Our 2 homes share private, path access, down to the lake. Just beyond the firepit, at Lakehouse I, you will find the 12-by-12 look-out deck. From the deck, you then make your way down approximately 125 steps (with several landings, of course). When you reach the bottom of the steps you will be 1/2 way down the hill. The steps will meet the path. The remaining descent is natural terrain that begins very steep and then a gradually tapers off. The trek down to the lake can be challenging for some and is not recommended for the elderly or those with physical impairments. Once you reach to bottom of the hill there is a picnic/camping area and a cove to swim in or anchor/tie-off your boat.
The lower lake levels have enhanced our cove. We now have a lower grade, gradual shoreline that makes it ideal for walking along or swimming from the rocky shoreline. There is also larger rock area in which to fish from the shoreline.
Our homes are located in Nancy, Kentucky, approximately 25 minutes from the city of Somerset. This Lake Cumberland vacation rental home offers the perfect get-away for up to six couples or three to four families.
Enjoy beautiful Lake Cumberland in the day and relax and enjoy our home in the evening. Bring your own boat or rent one at Lee's Ford Marina or Conley Bottom Marina. A public boat ramp is located just 15 minutes away at Cumberland Point State Park. You can anchor/tie up your boat along the shoreline while you are at our home.
If you find this Lake Cumberland vacation rental too large for your needs or you need additional lodging, we also have another home - Lakehouse II, VRBO 86466 (2,200 square feet) on this same property with four bedrooms, two baths and two living areas.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2002
We had been houseboaters and campers for many years at Lake Cumberland...Once the kids came along we wanted to share Lake Cumberland with them...but kids needed more space than a houseboat had to offer. They like to explore and run around. Camping gave the kids more freedom, but we also liked having running water, a hot shower, amenities of your home kitchen and of course, a good mattress. Although we are no longer camping...we are very close to the woods and we still build a morning fire or a evening camp fire.
We make several trips a year to Lake Cumberland but when we are not using our home we like to share it with others.
Why the Owner Chose Nancy
We absolutely love Lake Cumberland. It is the best lake for boating, water-skiing, tubing, fishing...and of course doing the FLOATILLA. The water is deep and clean and goes on for miles. For the most part...very little boat traffic. Lake Cumberland is a man-made lake that his not heavily commercialized...therefore it is surrounded by the natural heavily wooded hillside. There are homes that overlook the lake but they are generally high up on the hillside.
We appreciate the home year round though. It is a great place to get away from reality. The fall is especially pretty when all the leaves are changing color. The spring is beautiful when all the trees begin to bloom. The cool evenings again are great for having a campfire. The winter time it is quiet and peaceful. Its a good place for family and/or friend time.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The best thing about staying at our home is you will get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It takes you to a place to forget about life for a while.
You may also get a little more exercise than normal depending on how many trips you make up and down to the lake. It can be a challenge to climb up/down the staircase and hill to the lake. This of course will make up for all the eating and drinking you will be doing while you are there.
There is a great view for those who don't want to go down to the lake. For those who do not have a boat, but want to explore the lake, there are 2 marina's near by in which you can rent watercraft.
While we don't have telephone service, we still have satellite tv and a stereo system. But don't forget about the hot tub and pool table that will also keep you entertained.

Katie , Columbus, Ohio
Homeowner Response:
Katie is "right on" with all of her comments. The shoreline is rocky and the slope continues on into the lake. It is a little difficult to sit in a chair on the shoreline, but carrying down a noodle or raft and swimming from the shoreline is the way to go if you do not have a boat or jet ski.
Positive Rating
Natalie Snyder , Carmel, Indiana
Homeowner Response:
Natalie is correct when she states that the lake is hard to reach. Making the trek down the 125 steps and then the steep hill is not so bad... but the climb back up can be a tough work-out for anyone, even those in the best shape. The climb up and down is not recommended for the very young, elderly or those with any ankle, knee, foot or health issues.
