Why the Owner Chose Burnsville

This is a family home that we purchased from my parents and has been in the family for over 35 years. There are seven children in our family and my parents needed a place to escape the Florida heat and a place to bring us for vacations and they fell in love with this house and Burnsville. They remodeled the home but kept most of the original structure and bought ten acres to go with the property. We visit the house as much as possible and always look forward to our trip to NC.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The clean fresh air and clear nights full of stars has to be the favorite thing we love about Burnsville. The town square is so quaint and so much arts and crafts to enjoy. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a half hour drive and anytime of year the sights are breathtaking. We just enjoy driving to new areas and enjoy the sights and rocking on the front porch.

I am sitting on the front porch of the happy apple retreat. We've been here over two weeks already and we love it. The house is perfect for a small family. Just as described. The pictures show the property well. Very comfortable, clean, cosy and roomy. We felt right at home right away. Karen is also very responsive if you have questions. Staying here offers tranquility, simplicity and beauty. It's close to Burnsville for shopping, and to other attractions as well. The little valley offers nice walks, astounding views, and friendly neighbors (one brought by fresh vegetables). Down at the end of the road is a creek. A small trek to the right leads to a bend in the road where there is a trail that offers access to a nice swimming hole. Our son loved swimming with the trout. One day we had an interesting visit in the yard from a black (harmless) snake. We have loved staying here and look forward to coming back again.

Owner response:We are thrilled you are enjoying your summer vacation and planning a return trip! We look forward to your return!

An awesome little farmhouse

My wife & I stayed at the Happy Apple Retreat from Christmas Eve 2010 until New Year's Day 2011 and had a wonderful time. What an incredible winter wonderland. It snowed almost 10 inches over Christmas Day and Sunday. The neighbors there are wonderful if you venture out. If you walk up the hill the views of the Black mountains are breathtaking. It is truly a home away from home and has everything anyone could ever want in the kitchen. We will be returning to NC sometime in the summer of 2011 and hopefully the "awesome little farmhouse" will be available again.

A Little Piece of Heaven

Our family stayed at the Happy Apple this past May 2010 and we'll be back every year! The house has been updated very nicely and it felt like home the moment we walked in. It's a spacious home with lots of charm -- gingham curtains/quilts, etc., yet felt like a cottage despite the fact that there's a modern kitchen with everything you'd need -- and cable TV! for the kids along with a DVD player. The land is beautiful and sits in a peaceful valley with views of the mountains all around you. We've seen wild turkeys and deer with their babies. At night you can spread out a blanket, lay back and count the stars and constillations while enjoying s'mores. We let the kids collect all the lightening bugs they could find -- the mountain across the street is aglow with them and it looks like a Christmas tree. It's close to town for groceries and shopping. Some great little boutique shops...everything from toys to consignment to high end clothing and shoes. There's a couple of nice casual restaurants too. Also, we took time to visit Asheville, Linville Falls and Penland. All within a hour's drive or less. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a fun drive too. What a great time. Having a comfortable place to stay is key to having a great time in the mountains and we finally found 'the one'.

Owner response:We are so glad you enjoyed yourself at our mountain retreat. We look forward to you staying again and hope you continue to enjoy all there is offer in the area. Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us! It is very much appreciated.

Best location in NC!

My family and I stayed at the Happy Apple in October, 2009 and it was the best vacation week we ever had! First of all, the house is so cozy and clean and, well, comfortable. It is not a "cabin" but a farmhouse that is over 100 years old and just gorgeous with the old pine and oak flooring and all the antiques. The 10 acre property is amazing. You can watch deer, wild turkeys, squirrles, rabbits and other animals almost every day. It's fun to go for a walk up behind the house to see what animals your can spot and enjoy the marvelous view looking down over the house and sprawling valley it's located in. You can also go across the street, over the private brook and up that mountain side for some more spectacular views. Another great walk is the Bee Branch Road to the top of the hill. Tiring but very rewarding! The nearby town of Burnsville is just great with cool shops, great restaurants, lots of crafts and a traditional town square that always has something going on! The large Ingles Supermarket in town is awesome with a huge selection. (Just make sure you sign up for your Ingles card for some serious discounts!) If you like the outdoors like my family does, there are tons of great hikes nearby. One of our favorites is only a couple miles from the home, called Ray Mine Road. You can go for a walk along the creeks and find lots of semi-precious stones. Whitewater rafting is nearby. Horseback riding is available close by for a beautiful ride. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a beautiful 30 minute drive. We just loved Ashevill with it's great restaurants, shops, and kind of a hippie college atmosphere. Don't miss the Biltmore Estates; it's incredible!! Go early or during the week if possible and for those wine enthusiasts, don't miss the Winery! All in all, a great stay at a great little home with convenient access to the most beautiful parts of North Carolina! The only bad part was leaving but we will be back!

Owner response:Thank you! We try to make our family home as enjoyable for our guest as it is for us! We are so glad you had such a memorable experience. And thank you for reminding people to get the Ingles card as there are some significant savings is shop there. I think we keep on tacked to the bulletin board for our guest to use and will be sure to leave one.
