Oregon Castaway is the ultimate in oceanfront family beach houses on the Oregon Coast - located in the quiet community of Nedonna Beach just few miles north of the town of Rockaway Beach. With breathtaking views, you are just 100 feet away from miles of sandy beach to play, build sand castles, splash in the ocean, hunt for shells and sand dollars, sun bath or just relax and watch the ocean waves roll in.
Take leisurely walks to the Nehalem Jetty and watch the seals and many species of birds. At night you can build a crakling beach fire and roast hot dogs and make some-mores. Castaway is an ideal home for several families or larger groups. The 2400 square foot home can accommodate up to 12 persons with three bedrooms, one loft and two bathrooms. There are 3 bedrooms with queen beds. The loft has 5 singles and 1 queen bed.
The spacious living room, dining area and kitchen are perfect for entertaining and relaxing with windows lining the front for a spectacular 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean and Neahakanie Mountain. The vaulted living room has a wood stove (wood provided), a 40" Hi-Def TV with Direct TV that has HDTV/DVR with HBO, Showtime and Starz and comfortable seating. The gourmet kitchen with a large center cook island is great for family gatherings while cooking.
The oceanfront dining area seats 10 and the cook island seats three persons. A separate recreation room has a TV with a VCR, Direct TV satellite (with HBO, Showtime and Starz) and a foosball table. The deck off the recreation room is great for catching the morning sun. There is a large selection of movies for you to enjoy. The home has wireless Internet access for your convenience.
Unwind and relax on the large oceanside deck with comfortable lounge chairs while watching and listening to the sound of the ocean.
There are many family activities to do in the area. Fishing, crabbing, clamming and kayaking in the Nehalem Bay to the north and Tillamook Bay to the south. You can visit the quaint towns of Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler and Rockaway with restaurants, gift shops and antique stores. You can also visit Cannon Beach with it's famous Haystack Rock and the many art and gift shops. Just 20 minutes south is Tillamook with it's famous Tillamook Cheese Factory.

I rented this home with my elderly mom, my sister and my two kids. We had plenty of space for us and more. The house is open and bright with beautiful views of the ocean from the kitchen and living room. Keep in mind there is a stairway that leads up to the front door of the house. This was a bit hard for my elderly mom. Also, the house does not provide paper towels or napkins so make sure to bring those along. It was a great beach house in a quiet community. We really enjoyed it!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

This was my second time returning to the Castaway home on Rockaway beach, and i must say that this go-around was equally as wonderful as the first time. The home's floor plan is perfect for all ranges of fun, and the ocean views, even in stormy January, are still spectacular, making you feel like you are on the edge of the world! I am a boy at heart and i highly recommend this place to those who want to enjoy the coastal Northwest! - even during the cold and windy months of the year. Things i liked in particular: - nice wood burner to warm up the living room on cold days. - home was, in my opinion, the cleanest "beach home" i have ever stayed in. - amenities were great - coffee pot, toaster, oven, microwave, foosball, board games, flat screen – you name it! - only 5 - 6 minute drive from the small town of Rockaway - great seafood and local restaurants! - the beach! even with gray stormy sky’s the beach is always my favorite. There was old growth driftwood scatters all over the place, and at low tide you can peruse the hundreds of tide pools at the water’s edge. - home owners are very easy and enjoyable to work with – a big-time plus! Couple of things to note: - the home books up pretty far in advance, so take that into consideration for the summer months! - The town of Rockaway is off the beaten track, so expect low-volumes of people and little noise! i definately plan on returning in the near future, and highly recommend this place to anyone considering staying at this home!
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

First let me say we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to rent here again and have recommended the house to several family members. That being said there were items that you ought to be aware of for your stay. Kitchen: - It said it had spices so I left mine at home. There were spices, but not always what I consider the basics, so I was scrambling to find stuff for the recipes I brought. I will say that I am a bit of a foodie, so what I consider basic may be more that most people. - No paper towels or napkins. The house had toilet paper but no paper towel with which we could clean our messes in the kitchen or napkins for eating. We called a member of our group that was coming the next day to have him bring these items. - The oven and microwave should come with instructions. I love cooking and am quite familiar with how to use these devices, but these models operated quite differently than what I am use to. It took five minutes to figure out the microwave and only a slightly shorter amount of time for the oven. Bathroom: As you would expect there is one bathroom attached to the master (downstairs) and one bathroom on the main floor. There is no bathroom upstairs in the loft, unfortunately this is where I slept. I didn't like having to go downstairs to use the restroom in the middle of the night or early in the morning when I was planning to go back to sleep. Other than those small issues, which if you know about, are easy to get around, we had a blast and will definitely be back.
