Coming on the the island was beautiful and exciting. Never being on vacation for two months we were ready for sun and warmth. I known you cannot change the weather but staying two months with five decent days was sad. I totally agree the island is just for relaxing I was really upset you have to pay to go on the beach, the golf club was closed after doing the sight seeing on th island not much going on. bay watch is as described , comfortable. I am sure we would have had. More fun if . The weather been better. hd the weather been betterRecommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: Cindy sorry I can't change the weather. I think this has been the rainiest winter in Georgia as well. I can say it is not the norm !! Bellingrath gardens is close by as well as taking the ferry over to gulf shores, Fairhope is a cute town with shopping!!!

We rented Bay Watch for the month of January to escape part of the cold weather where we live. We loved it there. The cottage is nicely decorated, spacious and pet friendly. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the water birds on the bay. There is a large Heron that appeared on a regular basis: our neighbors named him Eddie. Every morning I took my dog for a walk on the bike path that runs nearly the full length of the island. We saw few other people on these excursions. Although the temps were a little chilly when we arrived, we had severals days in the 70's. Some friends from Chicago joined us for a few days and we were able to walk bare footed on the beach while the blizzards were howling in the north country. My husband did some ocean fishing and, one day, came home with a bucket full of whiting; we made a tasty cioppini. We enjoyed two Mardi Gras parades on the island when we were there. The local people were friendly. This is not the winter place for you if you seek shopping, night life or other excitement; rather, it is a quiet, very rural place that is best suited for enjoying nature, quiet meditation and relaxation.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This house provides immediate relaxation. Sitting on the back porch, the water, birds, butterflies, boats going by pull you into their rhythmic quiet. The neighborhood is lovely to walk in, and the house is nearby Shellmound Park, another nature trove. The kitchen is well-stocked, and the nearby seafood market was handy. My favorite part of Dauphin Island is the beautiful causeway visited by thousands of pelicans while we were there. There was also a migration of butterflies flying by in the hundreds as we drove over the causeway that was magical. The beds were very comfortable and well-equipped with linens. The nearby Bellingrath Gardens are delightful. Some of the restaurants were closed while we were there in the off-season, which was inconvenient. The owner was helpful in accommodating our stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I am in love with Dauphin Island. Definitely the jewel of Mobile Bay! If you are looking for a fast-paced, party all night, whooping it up vacation, this is not the place for you. Dauphin Island is a little chunk of heaven where you can kick it down a notch & enjoy the beauty of the flora & fauna around you. Spend time leisurely shopping in privately-owned businesses & leave the chaos behind. As one local put it, "We're not Wal-Mart & we don't want to be!" That about sums up the mentality of the place. The only negative I found that if you haven't eaten dinner by 8 pm your only options are the grocery store or the gas station Subway. I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful beach sunsets so this sometimes posed a problem. In addition to my love of the island, I found a peaceful tranquilty at BayWatch. It was absolute bliss! The cabin is just as described. The decor is tasteful yet homey. Beds were comfortable. The pool/air hockey table was a huge hit & a definite advantage as a means of entertaining the kids when you want to get away from the stifling humidity & relax in the a/c for a few. The view of the bay is beautiful, & many an hour I just sat on the back deck watching the boats on the bay while my children played in the back yard or caught crabs in the water. At first I was disappointed not to be on the Gulf side of the Island because I missed the lull of the waves but it definitely had it's advantages, bc I was witin walking or biking distance to all the conveniences & bird sanctuaries, between the house & the bay there wasn't any through traffic so I felt safe allowing my children to run around & at night it was so quiet that the only sounds I could hear were the frogs. Bay Watch is definitely a little oasis that I hope to visit again. Thank you Maureen & Keith for your hospitality in allowing my family & I to share your home! I know all of us wished we could have stayed at least one more day. Well, maybe next time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The house was just as pictured on the site, what was missing was the gentle breezes and the sounds of the birds and boats. You could sit on the balcony and feel the ease of tension from work or worries. Everything was neat and tidy. The water invited you to try your hand at fishing and crabbing or exploring the shore for critters and birds. Biking is a pleasure on the island with many stops to encourage you to explore, the shell mounds, bird sanctuary, Fort Gaines and of course the bakery! We visited the East beach and found many hermit crabs, the beach at the bird sanctuary was completely ours on our second visit; it had rained before and we were the first to return to it. By far the best beach is the West Beach. Watching the clouds roll in was fabulous as well, you could see them long before they arrived and the lighting strikes were beautiful. That's right we even enjoyed the rain on the beach with a large balcony it wasn't difficult. The one draw back is sore arms from air hockey but what fun it is to wind down in the evening with a little healthy competition.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was a great house. Close to everything yet as quiet and relaxing as can be. The Civil War history of the island must be explored while there as well as the Sea Laboratory. Both are awesome. As far as the house, the kid friendly concept is legit. The convertible air hockey/pool table led to multiple battles of air hockey and billiards. The kitchen is complete and well equipped. We did not use the gas grill that is provided, but it was clean and usable had we chosen to do so. Overall, the owners have provided a place to relax while entertaining the kids in an environment that rivals all other Gulf Coast destinations. The house gets 9.5 out of 10. The island is a 6.5-7 out of 10. The reason is the lack of palatable restaurants and watering holes that take advantage of the amazing beauty of the locale. The locals need to get busy creating an identity for this place. It lacks momentum. One other thing, I am sad to say my life is too busy to relax let alone bird watch. The trees within the designated bird sanctuaries are awesome and I saw many types of birds I had never seen before. There is also an airport on the island. As a professional pilot who flies in the corporate/private world, I would suggest making that strip jet worthy. People who own jets have money to invest. Check the area out......The house is awesome, the locale beautiful. I mentioned my beefs. Judge for your self.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Rob I am pleased to tell you there is now an amazing restaurant on the island . The Oar House is gone and Islanders is there now. Best shrimp and grits I have ever had!! Much more than just seafood , great service!! I was really impressed. Hope you come back next year. Sincerely , Maureen

This was a great place for my husband and I (and our 19 year old cat) to spend a week. The pictures really do not do it justice but exactly as described. Lots of space, comfy bed in main bedroom, bathrooms well set up, kitchen well stocked with pans, decent knives, spices/herbs etc. Cooked lots of good shrimp and fish from Skinner's which is very close. House within easy walking distance to 2 great birding places (Shell Mounds and Goat Trees) and also store (Ship and Shore, but bring your own produce, not great selection) and town shops. Also can walk to the Lighthouse bakery. Back deck great for relaxing and watching the water. Great house, great island. Hope to be back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent 2 months here this year. The house is very nice, exactly as shown. Clean and everything needed for our stay. Enjoyed bicycling on the newly paved bicycle paths, the bird sanctuary, Fort Gaines and the beach. We took the car ferry to Fort Morgan, and visited USS Alabama in Mobile which is just across the bay. The Common Loon has the best lunch and Skinners has the best fresh seafood. Dauphin Island in the winter is quiet and relaxing. It is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.

We visited mid December. Despite us being 2 couples and 2 small children, there was plenty of room. And although many of the restaurants were closed and the weather was rainy, the pool table and air hockey table kept us entertained. The selection of movies was also good for those cooler evenings. The home was well stocked, clean and kept up well, our host maintained good communication and was very helpful in providing suggestions to make our stay even better. Skinners stayed open while we were there and was the place for fresh sea food. We returned relaxed and hope that one we might return again.Recommended for: Families with young children

We were very excited to see the Bay Watch house exactly as described and super clean. My grandkids loved the water so close to the house, evening visits were a must. The air hockey & pool tables were a huge hit, we had some pretty heated matches between PaPa and grandson. Quiet and relaxing are the first two words that come to mind when I think of our stay at Bay Watch. The other adults in our party were especially fond of the back deck in the morning, that's where they took the little one so others could get a few more minutes of sleep. Comfortable beds, great A/C and pleasing decor were also elements of this house worth mentioning. Thanks again and we will be in touch for another visit in our new favorite place, Dauphin Island.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Wonderful place for quiet week, even with two teenage boys along. They loved the pool table. We rented a few bikes for the week so everyone could go where they wanted, when they wanted. Went on a great deep sea fishing trip, saw a few dolphins up close, and we're still eating some of the red snapper we froze to take home. Ferry ride to Fort Morgan was great and the architecture beatiful; then drive to Gulf Shores helped us appreciate what a special place Dauphin Island is. No back to back mega surf/beah stores and no high rises. All in all a great, relaxing week with just the right amount of discovery.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Maureen, Thanks so much for sharing your home with our family. Our stay was all that we were hoping for and more. The boys loved the pool table, fishing out the back and looking for the crabs. We only got to go to the beach a few times which was beautiful and tons of fun. We took the tour of Fort Gains never new my boys liked history so much. We also toured the USS Alabama in Mobile that is something everyone should see great for the whole family. I most enjoyed sitting on the porch looking out at the bay and just relaxing. Even though the oil spill got to Dauphin Island I am glad we never changed our plans. You were so helpful and understanding. We hope to come back and we will tell our friends and family about your home and what a wonderful place Dauphin Island is. Thanks again!! Maureen and Kurt, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your beautiful Dauphin Island House! We couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary! The house is so warm and welcoming, decorated beautifully and clean as a whistle! The view from the deck is perfect, and the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful! The weather was terrific, except for Saturday, but with the pool /air hockey table, great collection of movies, and comfortable house, we had a wonderful time anyway in spite of the rain! On the Sunny days, we toured the Island, mostly on foot or bike, and enjoyed all of the wonderful birding areas, and the unspoiled beaches! It is the perfect getaway for anyone wanting to avoid the crowded, commercialized beach scene! We have a new-found appreciation for bird watching now!! Dauphin Island is wonderful! So many friendly folks, great seafood and a wonderful little bakery that serves up great breakfast items and diet bashing treats!! The cream cheese danish are wonderful!!! All in all our trip was one of the best ever and your place was perfect! I recommend it to anyone, couples, families or someone looking for a wonderful , restful retreat! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! We had a great time! We hope to return to Dauphin Island soon! Thanks Maureen for sharing your awesome beach house. Spent the last week of February at Dauphin Island and had a wonderful time even with the COOL/COLD weather. Plan to return when weather is warmer so we can enjoy the beaufiful white sand beaches. Everyone should plan to do the Fort Gains tour. The seafood is outstanding and the people are all so friendly. You/yours have done a wonderful job on the remodeling of the house. Love the decor. Until next time. The Hollons.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house is AMAZING! What a relaxing vacation. We felt right at home in this house. It had all the essentials that we needed for cooking, etc. The back deck was our favorite! We spent a lot of time there just relaxing and watching the boats go by. Our boys ages 3 years and 15 months loved the beach and the Estuarium that is nearby. We will definitely be back! If you are going to Dauphin Island I would highly reccomend this house for your stay. Oh yeah, and Maureen you did an outstanding job with the decor in the house!Did you find this review helpful? What a beautiful home! The pictures are right on too! This home is so very comfortable, we were sad to only have the four days of vacation. We hope to return and stay longer. My daughter, son-in-law, son and soon to be daughter-in-law had a nice time on the beach. My son-in-law fished every night until dark. The four of them even chartered a deep sea fishing trip which left a full day of ME time to watch a movie and catch up on my reading. Every night was a challenge of pool or air hockey! My husband set crab traps and caught several blue crabs, which we ate for supper! My son even put on his water shoes and walked out in the bay and scooped up crabs with a net! My baby daughter and I enjoyed watching them from the balcony, as well as watching all the ships go by. The house itself is very nicely furnished, and Maureen (the owner) was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The realty folks who manage the house were also very helpful whenever we called them with a question. My 8-year-old son especially enjoyed the air hockey/pool table and has decided that he's going to save his allowance to buy one of his own! The house itself was very modern and well taken-care-of. And the master bed was very comfortable! (very important for a lady with back problems)!! You will thoroughly enjoy your vacation here.Owner response: TRACEY THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE LOVELY COMMENT. HOPE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL RETURN SOON !!!!

I agree with the last comment. I really wish we could have stayed longer. The house is beautiful. After a busy day it was great to come back and relax on the porch. We did a lot of birding and took some great pictures. When you rent a house, you always worry, but there is no need to worry with Baywatch. It is everything the website says it is.Owner response: Thank you Judy!! we look forward to your visit next year!!Maureen

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. I only wish we could have stayed longer. I had hoped to be close to Dauphin House, but had no idea we would be just across the street! The wedding was beautiful and we enjoyed Dauphin Island. Ship and Shore sells most anything you could need. Goat Tree is really something to see. Thanks again!Did you find this review helpful? Thanks again Maureen for sharing your wonderful home! Stunningly decoarted and well-appointed, it was an oasis. We spent the weekend birding the beautiful coast and cannot wait to visit again. A birder's paradise located directly between all the most important sites. Thanks so much!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Just got back from an extremely nice stay at Bay Watch on Dauphin Island and wanted to echo the previous comments about the house. Maureen has outfitted her "get away" with very nice furnishings and every possible convenience you could ask for! The place is immaculate and is within walking distance of many of our desired recreation destinations. As birders, we loved the fact that the house was only one block to two of the three most visited birding hotspots on the island. The views of the bay were excellent and sitting on the porch in the evening enjoying the last of the day was especially enjoyable. We found that doing business with the owner and with the management agency she works with was seamless. How nice to find that everything was as advertised. Thank you and look forward to the next visit. Bob and KayDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
