Year Purchased: 1996
My Love for Hawaii started at a very early age as I grew up in Oahu. I loved everything about Hawaii, from the ocean to the mountains. In 1979 I returned to live on the Big Island and have called it my home every since. My husband joined me in life in 1992 and we have shared the wonder of Hawaii together these past 17 years. We love to garden and our property reflects all our efforts. Picking papayas, bananas, oranges, grapefruit, mangoes, limes, lemons and pineapples gives us such a thrill.
The cottage is very close to many beaches where we zip down for a snorkel and swim most days. We have wonderful neighbors and friends to share beautiful sunsets with and are always happy to have visitors enjoy the cottage.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We designed and built the cottage ourselves in 1996. My love of the islands gave me a strong sense of design for the tropical lifestyle. It was a labor of love and that is reflected in the grounds, house and decorations.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We most enjoy our large covered lanai, from the time we get up in the morning, awakened by the birdsong awaiting their breakfast to the beautiful sunsets that light up the sky with their spectacular show every evening.

This cottage is so beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. The pictures do not do it justice! It is way more than we expected for the price. The book Toni has put together is an amazing resource. We used it every day of our stay. She lists all the nicest beaches to go to, even the hidden ones that are hard to find. It was such an adventure! The best snorkeling on the island is just a 5 minute drive down the mountain. Swimming with the wild dolphins and sea turtles, as Toni suggests in the book, is a life-changing experience. We enjoyed doing all of the tourist attractions in Hawaii, however, our best day on the island was the one we just stayed at the cottage and enjoyed the beautiful ocean view and wonderful fruit gardens. The fresh pineapple and limes are like no other in the world! We highly recommend staying at the beautiful A Hale Lani cottage and we hope to return some day soon. Toni, Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful house with us! We loved everything! All of the special touches and the beauty that you have added to make the house so welcoming, from the artwork, flowers, plants, dishes and furniture. We enjoyed it all! We want to say that it was beyond our expectations!We have never been so relaxed; and my husband said it was by far the best house we have ever rented anywhere! The property was clean and everything was included exactly like the photos only better. It was close to the town and it has the most amazing view from the lanai. On our seventh trip to Hawaii, we finally hit the jackpot on accomodations. A Hale Lani turned out to be our favorite spot in all the islands, and we have been to them all more than once. First of all, the setting overlooking the Pacific with the magnificent grounds captivated us immediately. But, when we went inside we knew we could not possibly have found a better spot for us. This is a special place. Our wonderful memories include dinner on the lanai looking out at the stars and Kona below with Hawaiian music coming from the sound system in the house, unique outdoor showers in seclusion outside the bathroom door, a large and heavenly comfortable bed, the feeling of tropical breezes and sunshine even while in the house, and most of all the complete privacy at all times. While we were off on activities each day, we were thrilled knowing we would be returning to our little romantic get away each night. We listened to all the Hawaiian CD's, perused with great interest the helpful local information supplied by the owners, sat and read by the soft lighting on the lanai, and never turned on the TV. The kitchen suited us fine, and we used the outdoor barbecue for many terrific dinners. This place is definitely a 10 as far as we are concerned, and we can't wait to return in November 2010, this time for 2 weeks instead of one. We thank the owners, who could not have done more for their guests.

A Hale Lani is authentic, unspoiled and simply spectacular in all regards. It is located 'up country' where the evenings are cool - natural air-conditioning! The cottage, set on acreage above Kailua Kona town, is a private, get-away retreat. It's humbleness, purity and breathtaking ocean views cast a spell on those fortunate enough to visit. The enchantment will grow the longer you stay. A Hale Lani's bones and Hawaiian design provide a wonderful study in architecture and siting. It's finest detail is the private outdoor shower, with view, designed for alfresco bathing! (Yes, there is an inside shower as well - but seldom used I'm sure!) The owner's discription of A Hale Lani is accurate. The cottage is always clean, the bed very comfortable and the owners provide their guests with an extensive list of restaurants, activities and attractions located near-by and around the big island. You will truly enjoy yourselves. It's our favorite escape!
