Our house looks like a Horton Foote film, where life was lived in an interesting
Location: Windham, Catskills, New York, USA (We are near skiing, creeks, hikes, and beautiful valleys)
Accommodations: Country house / chateau, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)
Keywords: Country House
We fell in love with this small, charming upstate hamlet 20 years ago. For a year, four of us looked for land outside New York City, wandering through all the counties looking for the elusive magic of a country home. We found those qualities in a tiny town of Cornwallville, in the Durham valley. We bought a house that is even more than we'd hoped.
When the house next door became free, we bought that too. Our rental house was a parsonage once. It's strong and practical, and we filled it with books and dishes and quickly made it a home. It's a perfect place for a weekend, a week, a summer.

My family had a great time renting this beautiful home for our winter ski season. The area was beautiful and serene, so different to the fast pace life we currently lead. Ski mountains are close by and my children had a great time playing on the huge grounds of the property. The house was well equipped and everything in working condition. It was clean and stocked with plenty of linens. We had excellent communication with the owners who were such nice people....we all will miss your hosptality and kindness. Thanks Esther. Highly recommend AAA+++.

I really enjoyed our stay. The location is bucolic, the house is a classic of the kind I thought lost to history, and the people I met were enlightened and sociable. It was a great escape from the city.

I have several times had occasion to stay in "the Latarte House" and have always been amazed by what a comfortable, cozy experience it's been. Of course the Catskills are what they are -- wonderful -- no matter where you stay, but this space offers all you could ask as a headquarters for your exploration of the area. Its beds are comfortable and its plumbing fine, its kitchen well equipped and its living rooms perfectly welcoming. The great thing about the house is how embracing it seems; as soon as you enter (the back door) you feel yourself in YOUR OWN space, the space that you may have lived in as a kid, but certainly the one you SHOULD have lived in. It is very well set up; all linens clean, all floors swept, and so on. The charms are harder to pinpoint, but I assure you, they dominate. The landlords are charming, helpful people who know how to let the experience be yours, without unwelcome intrusions... I heartily recommend it to all.

Thirty acres of land and a home that reminded me of - home. We have rented from many people, and this is the first time I felt like I was supposed to be there. I have not met such accommodating people before when vacationing. Although we were not on vacation - we were shooting a music video on the property, because it's simply amazing - it felt like we were revisiting the good old days when television, computers and iPhones weren't occupying most of our days. We could take in the fresh air, think about what matters clearly, and get our exercise just by walking on the property. The interior was great, too - it felt like we were a part of history. Our kids keep asking us when we're going back. Thank you, Esther, for your hospitality and inspirational work. -salina sias and matt mailer
