Welcome to the Great Escape! Get away from it all, and yet, be in the midst of it all, in a location that offers everything needed for that perfect Florida Keys vacation (without sacrificing all the comforts of home).
The Great Escape is located in Pine Channel Estates, near mile-marker 29 of US-1, Big Pine Key, close to shopping and many fine restaurants. The home is situated on a very clean canal which offers equal access via Pine Channel to both the Atlantic Ocean for great fishing, boating, snorkeling, and diving, and the Gulf of Mexico with awesome backcountry fishing and kayaking.
Big Pine Key is home to the Key Deer and is only a 30-minute drive to Key West and a 20-minute drive to Marathon. Bahia Honda State Park, with its famous white sand beach is less than 10 minutes away. Travel by boat to the Looe Key Sanctuary for a unique day of snorkeling at a living coral reef.
The Great Escape is a very spacious, immaculate, three bedrooms, three full baths, private home with central air. It is decorated in a relaxing, classy-tropical decor. The home will accommodate up to eight guests. No smoking or pets are allowed.
The great room includes a well-equipped kitchen, dining room with a large table, and living room with plenty of seating for watching your favorite programs and sports on the 32-inch satellite TV. Wireless Internet is provided (so don't forget to bring your computer). Three sliding glass doors lead out onto a large screened-in porch with comfortable patio furniture for relaxing, eating, reading, or napping on the chaise lounge. Most likely, you will enjoy eating all your meals and watching TV from out there.
The master and guest bedrooms on the upper floor both have king-size beds. The master bedroom has a private bathroom, and the guest bedroom has a shared adjoining bathroom. All linens and towels are provided, as well as a washer and dryer.
The lower floor bedroom suite has a queen-size bed, a full bath, and a futon for relaxing and watching TV. A small refrigerator is provided. Sliding glass doors open to the private patio that leads to the dock and canal. It is a great place to sit on a chaise lounge with your morning coffee or have an evening barbecue with friends on the picnic table. Both gas and charcoal grills are provided.
Just a few steps from the house is a concrete dock with a fish cleaning table. The tiled, stepped-down, patio area includes an outdoor shower and swim ladder. It is a great place to relax and get that beautiful Keys tan. The canal is very clean and is perfect for swimming. There is ample space to tie up your boat and it will be close and ready for you to hop aboard at a moment’s notice. Go fish, play, take a sunset cruise, or cross Pine Channel and tie up to the Parrotdise Bar and Grille dock for a waterfront happy hour and dinner.
The tropical, fenced-in yard has garden pathways and many tropical plants and trees. Under the house, there is protected parking for your vehicle. There is also room to park a boat trailer and a storage area for all of your fishing and snorkeling equipment. Also included is a chest freezer for extras (and all that fish you will be catching)!

Don't waste your time looking at any other rentals, this one has all you need and could want! The location is excellent, not to far from shopping, touring and fishing right out the back door! The home is beautiful, clean and well maintained. If you need something the owners go out of their way to accommodate you. As our wonderful month long adventure comes to an end, we will once again go away with incredible memories. Our month began w/a gorgeous sunset & fireworks at the Sugarloaf tiki bar July 4th. Despite heavy rain the first week, we explored our favorite shops and restaurants. We will go home with fishing, diving, sunset, lobster tails (tales). Perhaps the most memorable is the 45 minutes dolphin (porpoise)encounter we had while 25 miles out off shore fishing for the other kind o dolphin (mahi mahi). We had our own private show while they rode the bow waves and played. Thanks Bette and Ski.

Once again we throughly enjoyed our stay. The house is bright, super clean, modern and comfortable as well as conveniently located for those wishing to explore the lower Keys. Bette & Ski Everything about our vacation this year was exceptional . The weather was perfect. The house was in beautiful condition, as always. This house is so clean and comfortable. The screened-in porch with the sliding chairs is awesome! Our most favorite thing about this house is the beautiful yard and clean, deep water canal. Everyday i jumped in and swam. It was fabulous. My wife and I and 5 other family members rented this great house in Big Pine Key for the month of July 2010. This house is such a great bargain with it's amenity's and superb location. The house was decorated professionaly and had all the comforts of home. We brought our boat and docked it behind the house the whole time. In just a few steps and a short boat ride we were snorkling over beautiful reefs or catching dinner. We had a twenty year old college junior with us and the downstairs apartment with it's private entrance couldn't have been a better set up. This was the highlight of his trip on top of everything else he loved. We look forward to renting this house every chance we get especially sense we are only a 3 hour drive up the coast. What a great find...the owners couldn't have been nicer and there add was right on the money...no surprizes. We tryed every restaurants in the area but we epecially liked (what turned out to be the closest) Big Pine restaurant a half of a mile away and the the Square Grouper about 8 miles south. Key West was so close yet a nice distance away we like that very much. We would recommend this house to everyone....whats not to love..

Having stayed at "The Great Escape" this past June with my family was truly a great experience! It was the most spacious tropical home we have ever stayed at. The descriptions and photos of the property were exactly as provided by VRBO. The totally equipped kitchen had everything you need to make meals, tropical beverages, and serve your meals on pretty dishes and serveware plus so much more. The decor was beautifully coordinated throughout the home using the colors of the sands, sea, and sky; along with sea-life objects of art, paintings,pictures, and seashells. The gorgeous landscaping which surrounds the home beautifully gives you a true feeling of privacy. We enjoyed using the outdoor grill and picnic table for our hot dog and hamberger suppers several times while there. The large screened porch was a blessing to enjoy for some sunset dinners without worrying about the mosquitoes! The large table and many comfortable chairs made it so relaxing to enjoy your meals outdoors. The very nice tile paved canal front area is really convenient when getting in and out of your boat, or using the swim ladder. So nice to not step on sharp pebbles! Our kids loved the bicycles and rode them to town to sightsee several times. We definitely will recommend " The Great Escape to our friends and family anytime for a wonderful vacation in the Florida Keys! We will certainly be back again ! The owners of the property were so helpful to us, and friendly in our communications with them if anything was needed.

This is the best place to rent. Working with Bette and Ski is a pleasure. They go out of their way to provide you with everything you need in their lovely home for an enjoyable vacation. My husband is a swimmer and liked swimming every day in the clean canal. He also likes fishing and caught many snapper for numerous dinners. The house is immaculate, Bette and Ski's pride of ownership shows. The landscaping around the house is gorgeous to look at . We couldn't of been more pleased. We would definitely rent again.

We spent the month of March at The Great Escape in 2010. There were four adults in our party and we were all extremely satisfied with the accommodations provided here. The house is kept in perfect condition and was decorated in very soothing colors and fabrics. The location is perfect for getting to shopping, Key West, beaches and Marathon. The canal was great for swimming and the owners could not have been any nicer! We plan on staying here again in 2011!
