Beautiful Craftsman on Lighthouse Field and Steamers Lane
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Wheel chair accessible:No
In my opinion this is the best house on the West Side of Santa Cruz! Our family home is not your typical vacation rental! We are located on the beautiful Lighthouse Field, which has lush spring grasses, colorful wildflowers, and Monarch butterflies which flutter by in the summer. The field has many winding walking paths to the ocean, lighthouse, and Steamers Lane (a famous surf break). We have unobstructed views from the house, across the field, to the ocean.
Our house is a quality Craftsman classic style home that has over 2700 square feet, and is a Thatcher and Thompson design, which is a renowned architectural firm in Santa Cruz. This is a solidly built luxury beach house, with custom wood windows, all hardwood floors, solid wood interior doors (for sound proofing), and a covered deck for ocean viewing. This family home is tastefully designed, with quality European style furnishings, fine linens, very comfortable mattresses, and fabulous oriental carpets and eclectic artwork. There are three bedrooms with adjoining baths, and two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath between them (for a couple and a child).
When you wake in the morning you can gaze at the ocean, or sit on the cushioned teak bench and chair and feel the sun warm your face. Take a walk, bike, or run on the West Cliff path which is two miles long, or continue on the path to Wilder State Park (another two miles), where there are many secluded beach coves. Perhaps you would like to walk to It's Beach, which is across Lighthouse field, to sun bathe, boogie board, or swim. As the sun sets, you can watch the moon rise from the front deck, hear the peaceful distant barking of the sea lions, and the rumble of the ocean waves.
It is only a stroll to the Boardwalk (an amusement park with rides) and pier where there are delicious seafood restaurants. We are also only one mile from the downtown where you can often hear street musicians playing, see balloon clowns make their wares, check out the book stores, look through the designer clothing stores, eat at the many choices of restaurants, go to the cinema (there are four to choice from), or just people watch.
A variety of amenities, including two mountain bikes, a jogging stroller, boogie boards, surfboards, a kid's wagon and a gas barbecue are all provided for your enjoyment!

Our family, adults and kids enjoyed this beautiful home. We have a 2 year old grandson so having a high chair was nice. The 4 bathrooms was a huge plus. Everything about this house is great; location, size, views, all around comfort.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a fantastic time at this beautiful and comfortable rental. 4 familes with their kids stayed here and each family had their own room and bathroom (a huge plus). The views were phenomenol and it was walking distance to the beach. Plus there is a backyard so it was perfect for grilling and having the kids play outside. I would highly recommend this place. It was one of the best rental houses that we have stayed at and we tend to do getaway weekends with friends once a year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My friends and family had a wonderful stay at this home. The location was terrific for our needs - a walk across the park to see the surfers and get down to the beach. The five rooms were very comfy and the sound isolation was great - everyone had a really good night sleep. Each room had access to a bathroom which made for five isolated experiences and then a great shared group experience in the common rooms.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

O'Neill has rented the Pelton property for the past three years in conjunction with the O'Neill Cold Water Classic surf event. The house is absolutely perfect for our needs. Huge kitchen, five large bedrooms, well kept and clean. With an ocean view and within walking distance to Steamer Lane, the location is ideal. The property owners are extremely communicative and have treated our group well, which is the reason we continue to utilize the property year after year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children.

While the location was convenient, the house was on a very small lot with little privacy. Before visit the owners were responsive, however it took many requests to finalize the Rental Agreement. Recommend extreme caution with communications with owners. These communication difficulties took away from the overall quality of the stay. Will not stay again.Recommended for: Pet owners.

We loved the house. It fit our needs perfectly as we had a family reunion for our son's graduation from UC Santa Cruz. All contact with the owners was pleasant and professional. The house was very clean when we arrived with easy instructions for settling in and the ground were beautifully landscaped with an especially nice backyard. The location is superb on a quiet street with an ocean view set back from the pedestrian friendly and busy West Cliff Drive by a large field. We would recommend the house to anyone.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Wonderfully decorated home... nothing like a rental house. Beautifully constructed, and cozy with plenty of room for the 10 of us. The weather in early November was warm and clear. Perfect location ~ close to ocean, but apart from the crowds. Our family had a great time and the house was everything described and more. The homeowners were quick to respond to our initial inquiry and when processing payments. But the entry code wasn't received when final payment was processed per the contract. Attempts to contact them a couple weeks before our visit went unanswered for 4 days. Our security deposit was returned only after contacting them again... 50+ days after our stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

Terry, thanks for allowing us to stay in your home this past weekend. It's a beautiful home and our family had a great time reuniting in Santa Cruz. The weather was great and the location could not have been better. I hope you'll allow us to stay there again in the future. Best regards... --GregDid you find this review helpful? 3 families enjoyed a great stay. The weather wa a little chilly, so roomy house was a plus. Liked the separate and quiet living room. BBQ & back yard porch wonderful additions. Close to boardwalk and great for morning walks to the lighthouse. Only drawback, linens were not placed in baths before we got there and kitchen utensil storage was a little messy. Lots of dishware & glasses were helpful for 3 families coming & going. Loved having so many bathrooms. Allowed for lots of privacy. Would stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
