The price was very reasonable and the rental has the benefits that the other review noted, but the house is not well maintained. Some lights and fans were not working (some just needed new bulbs--simple enough if someone were taking care of the house). The family who was checking out as we were checking in said the house was not clean. The owner accused us of making a mess upon our check out, but the rental was not in fact not cleaned before our arrival.Owner response: Unfortunately they arrived before the cleaners. I let them arrive early. I leave bulbs there as you never know when one may burn out. I have changed many in my years!

The rate drew me in...pretty reasonable cost for the size. The owner was very nice to deal with. It is a great location a 3 minute walk to the beach, across the street (Duck Rd.) to the pool/tennis, and a short walk/bike ride to town. Nice feel when entering. Once we got settled we realized this house needed a lot more care than it's getting and that the owners go "on the cheap" with many items. A couple examples: the description lists "Cable TV" & "VCR," however the DVD/VCR only works on a small (19") TV in the bedroom. Renting from the owner brings the benefit of linens provided but the number of towels was less than the number the unit accommodated. The house is generally in a dirty condition. Lots of dust & cobwebs. Many items were broken, from the ceiling fan to the bathroom fan to light fixtures. Overall the price was good, location was good, a few nice things about the house but not quite what we hoped for to make this a comfortable stay. If cheap price is more important than cleanliness & function then this place is for you.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: Before owning we rented for many years. As an owner you depend on local people for things like cleaning and repairs. When I get a call from someone staying in our cottage I send someone to remedy the issue. When Bil told me about the TV I had it fixed, it had been broken before him by someone. The bath light was tripped and needed to be reset?? I provide sheets, not towels. Each season as with this one we start off with a complete claening and refreshing of the cottage and always hope that those renting will treat it like they owned it. Most years we have been very fortunate and have many repeat "friends"
