Property description

Villa La Peyrière is a beautiful old stone house located in Central Sarlat, surrounded by 2100 square metres of established gardens and just a short stroll from the medieval quarter of Sarlat, in the heart of the beautiful Dordogne.

The Private Pool is surrounded by landscaped gardens and is the perfect location to relax and soak up the summer sun.

Adjacent to the house there is a brand new Patio surrounded by gardens, trees and visiting bird life with two BBQs (gas and wood), creating an intimate outdoor dining area that makes the most of the outdoor environment and views across the valley.

The large and very private garden boasts a walnut grove, fruit trees and an extensive Mediterranean garden with a large variety of herbs. About the House

The house started its life long ago as two stone barns and has been restored and converted into one large home. The renovation has maintained the original Perigordian character of the property while adding modern kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The house is surrounded by just over 2100 square metres of established gardens with magnificent views over the valley while being just 600 metres from the ancient quarter of Sarlat where one can find an excellent selection of local restaurants offering regional cuisine.

There is private parking on the property for up to two vehicles.

The Rooms of Villa La Peyrière:

MASTER BEDROOM - The newly renovated master bedroom features a queen size bed and ensuite bathroom. A flat screen TV with a library of DVD’s plus an iPod docking station.

DOUBLE BEDROOM - A double bedroom with a queen size bed and quality fittings.

TWIN BEDROOM - A twin bedroom with 2 single beds and quality fittings.

THE KITCHEN - Features a fireplace and is fully equipped with oven, cook top, dishwasher, and microwave. Pantry staples such as olive oil, salt & pepper, tea and coffee are provided for the convenience of guests.

LOUNGE / DINING ROOM - A large living area is dominated by a commanding sand stone fire place at one end of the room and French doors opening onto the garden at the other end. The room is tastefully furnished with a combination of quality antiques and modern furnishings.

There is a flat screen television, a DVD player with a library of DVDs and a sound system with iPod docking station.

THE SITTING ROOM - A light filled sitting room made entirely of sandstone links the two barns together. This room is a perfect spot to sit and read or just sit and relax. A selection of books and games are provided for guests.

While you do not need a car while staying at Villa La Peyriere and are walking distance to all that Sarlat has to offer you will need a car to explore the surrounding area as public transport is very limited.

There are also several excellent markets in the local towns and villages, including the fabulous Sarlat Market held on a Wednesday and Saturday where local gourmet delicacies such as truffles, fois gras, local cheese and wine are on offer to the discerning palette.

The towns and villages of Castelnaud, Beynac, Montignac & Les Eyzies offer the opportunity to delve into the regions’ historic and prehistoric past.

About the owner: We are Australians who love to travel and have lived in France for over 4 years. Prior to France Karen lived in Venice for 2 year and Alex lived in Hong Kong for 3 years. We have both travelled extensively to various parts of the world with trips typically being several months in length and spanning several thousand kms. We believe in travelling slowly, searching out special places and allowing ourselves enough time to experience life there. - Sarlat is one of those places. We lease our house out over the summer months and take the opportunity to travel back to Australia, usually via some exotic location. We live a nomadic lifestyle using our French home as our base and spend 2 - 3 months a years in SE Asia. After France our favourite countries are Thailand, Laos & Vietnam followed closely by Italy, Spain & Greece. We love an adventure and dream (or perhaps fantasise) about travelling from France back to Australia in a Citroen 2CV.

Why the Owner Chose Sarlat-la-Caneda:
We have an authentic French stone house walking distance to the medieval quarter of Sarlat, one of the best preserved medieval towns in France. The Dordogne has everything a visitor could want, historic sites, medieval chateaux, quaint villages, great food and wine, pristine rivers and forests. We think the Dordogne is the best part of France and that the region around Sarlat is the best part of the Dordogne. - For us, it doesn't get any better than that. One of the great things about living in the house is its location. We don't need a car to visit the Sarlat market, pick up our daily croissants & bread, get a few groceries or a bottle of wine. We can walk to our favourite Sarlat restaurants or to the town square for our evening 'apéritif'.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Even though we are only a short walk from the medieval town square the property is very private and is set on 2000 square metres of land with view over the valley. There are lovely gardens, outdoor dining and a wonderful pool area for guests to enjoy. The important thing to remember is that Sarlat draws a huge number of visitors, particularly in July and August. Staying in our home allows you to escape the crowds, avoid parking hassles and still being walking distance to all the action.
