Our stay at Casa Sandcastle on April 12, 2013 My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Sandcastle before with family and decided to return, just the two of us for a romantic getaway. The home is so peaceful and serene we do not feel compelled to leave the immediate area to have a wonderful relaxing week of vacation. Casa Sandcastle has changed character since we stayed there last, but for the better. Mary and Gary, the owners, owned both Casa Romantica, the adjoining home and sometimes rented both out to larger groups for weddings, family reunions etc. They have sold the Casa Romantica home and have created a beautiful, intimate, peaceful atmosphere at Sandcastle. We enjoyed the new private steps to the beach and the new patio, "La Cava",which is located just above the surfline, midway down the steps. The sunsets and the energy you feel from the sea while relaxing at this new venue is amazing. Casa Sandcastle still has its panoramic ocean and white water views from every room, and the coastal lights by night. The master now has a king sized bed, along with many new upgrades throughout the home to make it more comfortable for smaller groups. We spent a marvenous day in the wine country about 45 minutes away, the farthest distance traveled. Had dinner at La Fonda, Splash, Poco Cello and Brunch at Rubins palm grill...had lobster at the famous Puerto Nuevo village all within a 10 mile drive. The roads are safe and the uniformed Guards at the security gate are most helpful to call a cab or help you with any question or tourist info. Highly recomended for romantic getaway, 6 or 8 person retreats or small family vacations. Mike PattersonRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

I went to Casa Sandcastle with a couple of friends to do some surfing and we really enjoyed the home with all of the beautiful views from everywhere in the home. The location is great and has a lot to do in the area. The beach has private steps to it and has a break in front of the home and several other breaks just walking distance down the beach. It is located next to the sand dunes for ATV riding and I even saw a guy on a hang glider/parichute, way cool!! There are lots of restaurants and small grocery stores, medical, pharmacys in the town cantamar a few minutes away. We went to a lobster village with 30 restaurants about 5 minutes away, then to rosarito a bigger town with every kind of shopping, dining and bars. One day we went to the valley of Guadalupe for wine tasting and had a blast. We all wondered before we went if we would be bored and if we would be safe and I honestly can say, we never got all of the activities done that we wanted to do and we felt safer here than anywhere on earth. I would recomend casa Sandcastle to anyone who wants either a relaxing vacation or a very active one!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thankyou for the review. Sandcastle is a favorite spot for surfers, just walk out of the home, down the private steps and right into the waves!! How easy is that?

Owner response: Welcome back Mike!! I am glad to hear that you liked our new improvements. We wanted Sandcastle to be more of a romantic retreat and you make it sound like we succeded. The day you left, I was down at the new landing and saw a momma and baby whale swim right by, very close to shore, heading back north for the spring. It was such a spiritual sight that I have renamed "La Cava" Whale Watch Landing".

"I have stayed @ Casa Sandcastle many times. It is a wonderful place to lay back and relax. You really feel the romance of Mexico here. My family just loves it!! There are steps to a sandy beach, many nice restaurants nearby, and I always go to the Valle de Guadalupe while I am here to enjoy the scenery of the rolling hills & valleys..and taste the new wines as they are made each year. This year was special..as I see that all of the roads from the US have been made new! The toll road or the FREE road...such a delight to drive..not a lot of traffic either.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We allways enjoy our repeat visitors, and love to hear some of the activities they have discovered. Yes the roads and the new border crossing is so easy, totally bypasses Tijuana, and it is tollway all the way to the home about 45 minutes of beautiful ocean front driving. I am pleased that you liked all of the new upgrades we have made to Sandcastle since you were there last!

My wife and I don't know what to praise first--the setting, the owner Mary, the security of Mission Viejo, the serenity of our stay or the house itself. First just an easy walk down some steps to an amazing beach that we almost had to ourselves. then the most amazing sunsets from the backyard of Sandcastle. We were so impressed with the security at Mission Viejo, you feel completely safe and secure and all the guards were very helpful. The home itself is very comfortable, with magnificent views from the master bedroom, living room and dining room. Mary could not have been better or more helpful from our first contact to our last. She is a wealth of information from shopping to restaurants. Most of all we left Rosarito relaxed and refreshed after four wonderful nights in Sandcastle. Most importantly, for us, Sandcastle is dog friendly!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Mary and Gary, Thank you!!!!! The house was absolutely beautiful and spacious. We went with a large group and the house was big enough for the sometimes needed privacy when vacationing with a big group. The view was breathtaking. There was a group of dalphines that seemed to play throughout the day in front of the property. (This was everyday of our trip, and we were able to take some awsome pitures.) My family and I had the trip of our lives and are planning on making this a twice a year trip because we enjoyed ourselves so much at your home. My son who normally wants to return home on our first day of vacation, cried when we had to leave and is already asking to go back. I'm always a worried mother and felt completely safe. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay at your home and I will be recommending your home to my family, friends and co-workers. I recommend this home to any family who works hard and looks forward to those family vacations that are just so hard to come by. There is no way anyone can be disappointed staying here. The memories that this vacation created are going to be truly charished by my entire family. PattiRecommended for: Families with young children.

Family reunion in beautiful Mexico

Our three families planned for an overdue family reunion in Mexico with dining, sightseeing and the ocean in mind. We picked this beautiful property right on the ocean and nestled within a beautifully maintained and guarded community. We were treated to beautiful panoramic sunsets, beachcombing for shells and, just down the road, the sleepy village of Puerto Nuevo where lobster is the speciality and all the imaginable handmade curios of Mexico are avaialable for your shopping pleasure. Seriously, who needs a cruise ship when you have it all in one great place! Everyone felt safe at all times and enjoyed seeing sights not seen in our home town and on one occassion we went shopping for truly different gifts at the town of Ensenada a short drive down the well maintained highway. We did see security at one toll booth and just like in the states felt the local authorities were on the job. The photos of the estate were accuate and the owners were very helpful in planning our stay to maximize our vacation, even directing us to local vineyards for a day of wine tasting. The property was immaculate, the architecture amazing and all of us would highly recommend it and we plan a return visit next year. If your looking for something safe, secure, reasonable and able to make you relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of a beach resort, or head out for a day of adventure, this is the place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Dolphins in the surf at your front door, the best lobster you've tasted in your life just down the road in a sleepy little pueblo call Puerto Nuevo and all within a short drive of the border. Weather to die for, mid 70's during the day and cool nites made sitting in the Adirondack chairs facing the beach delightful anytime night or day. Short trip brings you to wine tasting surrounded by vineyards and good food, or take the turn to the right and visit the enchanting town of Ensenada where cruise ships stop and the Baja 500 begins. Had a marvelous time. Would not recommend it to people who can't relax and enjoy life. MikeRecommended for: Families with teenagers.
