This lovely vacation retreat is nestled on a sunny hillside in historic Summer Home Park, a truly charming community that has some of the best beach property on the Russian River. Lounge on its spacious decks and patios, complete with hot tub, outdoor brick fireplace and brick barbecue, or stroll down to the private beach for a dip - where you have your own private umbrella table and chairs, and your own canoe and dock! Summer Home Park Hideaway has two separate, private cabins (you get both), each with one bedroom and bathroom. The larger 1BD cottage also has a living/dining/kitchen area with fully equipped kitchen, large screen TV with cable, stereo and high speed internet.

1BD CABIN: The main house features open beam ceilings and lots of filtered light. Sink into the couch and enjoy a good book in front of the fireplace. That's the front deck outside the window; the 32-inch TV is just to the right of the fireplace.

The kitchen has plenty of space to work in and all the amenities and cookware you'll need, including a dishwasher, gas stove, microwave, blender, a new set of knives, full set of new dishes, and plastic ware for kids and picnics.

The spacious master bedroom in the main house opens onto a patio and has plenty of closet space. You'll get a great night's sleep on the pillow-top queen-size bed. The adjoining bathroom has a tub/shower and a stall shower.

OUTDOORS: With two decks, both with patio furniture and umbrellas, you'll have no problem finding sun, shade, and privacy. Take a load off your feet and mind and bask in the tranquil surroundings in the four-person hot tub, or, for that matter, anywhere on this spacious deck. There's an old-time brick barbeque -- ideal for gatherings, with plenty of space to assemble shish-kabobs, and also a charming outdoor brick fireplace.

STUDIO CABIN: The studio cabin sits above and behind the main house, and is totally self-contained, with a full bathroom, refrigerator, cable tv, vcr/dvd, and cd player. Knotty pine walls and furniture, cozy queen-size bed, and plenty of closet space in this classic cabin.

LOCATION: The Summer Home Park community, founded in 1908, feels like a throwback to an earlier, simpler time, when summers were lazy and lasted forever. Uniquely on this stretch of river, it offers all kinds of summer activities. The community Lodge serves food and drinks, and offers games, a pool table, and outdoor seating overlooking the beautiful river. There's also an outdoor movie theater and summer barbeques with local entertainment at the recreation center. This is an ideal place to turn the kids loose.

Summerhome Park - Hot Tub, Canoe, Walk to River, 2-Cabin Home!
5/5

Homey, well-stocked, quiet, close to river, nice

Guest: G & P (Southern California)
Date of Stay: 06/03/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

We rented this place for a week. The house is homey, very well-stocked, with everything you could possibly need, and everything worked. The wifi was great, and the owner has put together a binder with good instructions and tips on local activities and venues. It's close to the river and lodge, just a short walk down the hill. (And the river is very nice.) The owner has a canoe, paddles, umbrella, etc., etc. The small cabin has only a space heater, which may not be enough in the winter. It was very quiet while we were there, but then, we went before the real start of summer. Sound carries pretty clearly through the woods, and the area is densely populated, so I suspect that it may be noisier at the height of summer. The community has a lodge, but it wasn't open yet when we were there, so I can't comment on that. Everybody we ran into (the "locals") was exceedingly friendly. My only disappointment is that the area is a little... funky, or at least funkier than I thought it would be. As I said, it's densely populated, but more than that, just about every house has a pile of junk in front of it and around it (old cars, building materials, etc.). The area has a lot of natural beauty that overpowers all that junk, but it would be nicer if the area was a little cleaner to begin with.
