Better yet, hire a local personal chef to cater to your every whim. Either way, the 6-burner Wolfe gas stove, custom bar and informal dining area will leave you feeling full of peace and joy.

Fall in love with historic Hawi town and all it has to offer; art, dining, galleries, gift shops and a coffee house, all a short walk from the home. This unique spot is the heart of North Kohala and it is unspoiled by excessive tourism, traffic, and VOG (volcanic pollution). Maui's Haleakala volcano can be seen across the Alenuihaha channel as you are delighted by the scent of tropical flora. The town is located at 500 feet of elevation and cooled by the trade winds. Just half of a mile from the ocean, the climate is rarely too hot or humid.

Why the Owner Chose Hawi

The area is not only beautiful and off the beaten path, but the people are really nice. Everywhere you go folks are full of Aloha. The ocean is pristine and the mountains are accessible. The ethnic diversity of Hawaii is showcased in this small eclectic community where locals intermingle with newcomers and visitors. North Kohala is a laid back community, yet filled with positive energy. We are moving towards self sustainable living in a place where we respect the local heritage, the land, and our diversity.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The house is amazing! I have heard guests scream with delight upon entering. It is difficult to capture the splendor of the house in pictures. There are 2.2 acres of grounds, a greenhouse, gym, pool, and tennis court. The house has two separate screened-in lanais and no bedroom has a common wall. There is plenty of space here to create alone time.

From Hawi you can go ten minutes west to dry heat and swimming, fifteen minutes east to lush tropical jungle and the wild Pololu Valley, twenty minutes south to the summit views from the cool Kohala Mountain top or you can walk into Hawi town and enjoy a cup of coffee with the locals then get a massage or shop for locally made treasures in our artist filled community. All the major resorts of the Kohala Coast are a short drive south and our local state parks for swimming and snorkeling are less than 10 minutes away.

Owner's Map of Hawi

We purchased this home in 1998 for future retirement and because the area was so beautiful. Over the next two years we renovated every square inch adding top of the line appliances and furnishings, We visited from San Francisco frequently but after every trip it became increasingly more difficult to leave our Hawaii paradise. In 2003 we sold our house in Mill Valley and moved to Hawi where our second son was born in the upstairs master. As my children have grown older and I have begun to travel it made sense to allow others to enjoy the house as a vacation destination. No one has been disappointed. Much Aloha Jim

Hawi Plantation House

Amazing Vacation Home!

We rented this property the week after our wedding and stayed there with 14 of our closest friends. The house and grounds were simply stunning, and we spent many a day cooking and eating fabulous meals, relaxing in the huge living room, and lounging by the pool. All the guests absolutely loved their rooms, and the cottage was a perfect honeymoon suite for me and my new bride. Only 25 minutes from some spectacular beaches (Mauna Kea and Hapuna) and right in the middle of the quaint town of Hawi. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! Thank you, Jim, for sharing your wonderful home with us!

My family and I stayed in your gorgeous Hawi home in July. This was the first time our families had met, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting for such an important occasion! Your beautiful home and it's lovely amenities provided everyone with a comfortable, fun atmosphere in which to become acquainted. More than anything, we appreciate the trust you placed in us as strangers to care for your home! Thank you very much for your generosity.
