Located eight miles up the beach from the end of highway 12 and ACCESSABLE ONLY BY 4WD, awaits a place that exists somewhere lost in time. You'll awake to Carova's wild horses grazing on sea oats amongst the sand dunes. Watch the dolphins frolic up and down the ocean jumping and splashing and feel your worries wash away. Then take a stroll along the beach to find sand dollars left from the changing tides. See the beautiful sunset over the sound before looking up to see the milkyway in the Carolina night sky, then let the ocean sing you to sleep.
Come experience all these things that are unique only to the Northern Beaches of the Outer Banks. You will love all that 'Meant To Be' has to offer you as your vacation home. The ocean views from the upper deck and the ship's watch beckon you to stay and lose yourself in the enchantment of these beautiful beaches. The top floor has an elevated ship's watch with hardwood floors and fantastic ocean views. The great room opens to wrap around decks with ocean to sound views.
After you finish watching the horses and dolphins, take a stroll along False Cape State Park to shell for sand dollars and whelks and enjoy the natural beauty of the undisturbed beaches. Try your luck at surf fishing and crabbing or enjoy just sitting and watching the pelicans fish. Spend the day shopping in Timbuck II or in the town of Duck then enjoy one of their many fine restaurants. Climb the Currituck Light House. Take a drive South on Highway 12 to Hatteras Island and Hatteras Lighthouse and enjoy the over 70 miles of undeveloped National Seashore.
Continue south and ride the ferry to Ocracoke Island. Visit Roanoke Island and the North Carolina Aquarium. Take a chartered fishing trip from Oregon Inlet, known for some of the best fishing along the Atlantic Coastline. Play a round of gold at the Currituck Club. Take an adventurous kayak or ATV tour. Or just relax on the beach or by the poolside and soak up the day. Don't forget to watch the absolutely beautiful sunset over the sound before you look up to see the milkyway in the Carolina night sky and then let the ocean sing you to sleep.
An extra large kitchen offers two dishwashers and is fully stocked with all amenities. The second floor has four bedrooms. The two masters opening to wrap around decks with two porch swings. The bottom level has one bedroom with full bath, a game room with a pool table and kitchenette. Outside, enjoy a large private pool and hot tub. Wish upon a shooting star while enjoying an evening in the hot tub. Come stay awhile and you will fall in love!

We just returned from a terrific visit to "Meant to Be", and must say that this is a beautiful home. One of the things we noticed immediately is how well equipped the home is. Except for beach towels and food, virtually anything we could need was there and available. Well maintained, Bill & Melissa are excellent hosts, and would highly recommend this property. Just remember that being about 8 miles up the sandy beach you need to bring everything with you.... it's not just a quick drive to the convenience store! And yes, it's true about the wild horses, they still come strolling through the yard every day! Views are great, short walk or ride to the beach, pool and hot tub are excellent! Welcome gift a very nice touch. Would suggest bringing some drinking water. Will definitely rent again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 10/10

Just returned from the best vacation of our lives. Weather was fantastic, the house was beyond our expectations. It was a beautiful, clean, and well furnished home. The pictures do not do it justice. Driving on the beach was a new experience, and horses were daily visitors. They didn't mind " posing " for pictures !!! I can't say enough about this home !! Thank you, Melissa and Bill for allowing us to stay at Meant To Be. It was a vacation we will never forget. Also, thank you for our welcom gift. Every time I use them, we will be reminded of a fantastic week that was "meant to be "Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! There is nothing more rewarding than to hear these comments from our guests! We realize how important vacations are (as we did not have any ourselves for many years) and we hope to make that vacation as memorable as possible for all those that stay at Meant To Be.

Our group stayed at this lovely home in early June, and included 6 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and 6). While we did bring our own beach chairs, toys, etc, we soon found we hadn't needed to, since the owners have pretty much everythng one would need for a great beach day - they really do think of everything! The house is decorated beautifully and has lots of great amenities. The kitchen, especially, is very well stocked - one of our crew is a chef, and he had everything he could have needed to make wonderful meals every evening. Finally, the views...the views! From the multi-level decks to the living room and the Ships Watch one can get a great view of the dunes and ocean. Beach is definitely within walking distance (we did every day). Horses everywhere, too - we saw them many times every day. Driving on the beach is an adventure and really fun! We barely left the house, since there was so much to do right here! Stay here - you'll love it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much! As always, we are humbled to hear such wonderful things about our home. We are headed to MTB this week to begin the closing of our 10th rental season. These kind words just made all the work ahead of us for the week a "labor of love"! Thank You! Melissa & Bill

When we arrived at this wonderful beach house, it was even better than we had hoped for! The house was lovely, and so clean! The view was awesome, especially from the Captain's Watch room! Our children loved the privacy of the pool & we saw the wild horses every day! Melissa & Bill were great, and so easy to work with! We would most certainly recommend this property & location!!!! It was a wonderful family vacation! Thanks, Melissa & Bill for sharing your WONDERFUL HOME with us!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much. We are thrilled that you loved our home as much as we do. And as for Carova Beach and the horses, they hold a magic all their own! Many years ago when we rented our first home on Carova, we had a wonderful homeowner work with us. Now we have been given the opportunity to Pay It forward. Thank you for choosing Meant To Be as your vacation home. Melissa & Bill

What a wonderful time we had! This home is excellent. Melissa was such a pleasure to deal with and we absolutely love her home. It is honestly like having a home away from home. They have thought of everything. The horses were precious and watching them was a wonderful experience. The 4 X 4 area is by far our favorite and we hope to come again soon. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much! Bills and my main goal is to share a home with our guests, not a rental property. We built this home on a wing and a prayer and hope to retire there someday. It is the most special place in the world to us and we love having the opportunity to help be a part of making memorable vacations for other.

We have stayed at MTB so many times over the years that we've lost count. The last was during Thanksgiving 2011. It has everything you need including two dishwashers, two refrigerators, and two microwaves (comes in handy during Thanksgiving!). Our family and friends drive up to 6 hours to meet us at this wonderful vacation destination. It's thrilling to drive up the beach and get away from it all. The views, pool, hot tub, and daily visits from the horses make this a dream home. We consider this our own private beach house even though Melissa and Bill are the owners. They are terrific people to work with and even though we've never met in person, we consider them friends. You can't go wrong with renting this home. We can't wait until we return again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you to one of our regulars !!! We are thrilled to have met so many wonderful people through the years, and honored to now call some our friends. Thanks for sharing so many of your Meant To Be memories through the years !!!

This was our third time to Carova and our third stay at "Meant to Be" and we would never stay anywhere else. Melissa and Bill, thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home--the photos do not do it justice. It is so beautifully decorated and cozy--our favorite place to be is in the Captain's Watch. That is always my first place to sit and our place for our parting photos! This time we took my parents and they loved it as much as we did. The daily visits from the horses were the high point for them, but they did enjoy the private pool. It was the first time they had swam in years! Not sure if we will get to return to the beach next year, but if we do it will be home to "Meant to Be"!! Thank you again for a truly wonderful week!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had the opportunity to stay at Meant To Be in Sept 2010. I can't say enough what a wonderful stay we had. The house is exactly as described. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and utensils and everything was clean and well-maintained. The owners were very responsive to any questions or problems that arose and Melissa even greeted us with a welcome call our first night. There were 4 adults and 5 children in our party and the house was plenty big enough to still have quiet time with wine and a book without being disturbed-the first level made a great "kid zone". The porches and captain's watch were great for viewing the ocean but the sunsets off the screened-in porch were spectacular! Being Sept, we were able to turn off the A/C and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and wildlife during the nights and mornings. In fact, we were awakened frequently by the horses in the backyard-quite a shock at 6AM! We did do some exploring in the nearby towns and dined out a couple of times, the drive gets easier every time, though driving the beach at night was quite an adventure-we even had to stop a few times to do some shelling by headlights! We saw lots of wildlife besides the horses-deer, dolphins, horseshoe crabs, a fox, a snake and even a sea turtle. There is really too much to talk about and we can't thank you enough for opening your home to us. Our time spent here was unforgettable.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: Bill and I are native to Bucks County, Pa. We both grew up in the same town, went to the same high school and began dating when we were in college. We count our family and friends among our greatest blessings and love the simple life and being outdoors. We have two dogs who run to the car if they hear the word 'beach'. Like us, they love walking the beach and spending time at Meant To Be.
Why the Owner Chose Carova Beach:
We fell in love with Carova Beach the very first time we vacationed there. Nothing had ever felt so right, so we closed our eyes and purchased a lot after a couple years of vacationing on Carova and the rest was .....Meant To Be! We are blessed to have the opportunity to share our home with others the way someone once opened their door and allowed us to be a guest at their beautiful beach house.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Enjoy an early check-in (2:30) at no extra charge.
Also, enjoy the use of our two seat ocean kayak with your rental.

Carolina's 4x4 shores are hidden treasure:Sometimes the greatest hidden jewels of getaway trips are found almost in your own backyard. Such is the case with Carova on the northernmost Outer Banks of North Carolina. From the end of the road there are 10 miles of pristine beaches until you hit the Virginia line. And finally at about the eight-mile mark is Carova, where our secret fall getaway awaits in a grand house called 'Meant to Be.'Carova, the northeasternmost point of North Carolina, is in Currituck County. If you want miles of unspoiled beaches, wild horses wandering through your yard (or breaking through your fishing lines) then head to the 4x4 beaches. But remember, although there might be several hundred homes scattered along this 10-mile stretch of barrier islands, there is no other sign of civilization. No stores, no restaurants, no hotels, and, of course as previously mentioned, no roads.Make no mistake, however, when we head to 'Meant to Be' we are not roughing it. Rather we are just ratcheting down the hectic pace of life. We load up on groceries so we don't have to go anywhere. 'Meant to Be' has a fully equipped kitchen, a Jacuzzi, big screen TV (with cable), a fireplace and beautiful decks with sweeping views of the ocean. ' I think if our dog could talk he would list the 4x4 beaches as the highlight of his life. If someone wants to take the dogs for a walk on the beach, what a walk it is. The dogs romp in the surf until they can barely walk and then they sleep the big dog sleep all night. An exhausted dog is a beautiful sight.
