Wesser Heights - Large, Lovely Nantahala Cabin, Privacy, Views
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Dreaming of a relaxing getaway on a remote mountain ridge with a great view of the Smokies? Wesser Heights Cabin is that place: a large three-bedroom, three-bath, Nantahala cabin with upscale furnishings and thoughtful amenities. With the Appalachian Trail just minutes away, you can enjoy a quiet walk in the woods or a longer day hike on the nation's most celebrated trail. Just five minutes from the Nantahala River and the Nantahala Outdoor Center, the cabin is a great retreat for those seeking relaxed solitude and for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking and some of the best whitewater rafting in North Carolina.
The spacious tri-level layout provides plenty of places for conversation as well as places for privacy. There are two large family rooms: one with comfy sofas, a large flat-screen television, fireplace, kitchen and dining area; and one with a large sectional sofa, TV, foosball table, and wet bar. Both rooms have large windows to bring in the mountain views and access to one of the decks. The lower deck has a large hot tub for six, and the upper deck has plenty of seating and an outdoor dining table.
There is a bedroom and a bath on each of the three levels, as well as a sleeping loft with bunk beds and futons. Each of the bedrooms has a television with DirecTV programming. Free high-speed wireless internet is available from any room or deck.
The cabin is in a very quiet, secluded location with spectacular long and short-range mountain views. Yet even with this privacy, it is only three minutes away from a convenience store and five minutes from three different restaurants. Shopping, art galleries, more restaurants and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad are just 15 minutes away in Bryson City.
Wesser Heights is ideally suited for larger families, or for couples to share. The number of adults is limited to six, but up to four children can also be accommodated using the bunk beds and futons. And, the cabin is professionally managed by a high-quality local agency for ease of booking and reliable support during the stay.
See our own cabin website (by clicking the link below the 'Links to more Information' section below) for more details and photos. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

Beautiful, spacious cabin. We had a great week here! We had so much room that we could all spread out as needed. The view is breathtaking, and is the perfect place for relaxation. We enjoyed the large deck and grilled out almost every night and played games. The jacuzzi was well kept and clean! The cabin is beautifully decorated and an absolute fantastic way to enjoy the view of the beautiful Smoky Mountains! My family and I will certainly stay again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our three generations from Detroit and Chicago just spent a wonderful week in this expansive and well-maintained cabin. The home and environs matched all the descriptions and photos in the listing and the VRBO comments, and was just perfect for us. We loved the roomy dining table that accommodated our North Carolina jigsaw puzzle for days while we could still have our meals at the other end of the table overlooking the mountains. (That puzzle is now part of the cabin collection for others to enjoy.) We played endless games of Hoopla (among the cabin game collection) in the evenings, gathered around the gorgeous coffee table, after cooking great meals in the well-equipped kitchen that comes complete with a slow cooker we used many times. Three of us used the wifi daily and easily accessed movies, Pandora, email, websites. We had a crazy range of weather in the last week of March, and we were completely comfortable throughout. Having separate bedrooms on each of the three levels, each with its own bathroom, was true luxury. And the 11-month-old member of our family learned how to climb the stairs to the upper level, with a parent spotting him, and was delighted with his new skill. The baby gate we brought with us easily kept that area off limits when needed. We used the provided (and very nice) high chair for his meals, and the provided (also very nice) pack-n-play served as a main level playpen (or out on the deck) from time to time. We enjoyed Bryson City, Dillsboro, NOC (truly just 5 minutes away), Cherokee. All of us hiked the Deep Creek trails with three waterfalls, and the Appalachian Trail accessed through NOC. The athletes among us ran daily on the roads near the cabin. My few contacts with the owner and the management company were uniformly positive. We're home now and already trying to figure out when we can return! I would certainly recommend this to friends and relatives without hesitation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the nice review. It sounds like your family made good use of the cabin and our beautiful surroundings. We are alway happy when other families enjoy their time there as much as we do :-). Please come visit us again!

As a Christmas gift to my husband's family, we decided to give us all a vacation and chose this mountain house as our destination! It was perfect and we all had a great time. Our ages ranged from 6 to 60, but there was something for everyone. We didn't even leave the house, but enjoyed the lovely scenario, perfect weather, and comfortable furnishings. The owners were helpful and everything was clean and comfortable upon arrival. We had an amazing experience and will remember it forever (we may even decide to visit again)!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: What a nice Christmas present! We're so glad that your family enjoyed your stay, and we hope you'll come back another time. Thanks again for choosing Wesser Heights Cabin, and for taking the time to post a review.

This was an EXTREMELY clean and organized cabin. It had everything anyone could think of! The downstairs great room was perfect for the munchkins! The house was a perfect size for 2 families. We can't wait to go back and stay!!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice review, and thanks for choosing Wesser Heights Cabin for your vacation. We're glad your group had a good time and liked the cabin. It really does have a floor plan that works especially well for multi-family or multi-generational groups. When you visit the Smokies again (maybe for the Polar Express again next year?), please keep us in mind!

We had a wonderful week at this beautiful cabin. It was very private but also close to lots of activities in the area and restaurants in Bryson City. We really enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. Our eight year old daughter enjoyed river rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, hiking at Deep Creek, gem mining, horseback riding in Cherokee and just hanging out with us. Having our dog with us made it special and we tooking him hiking at Tsali Recreation Area and the Kilmer Forest. The fall colors were spectacular! We would love to stay at this cabin again. The owners were very helpful and friendly.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad your family enjoyed your vacation in the Smokies ... you really picked a good week to see some fall color. Please take advantage of the discount for returning guests, and come stay with us again!

The description and pictures of this house are very accurate. The view from the deck, which is accessed from the main floor, is of a mountain range. The house is roomy and airy. All furniture is of good quality, fresh and clean. I've never stayed anywhere that had such plush mattresses and equipped kitchen. Master suite shower so roomy and great water pressure. This property is maintained to a high degree. We enjoyed suggestions left by the owners and others - whitewater rafting only three miles away (for adults and children), hiking wih or without your dog, reading on the deck in the rocking chairs and listening to the woodland sounds of birds, breezes and peacefulness. We would definitely reccomend this property to our friends, and hope to return next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. We really do try to make everything as comfortable and welcoming as possible. We just redid the master bathroom last winter, and the big new shower is definitely a hit! Thanks again for choosing Wesser Heights for your vacation. We would love to have you as our guests again.

We had a great time renting this property for 3 nights. The house is well appointed with everything you need. The furniture is very comfortable and the decks offer great views. You cannot ask for a better location if you enjoy outdoor activities. Also, the house is close to everything, but still tucked away so you aren't looking at other homes. We definitely recommend this rental property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks, Keri, for your nice review. I know you guys had a lot of rain while you were there and I'm glad it didn't interfere too much with your fun. Thanks again for choosing Wesser Heights for your getaway. We'd love to have you as guests again in the future.

Two friends, myself and our kids spent a week at Wesser Heights. The cabin was very nice! The kids had fun making s'mores in the fire pit, catching fireflies, and swinging. We enjoyed the hot tub and sitting on the deck! The cabin was exactly as shown in the photos, had everything we needed. The wifi was very slooooooww though - ok to check an email, but I needed to do some work, and it was just too slow. It was very close to the NOC, and easy to get to Bryson City and Cherokee. We went rafting, tubing, horseback riding and to the Indian sites in Cherokee. We also took the kids to the Ruby Mine just down the street which they loved! There is a long stretch of gravel road to get up to the cabin though - maybe 1/2 to 1 mile long.... it turned out OK, but the first time up, these city girls were scared! I think if we had known, we wouldn't have been so freaked out. I would not recommend arriving in the dark though!! After that though, we were fine - and our other non-city friend didn't see any problem at all! Very secluded area and it was nice for the kids just to be in nature. There is also a little cemetery that you can walk down the hill too - the kids thought it was really cool looking at the headstones and trying to figure out everyone's stories (like from early 1900s). All in all a great stay, I would definitely recommend. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review our property. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, and it sounds like your group packed a lot of fun into your week. Sorry about your troubles with the internet; we upgraded our service last summer and haven't had any issues with it, but since it's satellite-provided, I guess some days are better than others. We offer discounts to returning guests, so if you decide to visit the Smokys again, please keep Wesser Heights Cabin in mind. Remember, the driveway is only scary the first time! UPDATE: We were up in mid-August, and you were right -- the internet was slooooow. With a little tree-trimming and a new satellite dish, we're back to broadband speed. Thanks again for your review.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: Here we are enjoying the Blue Ridge Parkway in October.
Why the Owner Chose Bryson City:
After a visit to the Bryson City area in October 2007, we decided to look for our own place and purchased Wesser Heights Cabin in January 2008. We come up four or five times a year and enjoy sharing the cabin with our friends and family. We look forward to retiring to this area in the not-too-distant future.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love being so close to the Nantahala Outdoor Center and having breakfast at the River's End every. We like taking our dogs for walks at the Tsali Recreation Area or the Wesser Creek Trail, and sitting on the deck enjoying the scenery or a good book. The town of Bryson City is only 15 minutes away, filled with more good restaurants, shops, and really friendly people.
