  We used The Lure cottage for part of our Women's Retreat this past weekend. It was wonderful. When we arrived the cottage was very clean. It is very comfortable and we loved the way it is decorated. It had a great kitchen with plenty of cupboard space. It was perfect for our retreat because there is a lot of beds up in the loft. There is also the big screened in porch with lovely furniture. The weather was sunny and we enjoyed fishing, walking, and going to the bluffs. Scott and Martha are wonderful, warm, loving, hosts. We wiff definitely be doing another retreat here.

  The listing for this property isn't exactly accurate. While the photo shown displays a small portion of the Lure cottage, most of the picture shows the rental next door, which is very deceiving. The chairs, beach, etc. are all part of the cottage on the left. The land in front of the Lure was very murky and had black plastic tubing in the water, we weren't sure why. Also, more importantly, the water on the bay in front of the cottages was NEVER that clear. It is so entirely full of seaweed (growing and cut) that you couldn't see the bottom and it was only 3-4 feet deep. NO ONE would swim on this side of the house. The lake side of the house was beautiful but was so full of rocks that you HAVE to have water shoes to walk into the water. After about 15 ft, you'll find sand. The rocks are, I believe, to prevent erosion. It appeared that at one time there was some sort of screening or fencing around the rocks but all that was left was some rusty wires wrapped around some larger rocks on the shore so we had to be very careful in showing our children where to walk safely. I tried to bend some of the wires down because they were sticking up... I was not pleased. The inside of the house: VERY dirty. The walls had smashed mosquitoes and blood on them in many places, there were cobwebs and spider webs everywhere. There weren't any rugs anywhere in the house and when I asked for them so that we could wipe the sand off our feet before we went inside, we were told that no one had ever asked for rugs before and we never got one. The towel rod in the bath room kept falling down. All the kitchen cabinets smelled like mildew. There were no curtains in the main bedroom on ground level. The bed in this main room was a queen box spring on a metal frame with a full sized mattress on it. All of the pillows in the house were at least 10 years old, hard and just gross. The dirt in between the couch cushions proved the house hadn't been well cleaned in ages. There were no locks on the doors. There were bugs all over the inside of the house. The water for the house comes from a tube that leads directly into the bay and then thru a small filter, all exposed under the house. It was nasty. The owners of the property, and the property manager, Chris, were very nice. A brick of fresh local cheese and 2 bottles of wine were there upon our arrival - it just didn't make up for the feeling that we'd just paid a lot of money to stay in a house that felt like we were sleeping in a tent...

  Owner response: We have all 5 star ratings with the exception of one four star and this one. I would like to address this review. The picture of the cottage is exactly acturate. Each cottage has 9-14 addirondack style chairs depending on the size of the cottage. I appoligize for the weeds on the Bay side this year. We have had a drought and the water level is the lowest it,s been since we have been here. We have extended free use of our marina to the county weed harvester crew so that they can cut and collect the weeds around our cottages. Lake Ontario beach front has smooth lake stones on the beach and 10-15 feet out in the water. From that point on, the bottom is all sand with not a rock to be found. The swimming is great! As far as the wire on the beach on the Lake side, There are some gabien baskets burried on the beach to stop erosion. With the water level being down this year, a heavy storm exposed a portion of a basket. We have since had that basket removed. As far as cobs webs on the beach. Our cleaners clean and remove cobs webs before each stay. We also spray one a month to keep the spiders down. Spiders and the beach go hand to hand. They are harmless and impossible to completely exterminate. The towel rod was fixed the same day it was brought to out attention. We have replaced all the pillows in this cottage and have checked and replaced any pillow in our other cottages that needed to be replaced. Thank you for your input as this is the best way for us to become aware of any problems so that we can correct them for our future guest. Amy, we are sorry you had a rough week with your own family issues ie: fighting loudly and your teen age daughter running off. I can understand why that could amplify anything your could find to complain about at the cottage. Martha and I work very hard to provide you with the very best vacation possible. Unfortunately, your personal happiness with you, your family and any guest you may be sharing the cottage with is not within our control. We are disappointed you felt compelled to take it out on our cottage but we also appriciate bringing to our attention the things that were within our power to correct. Sincelely, Scott and Martha

  My family and I had a spectacular time at the "Lure Cottage". We all had a wonderfully relaxing experience, the views were amazing, the weather was great, the people very friendly and helpful. I took my 3 dogs and they loved being able to run around freely, they swam for the first time ever! I would definitely go back, in fact there was talk of making it an annual tradition. I came back home completely rejuvenated. Thank you Scott, Martha, and all of the crew for an excellant vacation!

  It has been 30 years since my family has come together on a summer vacation. My father use to put us all in the stationwagon bound for Canada. I can only hope Dad was looking down upon us at Scott and Martha's "Lure Cottage" in Sodus NY. The hospitality and attention to detail combind with the beautful water front (Bay in the front/Lake in the back) made for a setting and experience that could not go wrong. We were only there minutes when talk of our return insued. The hot tub, motor boat , kayaks, fishing, swimming, and relaxing in the sun kept everyone entertained. Scott likes to give people rides in his pontoon plane. Much to my sisters discontent there was some adjustments that kept him grounded. If there would be any dissapointment THAT WOULD BE IT!!!! In closing I can give Scott and Martha only my highest recommendation. Your cottages, care, and consideration was the reciepe needed to reunit a family and an idea my father started long ago. Thank You,

  We were very pleased with the Lure. The owners were great and very helpful. The beds were comfortable. the cottage is clean. The enclosed porch was perfect for eating and game playing. the weather was perfect all week. Its a great place to take your family . There is so much to do. Yes we would go back. wonderfull views

  The cottage was very nice and the location is really lovely. There is a porch to sit on and enjoy the water view. Lots of little rocks on the beach to collect, lots of movies for nighttime, great swimming and fishing. It rained for 2 days, and that is what cut our enjoyment a little. All activities are for outside...so we really appreciated the screened in porch!

  We just returned from staying at "The Lure" for a week, and it was terrific!! On the bay side there are 2 sandy beaches - one that is totally private and on the lake side we were easily able to have campfires on the beach and truly look at the most amazing sunsets and stars! Scott, Martha and their son were the very best hosts, making sure anything we needed was already available in our sweet and very clean cottage. They also were happily available to meet any wish we had - even taking my husband up in Scotts kitfox seaplane! The Lure does have a small deck that overlooks Lake Ontario - where we could have 6 people comfortably, along with the lovely screened in porch on the bay side. We we a bit concerned before we went about getting all our things over to the cottage in a small boat - but there was nothing to worry about - this wonderful family met us our first day with a large pontoon boat and delivered all our items to the cottage, and then also took all our luggage back on the last day. One guest who visited us was unable to get into our small boat (bad knees) and they even ferried him back and forth. We have already booked for next year!! Words cannot express how great this place is.

  Our family had a delightful week stay at the lure cottage. The setting was beautiful, the sunsets spectacular. It was relaxing and fun for all. Scott & Martha and their family were excellent hosts. It was apparent that they love where they live and enjoyed sharing Cresent Beach with their guests. We hope to go back next year.
