Still Magic, an "in-town" private residence situated 4200 feet above sea level atop Little Bear Pen Mountain in Highlands, North Carolina. The newly renovated home has five bedrooms, three baths, sleeping ten to twelve.

Downtown Main street is less than one mile away and within walking distance including access to the Kelsey Trail.

Highlands Fitness Center is 1/2 mile away offering short term memberships, see details below.

The old Highlands charm is maintained throughout the home with furnishings, original heart pine walls, ceilings, floors and a stone wood burning fireplace.

Enjoy year round mountain views from inside or while relaxing on the expansive 82 foot deck. The home sits among walls of rhododendrons, a canopy of oaks and a front native stone wall. The house has been completely updated with a fully equipped kitchen including high end stainless steel appliances: double convection ovens, convection microwave, two dishwashers and two refrigerators both with ice makers.

The antique oak banquet table seats twelve. There are three additional tables to allow an indoor sit down dinner for 25. The cupboards boast multiple complete sets of china and silverware.

The spacious living room has a grand piano which adds to the ambiance of the wood-burning-native stone fireplace. The five bedroom sleeping arrangements are: one king-size; two bedrooms each with a queen-size; one bedroom with a full-size and one bedroom with two twin-size beds.

The glass enclosed porch has a futon and a free standing gas log fireplace, surrounded by four rockers to relax in while enjoying the long range views out the five sets of French doors and windows.

The home has a split zone central heat and air, cable TV/HBO, DVD/VHS/CD (300 plus movie library), Personal Computer furnished with wireless high speed internet, All-in-One printer/fax/scanner, four burner propane grill with side burner, washer and dryer, local phone, linens, unusual wet bar made from a wood stove and whiskey still, and a two vehicle carport.

  • Mountain View: House is higher than the city of Highlands at 4200 ft and has breathtaking long range views including Shortoff Mountain, Yellow Mountain and in the fall through spring views of Whiteside Mountain
• Communications
  • Telephone: 5 phones located in the house and long distance is .05 cents per minute or we can work out a plan or calling card. There is an answering machine. Our guests have had good luck with their cell phones working.
  • Computer: One of the rare locations in Highlands that offers broadband. We provide a wireless laptop that can be used throughout most of the house and on the deck
  • Broadband Internet: Yes and you will find few homes in this mountain area offer this service
  • WiFi (Wireless Internet): Depends on your system but my work computer and several friends have had no issues hooking their laptops up to our wireless system

  • Pet Friendly: Must be discussed prior to confirming reservation
  • Handicapped Accessible (may have limitations): 3 steps from carport into the house, 3 bedrooms are on same level and 2 bedrooms are 2 steps down. Master bath has hand rails in tub.
  • Wheelchair Accessible (may have limitations): as only 3 steps into the house and a wide area/door for entrance off the carport we would consider building a ramp if needed for a long term rental

  • "Still Magic" has everything you need for the perfect vacation. The view is beautiful and the porch to sit and enjoy the cool air is fabulous. The house is close to town yet still in a cozy secluded neighborhood. There is so much to do around Highlands but when you want to be home and relaxed there are plenty of movies, games, etc. to keep you entertained right at home, while someone makes a gourmet meal in the very equipped kitchen!   • We had a great family vacation at Still Magic. From our 87 year old great grandmother to the newest grandchild every member of the family felt at home. We loved the way the house is set up so that while we were all together, we had separate space for conversation and family activities like games and puzzles. Our son, the gourmet cook, was impressed by the kitchen. Eating lunch on the porch and looking out over the mountains was a special delight.   • The house was perfect and thank you for the home made goodies. We come to Highlands often but find most places roads are to steep or busy to take our daily walks. Little Bear Pen Mountain was great for that and we needed those walks after eating all those goods. We will be back.

  • What a wonderful 2 weeks. The rhodo's were beautiful and what a great area to walk and enjoy the views without ever having to get in the car. The hike to town was breathtaking. The kids loved having a yard to romp in and having the separate nanney suite for the teens was more relaxing for all of us! I just wish my kitchen at home had 2 dishwashers and was so well stocked. We will be back again.
