My family of 4 adults stayed here in July and it was all we expected and more. Centrally located minutes from Governor's Harbour, this classic stone cottage sits right on the water's edge offering wondering views of the bay. The owners have thought of everything - there's extra beach hats in case you didn't bring one, maps, books, and every utensil needed for cooking (we did some of our own) and drinks. Bedrooms are a good size and the layout doesn't feel cramped despite being a true "cottage." The character of this home won me over when making a reservation and I wasn't disappointed. Bugs are to be expected as with anywhere - so bring DEET - and use it regularly. Can't wait to return to the Hummingbird!

This charming beachfront house was a wonderful home for a relaxing winter vacation. It was stocked with everything one could possibly need, and the owners (who vacation on the adjoining property and happened to be there at the time) went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We were there with our 19-month-old son, and it was great to be so close to the beach so we could all just walk out the screen door and down to the water without any hassle. The shells on the beach out back are so varied and fascinating! The garden in front is also gorgeous and we enjoyed looking for lizards. The pack-n-play at the house was a wonderful bonus too. The only two things we can complain about are 1) the bugs. Definitely bring bug spray and use it liberally. Some people (like my wife) are more sensitive than others and the bites can be very itchy. But this apparently is a problem everywhere in the Bahamas (except in Nassau where they spray). And 2) the wall separating the second bedroom from the living room doesn't go all the way up to the high ceiling, so we were very hesitant to use the TV and DVD player when our son was asleep. There is a small TV in the master bedroom but the satellite dish system annoyingly requires the channel to be changed in the living room. Eleuthera, especially staying at this house, was a fantastic vacation destination for us. There aren't many real sightseeing destinations on the island, so we had no choice but to relax, go to some of the many gorgeous beaches, and hang out on the patio at the house. We would definitely recommend this house and Eleuthera as a whole!

This beach house has everything and more that you need for the holiday of a lifetime. We could not fault it and it was far better than we had hoped for. The weather was perfect and only added to the experience. It was so relaxing, the Island is very welcoming and the people very friendly. Although it was out of season this did not deter from our enjoyment of the holiday and we will certainly go again.

My family and I stayed in this home for 8 days at the end of August. It is an extremely well stocked house that is very "homey," and reminded us of visiting an aunt or grandmother's home. Marian has done a fabulous job making sure that anything that could be needed can, infact, be found with just a bit of searching. She has done a very good job of labeling everything and placing instructions/directions all through out the home. We never had to wonder about anything, it was all layed out somewhere! I do have three small children, 8 months, 3 and 5 years, and there were some things I wish I'd have known before visiting this home. The first is that the two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the home and it was difficult and worrisome for me trying to hear them at night. Bring a baby monitor! Also, only the bedrooms are air conditioned. It was a very good thing there were no neighbors around because it was too hot to wear much of anything unless we were sleeping! The bugs were awful! I brought both natural bug sprays and OFF!, neither of which particularly worked, so enjoying the hammock was difficult. The bugs also get in the house through cracks between the screens and the doors, so we got bit even in the house and when we were sleeping. The house is situated on a truly beautiful lot with much to look at. All the flowers, trees and plants were amazing! The beach was right out the back door and our kids loved playing and shelling there. My husband enjoyed snorkeling, and even I took a stab at it! The island itself is amazingly beautiful. However, groceries are incredibly expensive (2-4 times the cost in the US), and we were hard pressed to find anywhere to shop for souveniers. We did enjoy searching out the eleusive beaches (we found a favorite on the Atlantic side), and traveling to Harbour Island (take your suits, the beaches there are amazing!), and we enjoyed eating at Papa George's Pizza south of Governor's Harbor in maybe Palmetto Point? George was so friendly and told us many stories about Eleuthera and its past. We also found a nice place to find ice cream novelties in Gregory Town, where the few women working were very friendly and chated with our family for a long time. Some Bahamians are friendly, some aren't. Overall, we had a fun, very relaxed time on our vacation. Obviously, it would have been much more relaxing without the three little ones! But what are family vacations for, if not for spending time with your FAMILY?

My husband and I stayed here for 7 days. This home was wonderful! The water was clearer then the pictures show it to be,it was as warm as a bathtub. The home was clean and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful with all the gardens and that beach.... We saw a few sharks but I guess that is part of swimming in the ocean. There were a lot of shells to collect on the beach. The fishing didn't turn out to be as good as we expected we now know that a boat would be needed to catch anything big.
