaurants around the area with very reasonally price. If you want to stay away from tourists, here is the place to stay, you can experience really Romans live. Don't forget to stand at the bar to have a caffe and a cornetto.

We were able to park our car in a safe lot within walking distance of the apartment and walked or took public transportation everywhere.Maurizio could not have been kinder or more helpful. We particularly liked being in real Roman neighborhood with a park where children and dogs play and grandparents chat amidst baby strollers. Thank you so much for the use of your apartment in Rome. We really enjoyed this place. It was central to all our needs while on vacation in Rome. It accommodated our family of 5 very nicely. We were able to walk to the wonderful market around the corner for fresh bread and fruits. The market was an adventure of sights, smells and tastes in it and of itself. The first couple of days we would walk to the Circo Massimo site to catch the city bus tour. This is a great way to start your touring as the bus will bring you close if not right to the sights that are worth looking at. On one day we actually walked from the apartment to the Colosseum, next to the Piazza Venezia, then off to the Vatican, and, walked back to the apartment - a rather long day but well worth it. Thank goodness for the air conditioning in the apartment as the temperature was in the late 30's - early 40's when we went at the end of July, beginning of August - hot, hot, hot!! We enjoyed the local restaurants as well as the gelaterias' near the apartment. The apartment was very clean, the appliances all worked well. This was a wonderful place to stay to get a real sense of Italian life in Rome. We would recommend this place to anyone interested in visiting the area.

Although our trip began with lost luggage, Maurizio was more than helpful and accomodating by hand delivering luggage, taking and making phone calls for us as well as provoding great information about the city. He is truly an ambassador for Roma and Tessaccio. We thoroughly enjoyed the apartment as well as the cleanliness and updated appliances. We were a group of four adults and 2 children and found there to be plenty of room for us all. The location is fabulous as we were able to walk to most tourist sites and easily access to the market and local restaurants. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone interested in traveling to Roma.

You are also within walking distance to most of the main attractions and even some that are terrific that are not so mainstream. Access to Pietro's guide services with Stefan, his driver of a Mercedes van were also a huge plus and recommended to anyone with serious interests in seeing the city from a true 'local's perspective!" What a wonderful week we had in Rome staying in this Testaccio apartment. We traveled w/another couple, & found the apartment quite roomy & spacious for the 4 of us. It is in an attractive residential area, close to good restaurants, bars & supermarkets. It was quite easy to get what we wanted at a reasonable price. The apartment was a few minutes walk to bus stops & a 15 min. walk to the metro which we used every day. The owner made arrangements for a cab to get us from the airport & met w/us to tell us about the easiest ways to get around Rome & had lots of other useful information. What a great place to start our Italian vacation! A very nice place to stay!

We enjoyed the opportunity to talk w/ you when we arrived about the various sites to see, where to shop & the restaurants in the neighborhood. The 3 days we spent in this apartment were the highlights of a month-long ideal Italian vacation. Maurizio was the most welcoming and helpful of hosts -- his tips made it feel like we knew the neighborhood well. And what a neighborhood. The local park (across from the supermarket) teemed with families and activities. I think we were the only tourists there. On 1 of our days, we strolled along the Tiber all the way to the Vatican. On another, we wandered through Trastavere knowing we could find our way home just by reaching the River. Everyone in the neighborhood was so friendly and charming -- it may have helped that we were there during the semi-finals of the World Cup -- divine madness!

We have spent lots of time in Rome over the years and never did we feel less like a tourist than we did staying in Maurizio's apartment in Testaccio. It is the real Italy. The daily open market is just around the corner and one of the most authentic in the city. We would start every day there buying a few pieces of fruit, some salami, or wine, then stop next door for an espresso at the local bar. In the afternoons we would sit in the nearby Piazza Santa Maria Liberatrice where the kids played in the park, the grandmas lined the benches, and the old men smoked on the curb discussing whatever it is they discuss...a scene right out of the movies. The apartment itself is beautiful, it is filled with eclectic antiques, artifacts, and treasures from throughout Italy and the world. It is much more like a home than a rental, a very clean, bright, and sunny space. Maurizio's passion for design and color is evident throughout, and he understands American comforts. It was a very easy to walk to Trastevere or along the river into the historic center. Or if we wanted we could catch a bus on the corner and be anywhere in town in less than ten minutes. And as far as restaurants and wine bars go there were many great ones right there in the neighborhood. We loved our time in Testaccio, it was if we had discovered the last hidden corner of Rome. Thank you for all your help Maurizio, David
