A Piece of Heaven

Date of Stay: 07/02/11 Review Submitted: 08/10/11

Our stay at the Swan Cottage was an amazing experience. We had four generations staying and all enjoyed our time there. Scott & Martha were very pleasant and treated our family exceptionally. Our children enjoyed the treasure hunt Martha sent them on. This truly was one of the most relaxing, enjoyable vacations we have ever taken. My 2 year old granddaughter & I spent the mornings together walking in the lake collecting “treasure rocks”. While the property was very rocky, this was caused by a huge storm that blew through the week before our arrival. The property owners worked hard to clean up as much as possible. The rocks actually became a creative outlet for our granddaughters. They colored them for souvenirs to take home. Boat rides, nightly fires, fireworks, playing in the sand, walks along the lake side, game nights with our “neighbors”, hot tub time and spectacular sunsets filled our days. We even picked a mini-series DVD from Martha’s large collection and spent an hour each night watching it on “large screen”. The kids loved it! We will definitely be back again. Thank you Scott & Martha for sharing your bit of Heaven with us.

Not quite as decribed

Stayed here for a week with another family. It was not quite as described..........Difficult for the kids to swim - the bay side was really mucky and the lake side was very rocky......the property itself was very rocky and difficult to navigate in general. A lot of the screens were either holey or missing, and cobwebs littered the corners or all the rooms. The owners have three dogs that visited and defecated on our property frequently and also got into our garbage. It's nice if you're looking for a glorified camp, but it's not much more than that. If you go into town I would definitely recommend Abe's Waterfront. The food was very good and Abe was very accomodating.

Swan Cottage Review

Guest: Laurie (Buffalo, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 09/06/10

We stayed at the Swan cottage owned by Scott and Martha and had a great time. We especially enjoyed the use of the 14ft motor boat for fishing , which was in good working order, and the hot tub on the lake side. It was fantastic listening to the waves at night in the hot tub that was clean and well maintained .During the day sitting in the tub and watching the American Bald Eagles was unbelievable too. The owners were available to help with any requests for the property, and provided a great library of movies to watch at night with a projection system and popcorn. Miss Martha provided the kids with a fun treasure hunt complete with a map and a prize that my son enjoyed.. Being able to bring my Golden Retriever was fun for us and she was exhausted at the end of the week--in a good way! We did not take advantage of the seaplane ride but it did look like fun also. Where else can you go and get a free seaplane ride with your rental? Please note , however, that the property contains drop down stairs to the loft and may not be suitable for older people, or renters with young children .(although there are two bedrooms downstairs for very young kids. The other rentals (The Loon or The Lure) have a spiral staircase or regular stairs if that is a concern to you. We did not use the loft for that reason. Overall the rental was as pictured, if not a bit shabby and the interior will need to be painted soon or scrubbed really well as previous renters were not kind to the walls when they killed bugs/spiders-- that are typical to beach rentals. Some screens needed attention as well. But Scott and Martha are conscientious owners who are trying hard to make a great experience for everyone. The house is on a great piece of property and we came to enjoy the lake, the bay and the fishing. The hot tub, Bald eagles, canoe, kayak, and pedal boats were great extras. The fantastic breezes and sunsets could not be beat. Overall we had an awesome experience and would not hesitate to rent from Scott and Martha again. They were friendly hosts who strived to make your week comfortable and enjoyable.

Relaxing Getaway

Guest: -K- (NJ)
Date of Stay: 06/01/09 Review Submitted: 07/31/09

Absolutely amazing getaway for all ages! My wife and I spent a week at the Swan cottage and loved every minute! From the moment we arrived we were happily greeted by Scott (Owner) at the marina who helped assist us in loading up our luggage onto a boat to be transported out to the cottage. The cottage itself was perfect, very well maintained with all the modern amenities one would need, the front faces the Bay while the back faces the lake. We felt very comfortable from the first moment we arrived, once inside the cottage we found some personal touches provided; such as delicious aged cheese, crackers, popcorn (for those movie nights!) and great tasting wine! It is no stretch of the imagination to say this getaway spot is magical, the cottage deck wraps around the back and side with another deck right outside the master bedrooms. Each morning we would watch the sunrise over the bay and the sunset over the lake at night and what a sight it was! Just imagine sitting in a hot-tub, glass of wine in hand overlooking a majestic sunset, in the final moments of twilight the lighthouse in the distance fades to a beautiful glow! Swans and brilliant white ducks circle the bay edge day and night; a perfect natural addition to the ambience. Outdoor activities we enjoyed the most… Fishing… Fishing... and more Fishing, just traveling around the bay by boat was relaxing soaking up the sun for a nice tan, enjoying the breeze from the lake and of course pulling in lots of bass! The surrounding town offers dinning, craft shops and great local farm stores offering fresh produce, pies and all sorts of nifty things! We will absolutely be returning, we didn’t want to leave!

Sodus Bay is GREAT!!! The views are magnificent, and the sound of the waves lapping the shore just feet from the living room is very relaxing. The sunsets are incredible, and the accomodations are clean. We caught lots of fish and enjoyed the local fruit and cheese.

We rented this cottage for a long weekend in June. It was great ! We can't wait to come back next summer for a whole week. Scott & his wife were wonderful hosts and very helpful. The views of the sun setting on the lake can't be beat. It was the first time for my 10 year old daughter to go fishing and she loved it. Caught alot of fish. Everything in the cottage was very clean and homey. The bottles of wine and hunk of cheese left for us was a great touch. Thanks so much for having us.
