Rented this house to for a celebration trip for my wife's birthday. Pros: The house is rustic and charming - close to the ski slopes and about 5 mins drive from the lake. It is slightly older than some of the other places we'd stayed, but that adds to its charm. The furnishings are basic, but work well with the rustic theme. Cons: The cleaning service was less than perfect - there were cob-webs that were not cleaned, especially near the stairs. All that would have been ok has it not been for the really old and saggy mattress in the master bedroom (that bedroom has 2 beds - only one of them has a saggy mattress). When we complained about this, the management offered to open the in-law unit for our use. We chose not to use the in-law unit as we wanted to keep the family together, but ended up getting charged for its cleaning anyway. Bottom line: A nice charming place. Great if you are not planing to use the extra bed in the master bedroom.Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: The "saggy bed was replaced shortly after that guest's stay...most of the beds are near new..

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: Terry and Christine, shown w/family, are avid skiers and hikers. Originally from Houston,Texas and Vienna,Austria respectively, they both have grown to love the Lake Tahoe area, a 3-plus hour drive from their Berkeley Hills home. They bought the house in 1996 and did major upgrades of the kitchen (they love cooking),bathrooms and fireplace. Lots of high quality slate and granite! They especially enjoy a relaxing hot tub on the deck beneath the stars many evenings after a day on or in the mountains. Despite being 500 yds from Heavenly, the house feels secluded as it sits among 3-4 acres of pine and fir forest. The picture you see on the left was actually taken at their 300 yr-old restored Italian farmhouse on the border of Tuscany and Umbria(VRBO#198529)if you are interested in a trip to a magical part of Italy.
Why the Owner Chose Heavenly Valley:
Location! The house is on a quiet private cul-de-sac adjacent to several acres of open space. Secluded, yet near everything -- 500 yards slightly downhill from Heavenly's California Base Lodge and Tram; 4-5 minutes from the Stateline casinos, Heavenly Village shoppes, and two major grocery stores; and 5 minutes from the Edgewood Golf and Country Club and the Lake itself. You can also be hiking without getting inyour car..
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You can rent the Main House only, which sleeps 10 in 3 BR and a semi-private loft. Or you can add the street level 1 BR in-law (separate entrance) which sleeps another 5 folks in two beds and a queen sofa bed in the living room.
You start the ski day, practically on the mountain -- 1-2 minute drive or 8-10 minute walk. Heavenly is a great mountain for beginners and intermediates, and yet has some of the best tree skiing in the world! And it is owned by Vail Resorts, the best mountain resort manager in the country.
