Welcome to the Great Escape! Get away from it all, and yet, be in the midst of it all, in a location that offers everything needed for that perfect Florida Keys vacation (without sacrificing all the comforts of home).

The Great Escape is located in Pine Channel Estates, near mile-marker 29 of US-1, Big Pine Key, close to shopping and many fine restaurants. The home is situated on a very clean canal which offers equal access via Pine Channel to both the Atlantic Ocean for great fishing, boating, snorkeling, and diving, and the Gulf of Mexico with awesome backcountry fishing and kayaking.

Big Pine Key is home to the Key Deer and is only a 30-minute drive to Key West and a 20-minute drive to Marathon. Bahia Honda State Park, with its famous white sand beach is less than 10 minutes away. Travel by boat to the Looe Key Sanctuary for a unique day of snorkeling at a living coral reef.

The Great Escape is a very spacious, immaculate, three bedrooms, three full baths, private home with central air. It is decorated in a relaxing, classy-tropical decor. The home will accommodate up to eight guests. No smoking or pets are allowed.

The great room includes a well-equipped kitchen, dining room with a large table, and living room with plenty of seating for watching your favorite programs and sports on the 32-inch satellite TV. Wireless Internet is provided (so don't forget to bring your computer). Three sliding glass doors lead out onto a large screened-in porch with comfortable patio furniture for relaxing, eating, reading, or napping on the chaise lounge. Most likely, you will enjoy eating all your meals and watching TV from out there.

The master and guest bedrooms on the upper floor both have king-size beds. The master bedroom has a private bathroom, and the guest bedroom has a shared adjoining bathroom. All linens and towels are provided, as well as a washer and dryer.

The lower floor bedroom suite has a queen-size bed, a full bath, and a futon for relaxing and watching TV. A small refrigerator is provided. Sliding glass doors open to the private patio that leads to the dock and canal. It is a great place to sit on a chaise lounge with your morning coffee or have an evening barbecue with friends on the picnic table. Both gas and charcoal grills are provided.

Just a few steps from the house is a concrete dock with a fish cleaning table. The tiled, stepped-down, patio area includes an outdoor shower and swim ladder. It is a great place to relax and get that beautiful Keys tan. The canal is very clean and is perfect for swimming. There is ample space to tie up your boat and it will be close and ready for you to hop aboard at a moment’s notice. Go fish, play, take a sunset cruise, or cross Pine Channel and tie up to the Parrotdise Bar and Grille dock for a waterfront happy hour and dinner.

The tropical, fenced-in yard has garden pathways and many tropical plants and trees. Under the house, there is protected parking for your vehicle. There is also room to park a boat trailer and a storage area for all of your fishing and snorkeling equipment. Also included is a chest freezer for extras (and all that fish you will be catching)!

  • This is definitely a proprery that looks just like its photos. The house is very comfortable, clean and easy to navigate through. We had no problem feeling "at home" while we were staying here. The dock was a big selling point since our visit revolved around fishing. We were able to park our 28' cat boat with no problem and access to the Gulf and Ocean was very easy. The use of a chest freezer for our bait and our daily catches was a real plus. All in all this is a great place to stay, fish and relax. We will most assuredly return to stay with you again.   • This was our second time at the Great Escape and it was even better than the first. The house is kept up beautifully and has great comfortable furniture and all the amenities you could want. We used the supplied bicycles many times and the canal on which the house fronts is very clean and great for swimming. We kayaked from the house several times to explore the mangroves and it was beautiful. Bette and Ski are great hosts. We are returning next year as I can't think of a nicer place to stay. We used the bikes a lot and took one to Key West one day to explore that place by bicycle. I can't think of one thing I would chance. Our friends who visited couldn't get over how nice the house is and we enjoyed the Lower Keys from Marathon to Key West. We will be back. Peter & Susan

    We have been coming to the Keys (Marathon) for years. This time we tried Big Pine Key. We were lucky to find the Great Escape. Our 30 day stay was also the longest vacation we've ever taken. Our children and granddaughter & a few friends came down to see us during our stay. Bette & Ski, you have a beautiful and comfortable home. Anything we needed was here & more. The foliage is so tropical & so much better than all the other yards with sand or rock. The stepdown dock is wonderful. Key West is only 25 miles away. We had a blast.   • We had a great time at the Great Escape. You could not ask for more accommodating hosts, the house was fully furnished and very comfortable. We loved the upper level screened in porch and ate most of our meals enjoying the view. We brought our boat and the facilities for docking and cleaning fish were first rate. Another nice touch was the lower level deep freeze for bait and storing your catch. I would definitely recommend the Great Escape to anyone who is looking for a very comfortable and well equipped home for a vacation.

  • We recently spent a month (January 2008) at "The Great Escape". We very much enjoyed our stay and would gladly recommend this property. There is not a whole lot to add to the previous comments except to say that we agree with all of them. We especially would like to say that this is our fourth rental thru VRBO and while all of them have been satisfactory, this house is by far the cleanest one we have ever rented. We felt like the place had been painted and cleaned just for us. I told Betty it was cleaner than my own home and that was not an exaggeration. The home is very conveniently located, the yard is fantastic - fun to walk around every day and see what is blooming next. My husband especially enjoyed the screened-in deck or porch - he spent most of his time there - I enjoyed it too but I also like to sunbath in the back yard on the canal
