More photo's and You Tube video of our home/information please go to our Facebook Page (see below).
Upgraded, contemporary furnishings with Zen inspired luxurious feel.Take full advantage of all the activities available such as golf, swimming, tennis, hiking, biking, trail running, and more. Or, simply enjoy the quiet, peaceful, rejuvenating setting with expansive views while you relax on the patio or by the two pools. Some of the homes in the town of Borrego on VRBO don't offer a pool or jacuzzi and we wouldn't want to rent a house in the desert without a pool. We have two huge pools, a recreational and a lap pool which is heated all year, and a short walk from our house. Also our front, back and side patio's are secure if you bring your doggie.
Take an early morning walk or bike around the golf cart path to catch the spectacular sunrise views. Catch the sunset while relaxing from the back patio over looking the golf course (which is currently closed) and Borrego Valley.
As you enter the living room you are surrounded by windows bringing the sense of the space, sunlight and quiet into the home. This beautiful two-bedroom, two-bath, 1400 square foot, contemporary home has new tile throughout. The master bedroom has its own sliding door to the patio facing the expansive views. Sleep restfully in our comfy bed with 550 thread count sheets. Wake in the morning to the morning light on the mountain view. The master bath is spacious with walk in closet and large oval deep tub for two. Every room has direct access to the outside. Absolutely breathtaking and light and bright!
The guest bedroom is separate and private. The décor is warm and inviting, with a window facing the eastern sunrise view, and sliding glass doors facing the interior courtyard of the home.
Each day provides a new opportunity to enjoy the many outdoor activities available in Borrego Springs. Once the largest Thompson Grape growing region in the state, Borrego Springs area is now a veritable playground for those that like to enjoy nature and the Anza-Borrego State Park, play golf, or lounge about the two pools.
The Tom Fazio golf course is closed due to the new owners not wanting to re-seed and operate a golf course with so few members and lack of funds. There are 3 public courses in town to play on.
Borrego Springs is the perfect place for any Triathletes looking to train for an Ironman triathlon. Borrego Springs offer endless bicycle rides free of cars and no stoplights at all, the numerous running trails and a uncrowded lap pool. Borrego Springs has all the elements of the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii-The heat of the desert, great cycling, endless running roads and trails, the lap pool and the mental toughness needed on the long stretches of Queen K Highway in Kona can be duplicated here in Borrego. The ultimate training ground for any short or long distance Ironman Triathlete.
Catch a Big Horn Sheep or two in the Palm Canyon Trails or visit the wonderful 129 metal sculptures in the Galleta Meadows situated throughout the Borrego Valley. Beautiful new model homes are also available for a Tour on the Montesoro property. We have the best Dog Park on the property complete with a big lake so bring your furry friends too! Romantic Retreat Expansive Views in Montesoro-Best Rates!
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Borrego Springs
We bought this home at Montesoro in Borrego because it is a beautiful, peaceful and offers one so much solitude. The grounds are beautiful and the views are the best in the Borrego Valley since we sit up high. We faithfully watch the sunrise most mornings and Montesoro was recently voted one the best places to watch the Sunrise and now one of the top places in the Nation according to USA Today to stargaze. It was also named one of the best places to buy a second home. The stars at night are better than any night sky that we have ever seen. Borrego was recently names an International Dark Sky Community, there are no stoplights in Borrego, no traffic, no pollution, no noise, no Starbucks. Our home is surrounded by 650,000 acres of state park and will never get over developed and turn into a concrete jungle like Palm Springs. This is the real desert! It's not about what's here, it's about what's not here!!!!!!!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The views from the living room and master bedroom are some of the best on the Montesoro property. The view is open and inspiring. The Santa Rosa Mountains are seen from every window in the living room. Indian Head can be seen from the master bed. Our golf course is not going to open so far this season and we are now enjoying walking and biking on the golf paths at Montesoro. BBQ's, sitting around the firepit, listening to the birds, watching the spectacular sunrise and sunsets are just a few things that we enjoy. The privacy, the peace and quiet, the night sky are some of the unique benefits of staying at our home. Nature is everywhere on this property from the owls to the jack rabbits, to the coyotes, to the selection of birds-a bird watchers paradise, and numerous kinds of ducks in the numerous lakes. We even have our very own huge dog park with a lake for the dogs to jump in after balls. There is also the Borrego Springs Yacht club on the property where we race little 32 inch mini sailboats. It is never crowded ever here and offers one so much peace and solitude. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! You will not be disappointed in this private retreat and jem of a place. Borrego Springs was recently awarded the prestigious International Dark Sky Community Certification and has long been a haven for stargazers, both professional and amateur. Rated by USA Today as one of the top 10 stargazing locations in the nation. Everytime we walk out our door at night we can't help but look up at the night sky. We are always in awe of the darkness and these magnificent stars above, we feel so lucky to be blessed with the most amazing place to stargaze. There aren't many places like this left in Southern California, so we always ENJOY what Borrego has to offer. We think everyone should visit Borrego and our property since it is a diamond in the rough type of place. Not everyone will get it and we hope you will be one of the lucky ones who
Our location is one of the highest in the row of Santa Fe homes so we have the best view of the Borrego Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains.
One of the largest State Parks in California, 650,000 acres of open parkland.
Palm Canyon is located in the state park abd the best place to view the Big Horn Sheep. An easy hike!
Owner's Map of Borrego Springs
Todd and I have been together for eighteen years and are happiest when out playing in nature especially In Borrego. We were competitive tri-athletes when we first met and competed at the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon in Kona Hawaii. We did a ton of our training here in Borrego during the heat of the summer to prepare for this race. We ended up falling in love with the Borrego Valley and decided to buy our get away home at Montesoro. We live at the beach in Cardiff By The Sea and love it here but found it getting increasingly busy and crowded. We spend most weekends cycling around the Borrego Valley, running and hiking the many beautiful trails, swimming laps in the lap pool and enjoy golfing. We also love just hanging out and listening and watching nature out and around our back patio. Montesoro is a place to just "Be" and to get away from all the stresses in life. This place has also enhanced our intimacy. It's hard to believe that a place like this still exists in Southern California! Borrego is the most Peaceful and Romantic place on the face of the earth. No One will bug you here!!!!!

We enjoyed spending the month of January in the sunshine at Montesoro. This vacation rental is well-sited for watching wildlife at the pond, as well as golfers at the sandtrap. We saw lots of different geese, ducks and other birds. One afternoon we even had a roadrunner calling from the top of the house! An added bonus was the agave starting its flower spike just before we left. It 2 days it had grown about 10 inches. Our dogs loved the pet park. They thought it was AWESOME! Our whole family liked the quiet neighborhoods and places to walk around the development. The owners were especially helpful in getting us in a day early so we didn't have a gap between vacation rentals in Borrego Springs. The fountain in the inner courtyard provided a very soothing background. We liked the various sayings in the artwork sprinkled around the property, too. We love Borrego Springs and the Galleta Meadows sculptures scattered around town. We plan to make more visits to the area.
Owner response:Hi Marcy and Dick, You were wonderful guests and we would love to have you back anytime. Thank you so much for staying with us and writing us such a nice review. We cannot be out there right now since Todd and I are busy working and glad you were able to enjoy our home for a month. Please come back next year, the ducks will be waiting for you and the dog park will miss you and your doggies! Thank you again, Todd and Trish Haskell

Trish and Todd: Thank you so much for sharing your incredible place in Borrego. The views of the mountains, golf course and lake are beautiful. We had great wildlife sitings of Canadian geese, rabbits, roadrunners, etc....all from the back patio! Enjoying the incredible night sky beside your fire pit was truly a pleasure. Todd and Trish's rental is a hidden gem of a place. It's in a development that's not overly developed - big plus. So you have all the amenities (pool, tennis, golf) without the crowds. The house is well maintained and laid out nicely - the bedrooms are far enough apart to offer privacy. And while there are other houses next to you, the design is such that you do not see or feel anything but out there by your lonesome. All you see out of the huge light-filled windows and off of the lovely patio is earth and sky. Borrego Springs itself is a funky little desert town, in a good way. It's developed enough to sustain some nice restaurants and a fabulous health food store (Tish's) but not so much that you feel like you're in another been-there-done-that cookie cutter place. We were there for the hiking and to spend time in the desert - love the Ocotillos and Teddy Bear Chollas! And when we weren't out in the park, we were relaxing by the pool. Thanks for sharing your wonderful place. We look forward to a return visit.
Owner response:Thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review on your experience in Borrego and at our home. We love sharing our place with others and feel you got what Borrego is all about. I am glad you found Tish at the health food store and experienced some of the local restaurants. I hope you will come back again someday. Thanks again, Trish Haskell

Hello Haskells! Matt and I wanted to take the time to tell you that we had such an amazing weekend. Your house is absolutely adorable... and very romantic I might add! We did it all- the refreshing swimming in the olympic-size pool, sun bathing, grilling, and watching the sunset over dinner. And you were right about the sunset- it was fabulous! I also wanted to thank you for having all of the amenities that a home would have so we didn't have to pack too much. I would absolutely recommend staying at your home if you want a nice, relaxing weekend with the one you love. We will definitely be back again soon! Thanks again for letting us stay in your charming Borrego retreat! -Kristina Gresh

We had a very enjoyable time at this beautiful home in Borrego Springs. Going in July as we did definitely incurs extremes in weather; 113 degrees one day and rain the next. The benefit of going then is that you pretty much have the complex to yourself. Everything is provided and the elegance is right up there with many of the 5 star resorts we have enjoyed.
Owner response:Greg, you are so sweet to take the time to write us a review on your stay. I hope you will come back when the temperatures are not so high. Todd and I enjoy going out in the summer because we do have the place to ourselves and love the mornings and evenings out there! Thanks again for staying with us.
