We are just outside Coral Bay on the southeastern side of the island. Our house sits just above a beautiful Salt Pond and Grootpan Bay. The view of the ocean is magnificent. Our two private beaches are just a short walk from the house. The snorkeling from one of the private beaches is described by locals as one of the best on the entire island.
The house is on a small, secluded road, surrounded by The National Park. The salt pond is home to a variety of birds as well as animal life like mongoose, crabs, and lizards. Hiking trails are nearby and Coral Bay is only a ten-minute drive.

St John snorkeling

We've stayed at the Yellow House 3 times and plan to go back again & again. Our primary reason for going to St. John is to snorkel and from the house we can walk to two beaches in minutes and can drive to three more south-side beaches within 10 minutes. At all of these beaches the snorkeling is great and we are often the only people on two of the beaches with only scattered parties on two others most of the time. Of course, we can reach the northside beaches in 20-30 minutes when we want a change, though they're often more crowded. In the evening we can enjoy the great view from our balcony and rest from our hours in the water while we watch the sunset in a very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. At night the stars are wonderful because we're away from the lights of Cruz and Coral Bays. There are plenty of places to walk safely as well as to hike and plenty of birds to watch. The kitchen is well-equipped so that we can cook, yet we are within easy reach of good restaurants like Miss Lucy's and Shipwreck Landing or, a bit further, the several restaurants in Coral Bay. We can even drive into Cruz for the many restaurants there, for groceries and gas, though we much prefer the quieter East End. The apartment is clean and comfortable, easily accessible to any one, no stairs, with many thoughtful touches: beach chairs, beach towels, coolers, fans in every room so one doesn't have to suffer the chill of A/C, and a very useful library especially about St John's flora and fauna, but plenty of recreational reading as well. There are plenty of electrical outlets for computers, etc. Both the owner and the apartment manager onsite have been terrific, very responsive, full of suggestions about the island, where to shop, etc. We have taken family with us on one occasion, and rave about our stays to any one who will listen.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We were hoping this cottage would be quiet and secluded and it truly is. It is in a perfect spot. You see only one other house from the porch, where the view over the salt pond and ocean is just wonderful. The only noise is birds during the day and frogs and insects in the night. The house has everything you need and the kitchen is very well equipped. We prefer to cook and eat in rather than in restaurants and we cooked on the gas grill on the porch.- there are restaurants a short drive away if you want them. The décor is not fancy and the appliances not new, but everything is clean, orderly and in good working order. There are ceiling fans in all the rooms which really kept us comfortable- there are AC units but we didn’t need them. The two private beaches that are 10 minutes walk from the house are amazing. One bay in particular has really diverse coral and fish life, right off the beach. A treasure for kids, and novice snorkelers. There are some great books in the cottage that we used each night to identify the many many different fish, corals and creatures that we saw during the day. The house manager lives downstairs but you won’t know she is there, unless you want to ask her something and then she is very helpful. The road to the cottage is very rough, so you really do need a 4W drive vehicle, which you need to get around the island anyway. We just loved being able to eat breakfast on the porch, stroll down to the beach and snorkel and swim for hours. One of the most relaxing vacations we ever had and we hope to rent this cottage again.

This was our perfect island home for a week and the most reasonable of all accommodations. Excellent communication ahead of time with good advice from the owners. If you prefer a laid-back, quiet retreat nestled inside the national park, this is it. The 4-wheel Jeep took us everywhere we needed to go. Although we also did a diving trip out of Cruz Bay, we decided that the snorkling was far superior out of Kiddle! All within walking distance. We swam from Kiddle to Grootpan to Lamshur and felt like we could have kept going! We'd love to return some day.
