I never write reviews but couldn't help myself this time. This rental is wonderful! The cottage is incredibly well appointed and charming. The owners have thought of every detail and renters' needs. The grounds are beautiful and everything you'd want in a country getaway -- quiet, private, lush. More than anything, the owners/hosts are so warm and welcoming -- they made sure that we were not lacking any necessities for ourselves or our dogs. The ranch is an animal lovers' dream with the friendliest horses you'll ever meet and super sweet Vizslas. And, as friendly as the owners are, they were also respectful of our privacy. Among the many lovely touches and thoughtful details (far too many to list), I will certainly remember fondly the bottle of wine they left for us to enjoy by the pond which is right out of a Monet Water Lilies masterpiece. I cannot wait to return to this paradise!

This is a great spot for a nice relaxing get away. We had lots of activities planned but put most on the back burner as we just melted into hammock. The horses are friendly and enjoy a pet but the fence keeps them out. The house is very well set up. Great TV, Comfy bed and the scones were awesome! Very private. Loved it and will be back!

I was looking for a get away for myself and my dog. This place was just what we needed. Wonderful breakfast and a refrigerator full of great snacks. Lots of open space for the dog to run and play. Sonoma is a really dog friendly town and several wineries allow dogs in their tasting rooms. I spent my days shopping and wine tasting, got take-away food for dinner and watched movies and drank wine in the evenings. Wonderful and relaxing!!!

Alder Mews is a luxurious retreat, which gives you the best of both worlds: easy access to town, yet just far enough removed to feels worlds away from everything. We loved looking at the wildlife from our private view from our deck, the bird life at the pond and our hikes along the creek. The interior of the cottage is warm, welcoming, very well appointed, and the decor is upscale with a hint of whimsy. The owners have thought of every detail to make you feel at home from the well stocked refrigerator and kitchen, the delicious scones, the plethora of information about the area and restaurants, to interesting books and DVD's for your entertainment. We won't forget this place!

I am a world traveler--but I find myself returning again and again to Alder Mews--to the gracious hospitality of its owners and where the sights and sounds of nature reach out and touch you on the shoulder! The text and comments are true and accurate. Few places in the world offer the peace, serenity, ambiance and intimacy of this jewel in its setting--(yet within 45 minutes drive is San Francisco with all of its glitz and glamour!)----You will leave Alder Mews feeling re-newed and wondering----------- "when shall we return?"--------!

private cottage in gated community, in the woods. Couldn't be more serene for those who like such an experience. Owners, Karen and Peiter prepared a complete home--all you need. Complete kitchen, with refrig. stocked with breakfast stuff and a bottle of wine. A tree shaded patio with grill makes it easy to eat in. Pond to sit next to and a pool for a cool dip enhance the property. Owners live next door, they were welcoming but not intrusive at all. I recommend for those who want to stay busy with wine country, but come " home" to recharge. It was as advertised

This cottage and property are an amazing find. Idyllic was the word that kept coming to us all week. The horses, the pond, the hammock- everything about the cottage and hosts were cozy and friendly. We would absolutely recommend and hope to return someday!

I can't believe it's taken me this long to comment on Alder Mews! My fiancé chose this spot to propose to me almost two years back, and it truly could not have been better. Our hosts were beyond gracious, setting up an idyllic spot by the pond for him to propose, with a lovely bottle of champagne, rose and chocolates. How could I say no to that?! The guest house and its amenities were more than we could've hoped for for such an important time in our life, and we look forward to returning...maybe for our one year wedding anniversary this fall! Thanks again for making it so very special.Melissa + John Reitanop.s. So great, too, that our dog was able to be there with us -- fetching a stick by the pond while we sipped our champagne!

This is such a wonderful, restful and serene place in the country. The unit was very comfortable, and the refrigerator even had yogurt and fruit to tempt us. It was wonderful and relaxing, and we plan to return. Nice hosts, and sweet dogs.

We were looking for something convenient and never expected anything this wonderful when we booked this perfect cottage in the woods. It is just 10 minutes from the delights of Sonoma and the wineries but sits on 26 private acres of forest primeval. When we tired of tourist attractions, we wandered up and down hills under the copious green shade of ancient moss-covered bay and oak trees. All was utter peace and quiet punctuated with calls of wild turkeys, chattering of squirrels and whinnies of the stabled horses. What a wonderful refuge--new and charming with a fully stocked refrigerator, home made scones and all the modern amenities one could wish for. We'll definitely be back!

What a delightful place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the little touches like finding wine and cheese in our refrigerator. Our hosts made us feel very welcome. We felt as if we had known them for years. This is truly the place to stay in Sonoma

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we will definitely be re-visiting Alder Mews on future trips to the wine country. The cottage is delightfully and tastefully furnished, with all the expected amenities and more. There were some very nice touches --like homemade scones in the morning and bottle of wine waiting for us when we checked in. We particularly liked being away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown square (though still a quick drive into town to some great restaurants). The setting is quiet and serene, and we loved watching the wild geese fly into the pond, and our wonderful walks through the oaks and rolling hills. This was a memorable, relaxing getaway...thank you!

What a breath taking place! I loved waking up in shear privacy looking through an oak grove straight from my bed! My husband was thrilled to take a walk at sunrise to the pond with a cup of coffee to watch the wild geese. The hosts were so gracious and generous with their hospitality...offering homemade scones the first morning! The place is immaculate, spacious, elegantly designed, very private and only ten minutes from the plaza! I will return again and again!

The owner's gave us a very special welcome on arrival. They made our stay perfect in everyway. Mornings hearing the horses and seeing the wild turkeys with coffee on the patio became addictive. Chose this cottage and you won't be disappointed, only happy you did. approximately 10 minutes away from town and wineries. Really nice accommations as photos present.

Alder Mews was the perfect place to stay in Wine Country. Close to the Sonoma town plaza (5-10 minutes), but just far enough away that you get beautiful country vistas, solitude and quiet as well. Welcoming personal touches like fresh-baked scones, a fridge stocked with goodies and a delicious bottle of wine also await your arrival. The owners, Karen and Pieter, locals for 30+ years, are very concerned that you have what you need to have the best vacation possible - directions, information on local wineries and restaurants, as well as the "inside local scoop" on the sites that you may not get anyplace else. Overall, great place, great time and would stay here again.
