As our wonderful month long adventure comes to an end, we will once again go away with incredible memories. Our month began w/a gorgeous sunset & fireworks at the Sugarloaf tiki bar July 4th. Despite heavy rain the first week, we explored our favorite shops and restaurants. We will go home with fishing, diving, sunset, lobster tails (tales). Perhaps the most memorable is the 45 minutes dolphin (porpoise)encounter we had while 25 miles out off shore fishing for the other kind o dolphin (mahi mahi). We had our own private show while they rode the bow waves and played. Thanks Bette and Ski.

Bette & Ski Everything about our vacation this year was exceptional . The weather was perfect. The house was in beautiful condition, as always. This house is so clean and comfortable. The screened-in porch with the sliding chairs is awesome! Our most favorite thing about this house is the beautiful yard and clean, deep water canal. Everyday i jumped in and swam. It was fabulous. My wife and I and 5 other family members rented this great house in Big Pine Key for the month of July 2010. This house is such a great bargain with it's amenity's and superb location. The house was decorated professionaly and had all the comforts of home. We brought our boat and docked it behind the house the whole time. In just a few steps and a short boat ride we were snorkling over beautiful reefs or catching dinner. We had a twenty year old college junior with us and the downstairs apartment with it's private entrance couldn't have been a better set up. This was the highlight of his trip on top of everything else he loved. We look forward to renting this house every chance we get especially sense we are only a 3 hour drive up the coast. What a great find...the owners couldn't have been nicer and there add was right on the money...no surprizes. We tryed every restaurants in the area but we epecially liked (what turned out to be the closest) Big Pine restaurant a half of a mile away and the the Square Grouper about 8 miles south. Key West was so close yet a nice distance away we like that very much. We would recommend this house to everyone....whats not to love..

Our "Great Escape" vacation was GREAT!!

Having stayed at "The Great Escape" this past June with my family was truly a great experience! It was the most spacious tropical home we have ever stayed at. The descriptions and photos of the property were exactly as provided by VRBO. The totally equipped kitchen had everything you need to make meals, tropical beverages, and serve your meals on pretty dishes and serveware plus so much more. The decor was beautifully coordinated throughout the home using the colors of the sands, sea, and sky; along with sea-life objects of art, paintings,pictures, and seashells. The gorgeous landscaping which surrounds the home beautifully gives you a true feeling of privacy. We enjoyed using the outdoor grill and picnic table for our hot dog and hamberger suppers several times while there. The large screened porch was a blessing to enjoy for some sunset dinners without worrying about the mosquitoes! The large table and many comfortable chairs made it so relaxing to enjoy your meals outdoors. The very nice tile paved canal front area is really convenient when getting in and out of your boat, or using the swim ladder. So nice to not step on sharp pebbles! Our kids loved the bicycles and rode them to town to sightsee several times. We definitely will recommend " The Great Escape to our friends and family anytime for a wonderful vacation in the Florida Keys! We will certainly be back again ! The owners of the property were so helpful to us, and friendly in our communications with them if anything was needed.

This is the best place to rent. Working with Bette and Ski is a pleasure. They go out of their way to provide you with everything you need in their lovely home for an enjoyable vacation. My husband is a swimmer and liked swimming every day in the clean canal. He also likes fishing and caught many snapper for numerous dinners. The house is immaculate, Bette and Ski's pride of ownership shows. The landscaping around the house is gorgeous to look at . We couldn't of been more pleased. We would definitely rent again.

A Beautiful Spot in Big Pine Key

We spent the month of March at The Great Escape in 2010. There were four adults in our party and we were all extremely satisfied with the accommodations provided here. The house is kept in perfect condition and was decorated in very soothing colors and fabrics. The location is perfect for getting to shopping, Key West, beaches and Marathon. The canal was great for swimming and the owners could not have been any nicer! We plan on staying here again in 2011!

This is definitely a proprery that looks just like its photos. The house is very comfortable, clean and easy to navigate through. We had no problem feeling "at home" while we were staying here. The dock was a big selling point since our visit revolved around fishing. We were able to park our 28' cat boat with no problem and access to the Gulf and Ocean was very easy. The use of a chest freezer for our bait and our daily catches was a real plus. All in all this is a great place to stay, fish and relax. We will most assuredly return to stay with you again. This was our second time at the Great Escape and it was even better than the first. The house is kept up beautifully and has great comfortable furniture and all the amenities you could want. We used the supplied bicycles many times and the canal on which the house fronts is very clean and great for swimming. We kayaked from the house several times to explore the mangroves and it was beautiful. Bette and Ski are great hosts. We are returning next year as I can't think of a nicer place to stay. We have been coming to the Keys (Marathon) for years. This time we tried Big Pine Key. We were lucky to find the Great Escape. Our 30 day stay was also the longest vacation we've ever taken. Our children and granddaughter & a few friends came down to see us during our stay. Bette & Ski, you have a beautiful and comfortable home. Anything we needed was here & more. The foliage is so tropical & so much better than all the other yards with sand or rock. The stepdown dock is wonderful. Key West is only 25 miles away. We had a blast. We had a great time at the Great Escape. You could not ask for more accommodating hosts, the house was fully furnished and very comfortable. We loved the upper level screened in porch and ate most of our meals enjoying the view. We brought our boat and the facilities for docking and cleaning fish were first rate. Another nice touch was the lower level deep freeze for bait and storing your catch. I would definitely recommend the Great Escape to anyone who is looking for a very comfortable and well equipped home for a vacation.

We recently spent a month (January 2008) at "The Great Escape". We very much enjoyed our stay and would gladly recommend this property. There is not a whole lot to add to the previous comments except to say that we agree with all of them. We especially would like to say that this is our fourth rental thru VRBO and while all of them have been satisfactory, this house is by far the cleanest one we have ever rented. We felt like the place had been painted and cleaned just for us. I told Betty it was cleaner than my own home and that was not an exaggeration. The home is very conveniently located, the yard is fantastic - fun to walk around every day and see what is blooming next. My husband especially enjoyed the screened-in deck or porch - he spent most of his time there - I enjoyed it too but I also like to sunbath in the back yard on the canal

Dear Betty and Ski, Our vacation at the Great Escape was so very special. Your guest home had every need supplied plus any extra needs that sometimes popped up. Then in addition we enjoyed all the beauti- ful decor, spaciousness, garden, and lovely views. It was soo clean and had its own warmth and coziness which we truly enjoyed. Our guys enjoyed the internet services immensely but I really loved the feeling of being off in another world - so relaxing. The canal is so clean and refreshing plus all one needs to prepare fish and trimmings. Loved that morning coffee on the deck with plenty of fans!! We had a fun time. Sept. 2007 (Wanted to share this from our home guest book) To Bette and Ski, Being here in this beautiful setting is like being far off on an island. Anything we needed was right here. Absolutely perfect!! We must add our admiring comments to all the very favorable ones already here. We have been renting in the Keys for about 20 years, visitors much longer. This home is by far the nicest we have enjoyed. The home (and it is a home, not just a house) is beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped. The gardens are an arboretum and the canal waterfront is comfortable and attractive. We spent many hours there with our family. The kids loved swimming in the clean canal and we found the water access to the great fishing and diving grounds of Looe Key and the continuing reef to be excellent. We are boaters and this is a perfect location. Thanks, Bette and Ski, for making this available to us. See you next year.

This was our fifth trip to the keys(the first in August). We have rented homes in SugarLoaf&Cudjoe Keys. The Ski's home was by far the best. Our daughter and grandchildren spent the first two weeks with us and that had a great time. We all swam in the canal(the water was crystal clear),used the paddle boat, and most of us used the bikes just about everyday. The house and gardens were beautiful. There wasn't anything that we looked for that that we could not find. We cannot say enough good things about the owners,Ski&Bette. We are just sorry that the house is not available for us to rent when we return to the Keys in Feb&Mar.

Wow, what an amazing place.This truly is a fully furnished house. Anything we had at home we could find here. The kitchen was so completely stocked that our friend who loves to cook had no problem serving us many gourmet meals. The interior is so nicely appointed, we lived in total comfort for 5 weeks. And the yard is beautifully maintained and has plenty of choices for comfortable, outdoor seating. But I have to admit, my favorite spot was the screened in porch. Being there in the month of June, it was plenty hot. Temps averaged in the 90’s and many days a breeze was non-existent. However, the 3 ceiling fans on the porch kept the air moving and the lounge chair extra comfy. I fell asleep many afternoons in that chair.The owners, Bette & Ski, are extremely accommodating and some of the nicest people we’ve met. They actually installed high speed internet for us and didn’t mind any time we called them with questions. I hate to leave such a rousing tribute only because I don’t want the place to fill up for when we want it next year. Oh well, they deserve it.Thanks for making our vacation so relaxing and memorable ;-)

However, the 3 ceiling fans on the porch kept the air moving and the lounge chair extra comfy. I fell asleep many afternoons in that chair. The owners, Bette & Ski, are extremely accommodating and some of the nicest people we’ve met. They actually installed high speed internet for us and didn’t mind any time we called them with questions. I hate to leave such a rousing tribute only because I don’t want the place to fill up for when we want it next year. Oh well, they deserve it. Thanks for making our vacation so relaxing and memorable ;-)

We stayed here from late December 2005 through January 2006. It was absolutely great. The house is beautiful and well kept. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and we had great correspondence with them. Everything at the house was first rate. They even got us a new gas grill as the old one was damaged from the hurricanes. The furnishings and decor are great and the whole place had a homey feel to it. Our children and grandchildren joined us for part of the time and they told us they would love to return. So would we.

to anyone interested in renting in the big pine area....this beautiful home has all the comforts and luxury's you have ever dreamed of, for the perfect vacation home. we have been renting in bigpine for 15 years, and the last 3 years have been here at the GTREAT ESCAPE! it has been a pleasure. god willing we'll do this for another 15 years. this home is so wonderful to stay at. the bedrooms are beautiful, having 3 bathrooms and an outdoor shower is the best. we all dive off the dock into the crystal clear 18 ft. deep canal. where you can sometimes see beautiful parrot fish, and other reef fish. it's gorgeous.the livingroom and dinning area are so open, airy, and comfortable. the kitchen has all the new appliances and every other kitchen items you could ever want. but our favorite place is out on the screened in porch. thats where we spend most of our time. the landscapeing in this yard is the best ive seen in the keys. it really has a nice tropical touch. everything about this house we love, and we cant wait to go back next winter. gena & pete, cape cod massachusetts
