IMPORTANT: St. Augustine Beach is the most desirable beach in all of North Florida. Not all beaches are the same so be sure to ask to see a map before you rent.

Eight bedroom areas (nine if you count the futon in game area), 4.5 baths, two kitchen areas, living area, game area, den, oceanview balcony and deck make The Sand Castle perfect for those large family reunions or friend get-togethers. This family friendly beach house has six conventional bedrooms (3 kings, 2 queens, a twin bedroom), studio and den bedroom areas (sofa beds and privacy doors), a sofa bed in living room, large single sofa and double futon with superior mattress in game area.
The Sand Castle also has the best ocean access in St. Augustine Beach. St. Augustine Beach is very wide with beautiful, wide drifts of soft, white sand so the town built a handful of wooden walkways that extend over the softest sand to make it easier to reach the ocean. The Sand Castle has dual access from both the front and back sides of the house. You can either walk across the sand from one side of the house or use the walkover to get to the water from the other side, giving the Sand Castle the absolute best ocean access.
Surfboard, kayak and bicycle rental 25 steps away! There are numerous restaurants within a block of the house including an outdoor one with a pool for the use of its customers. Have a drink and watch the kids swim! Only blocks from the pier, volleyball and tennis courts and 10 minutes from the Historic District. This location can't be beat. This is old Florida at its best and you will love it!
First Floor: The unique design of The Sand Castle offers a ground floor with no steps/stairs (perfect for elderly or multi families) which consists of a studio bedroom (with sleeper sofa), an oversized king bedroom, bathroom and garage/game area. This part of the house has its own entrance and can be closed or opened into the rest of the house. The studio is equipped with small dining/kitchen area (stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, etc.), a sleeper sofa, TV and DVD player. Designed with a privacy door, the studio can be used as a sitting room or separate bedroom. The oversized king bedroom also has a large sofa suitable for sleeping. There is a full bathroom (no tub which is difficult for elderly to step over). Access to the bathroom is via the king bedroom or garage/game area.
The garage/game area is carpeted, heated and air conditioned. It has a game table, TV and double bed futon with superior mattress. A privacy screen is provided for those guests that choose to sleep there. The second floor and remaining living area is accessed by a door from the garage/game area. The second floor can also be accessed from outside via a private entrance.
Second Floor: The second floor living area is comprised of an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The fully equipped kitchen includes, microwave, stove, blender, refrigerator, coffeemaker, etc. The dining table has additional leaves and seating if needed. There is a half bath located off the living area as well as a washer and dryer. The living area includes a TV, DVD player and large L-shaped sofa with sleeper. Through an adjoining door is the den bedroom (with sleeper sofa), TV and DVD player. This room has a privacy door and can be used as a sitting room or as another bedroom. (Due to furniture/remodeling delay, den cannot be used as bedroom until January 2010). A full bath with shower/tub adjoins the den. The king bedroom is accessed from the den and includes king bed, TV and ocean view. The ocean view balcony is also accessed from the den.
Third Floor: The third floor has four bedrooms, two full bathrooms and the ocean view deck. Bedroom one has a king bed and beautiful ocean view. Bedrooms two and three have queen beds (one with ocean view) and bedroom 4 has twin beds. Hear the ocean roar (and sometimes music) from the ocean view deck.
Parking/Other Amenities: Because The Sand Castle can also be accessed by the back alley, parking is available on both sides of the house and can accommodate up to 7 vehicles. There are also entrances on both sides of the building. We provide all linen including beach towels as well as beach chairs, beach umbrellas and beach toys for the children. There is also an outdoor shower and barbeque grill for the use of our guests.
This is a great beach house in a great location!
Ten minutes from historic downtown St. Augustine, it is the perfect Florida vacation location. Restaurants, entertainment within 2 blocks (see our website). 30 minutes to World Golf Village, 45 minutes to Daytona and just 90 minutes to Disney World!

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We bought The Sand Castle due to its location by the pedestrian beach which is much safer for children. Most of St, Augustine Beach is a driving beach except the few blocks which forbids vehicles. The beach is beautiful and wide, with white sand like powder. We also like its proximity to restaurants, surboard and bicycle rental which are within a block of the house.

It can accommodate up to 21 guests while at the same time provides addional spaces for privacy. Located in the heart of St. Augustine Beach, it is only 10 minutes from the Historic District and other tourist spots.

The Sand Castle is owned by the Lewis family. Third generation Florida natives, we have loved the St. Augustine area for many years and chose to buy a beach house there in 2006. Our extended family often travels together staying in vacation rentals and we chose this house and outfitted it with all the amenities a large family or group of friends will need.

Our golf group of 8 men have been coming to St. Augustine for the last 13 years. I have been in charge of accommodations most of that time and we have stayed in everything from motels to multiple condos at World Golf Village and Crescent Beach as well as several different beach houses in St. Augustine. I would try to improve on the quality of the week long vacation every year. In 2008 we stayed in this beach house for the first time and decided that this was the perfect place for us. We came back in 2009 and have it reserved for 2010 as well. We all have or own bed (without using the sofa beds) and there are plenty of bathrooms for all of us to shower and get ready for our early morning tee times. The kitchen is fully eqipped to handle fixing dinner if we decide to eat in or there are many good restaurants within a couple blocks of the house. There is also plenty of common space for everyone to hang out without feeling cramped. Every year I would get suggestions from the guys on what to do differently the next year and for the last two years it has been "don't change anything". The cost is less than staying in a motel (for the 8 of us) and the facility is very clean and well taken care of. Paulette is very responsive to any questions or concerns we may have and she does everything she can to make our annual trip very enjoyable.

Our family, of seventeen, spent Christmas at the Sandcastle. We really enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for us because of the spaciousness, each person had a comfortable place to sleep. We especially appreciated the four and one half bathrooms. The close proximity to the beach was great for the grandchildren, they enjoyed it tremendously. I appreciated the attention given by the owners. We had a plumbling problem and it was immediately taken care of in an efficient manner. We would recommend this property to anyone. It is especially well suited for large groups.

We stayed at the house for a week in August. First of all the way the house is decorated is fantastic you feel like you are at a beach house. You are a stones throw from the beach and the beach is gorgeous. We were there with 4 families with children, 2 grand mothers and my sister too, and we had plenty of room each family had a floor, and we shared the third floor with one of the families with a small child. Everything worked out well. We enjoyed the stay and will stay there again.....if we are welcome :) As for stuff to do, a surf shop that rents everything is on the corner, food is all over the place and my favorite supermarket (Publix, I live in North Carolina and we do not have them) is a mile and half away. Thanks for an unforgettable vacation!

From the first view of the house to the final closing of the balcony door, our stay at The Sandcastle was THE BEST! The owners, who are just lovely to work with, have done a fantastic job of making this beach rental your home away from home. All the basics you'll need for a great vacation experience are provided for you. The place is huge, yet wonderfully cozy, and offers privacy and togetherness in equal amounts (not an easy feat to achieve). 12 of us stayed for a week and never once felt crowded (the oceanview balconies are a haven). Speaking of the ocean, The Sandcastle is only a few dozen steps away from the gorgeous white-sand beach! We found some great shells, enjoyed watching the surfers, and had a blast with all the beach toys that are provided for guests (chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels are provided as well). As for The Sandcastle's proximity to the surrounding area, it's close to everything St. Augustine has to offer. Historic St. Augustine is a 15-minute drive away. Marineland's dolphins frolic a 20-minute drive down the pretty coast. There are excellent restaurants mere steps away (Mango Mangos and Beahcombers are must go's!). Other excellent restaurants are just minutes away by car (Salt Water Cowboys and Sunset Grille are other must-eat-there's!). Despite it being in a bustling neighborhood, The Sandcastle is a quiet retreat that offers more than most, all at a great value. I'll be recommending it to everyone I know!

This was my first experience with VRBO/Homeaway and what a great place to start! This house is everything it promises to be. Our large, extended family met for a family reunion and there was more than enough room for us to spread out. The location is truly perfect, a few short steps to the beach, a few steps in the other direction to some great restaurants. Just a short drive to all the St. Augustine attractions. Everything we needed was provided and easy to find. The house was immaculate, comfortable, safe for kids and fun for everyone! Thank you for sharing it with us!

"Our" family beach house in St. Augustine is a family tradition. We combine several families and always have enough room. We used to rent several condos with a much longer trek to the beach going through gates and fiddling with keys. Now we are all together and 15 steps from the beach. "Our" house is also much better equipped than anything we have ever rented. We love it!

The beach house is in a fantastic location with many sleeping areas and bedrooms. I chose this for my family reunion because of the ability to sleep so many people and the location so close to the beach. We had a family reunion and slept six different families in the house with plenty of space for everyone. The house is outside the downtown tourist area yet close to everything. The location is great...peaceful, well maintained and family friendly.

The beach house was the perfect fit for our family of sons and spouses, daughters and spouses, and lots of young grandchildren. Space enough to give each family some privacy (i.e. peace and quiet) and open enough to allow a lot of "clan time". It's proximity to the beach, and of course the many "touristy" attractions allow a high level of activity. A perfect spot for our annual family get-together!

We loved the location, easy access to the beach but still private. The house was clean and bright and had so many great spaces. With 4 families we still had plenty of room, plenty of bathrooms and the 2 kitchens were great. We loved spending mornings and evenings on the decks, playing games on the main floor and then in the game room after the kids went to sleep. We didn't even use any of the sleeper sofas but may invite more people on our next trip. We look forward to renting it again.
