We had seven in our group, including a 3 year old and a 6 year old. I enjoyed this vacation more than most simply because it was the most relaxing one I have ever been on- including cruises. Being able to take my two young girls out to the private beach every day was priceless. I was able to sit and watch them play in the water without fear, because the beach is graded and walkable several yards into the lake. In the evenings we would all make dinner, fish, swim and watch the fireworks that go off every night at Cedar Point at 10pm (You can see them from the jetty really well) We enjoyed meeting Jim and Diane, and our children enjoyed playing with their grandchildren very much- so much that we MUST come back next year to catch up with them! This was the first time I have had a vacation that I was truly sorry to see end.Thank you Jim and Diane for a most enjoyable family vaca! Hope to see you next year!Did you find this review helpful? Our five-person family-oriented crew, from IN, KY, MI, ID and GA, spend a week fishing each May. We've fished as far as north as Lac Gueguen near Val-d'Or, Quebec, Canada and as far south as Lake Douglas in Tennessee and Avalon on the Bay proved to be among the top 5 places we've rented! The ease of access to Lake Erie from the house is incredible...quick to return to the bay/house in inclement weather. The private slip behind the house IS IDEAL as we take alot onto and off of the boat each morning and evening. The fishing off the jetty was fruitful for bass. Jim was very gracious with his fishing tips and tricks and attentive to all of our other questions! It was nice knowing Jim was two houses down, should anything go awry. But since the condition of the cottage was impeccable, there wasn't much concern that something would go wrong. The cottage was as depicted in the pictures. What isn't shown is a 13" color CRT TV; this didn't bother us though since we played cards and games in the sunroom when we weren't out fishing. One bedroom has one Double bed; it would be nice if it were a queen or king-sized bed...to fit two people more easily. The hot water heater is on the small side...only one of us were able to shower normally before it ran out; or two, if we turned the water off in between rinses. We created a 'shower schedule' or sorts by week's end. All-in-all our experience was most pleasant and relaxing. I am so thankful Jim & Diana keep this gem on the rental market...we will be back for more Walleye fishing! Thanks from the Fishin' Five!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Very well kept, clean cottage with easy ten minute access to the lake. Jim and Diane were great hosts and really CARE about how your stay goes......I would highly recommend this cottage if looking for a place with a view, easy access to Lake Eire and the Islands, and close to the numerous family activities the Marbelhead/Sandusky area has to offer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words Brian. You are welcome back anytime. Folks, check us out. We are always ready to assist and as stated, ALWAYS provide clean accommodations and a friendly, relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Recently my sister, cousin, and I stayed here. It was most enjoyable. The accommodations were excellent and the view was spectacular. The location was perfect for what we wanted to do; shop, swim, ferry ride to the islands, and just plain relax. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We enjoyed going out during the day and looked forward to returning to our "home" in the afternoon and evening. It was just perfect. Thanks to Jim and Diana for providing a great little get away. I do hope we can make it back someday.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed the last week of June 2011 and it was perfect for our family (3 boys). The location of the cottage is centrally located to many attractions and water activities. While we were there, we visited Put-in-Bay (Adventure Bay is a must with kids) and Cedar Point. The cottage is very clean and spacious with all the amenties you need. The sunroom has an incredible view. Although there is a very small beach area in front of the property, we went to the East Harbor State Park Beach. We rented a boat from Clemons and took the kids skiing and tubing. It was a very fun vacation and the property owner, Jim, was a great host. You may see him on Shark Tank some day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time staying here. Everything was really clean & updated. The kids loved being able to walk out of the front door and fish right off the dock. It was very convenient being so close to Lakeside & Kelley's Island (which was the main reason for selecting this location). We will definitely come back here again!Owner response: We are so glad that you had a great time and welcome you back anytime. Always clean, always peaceful and always friendly. Close to all the islands, ferries, shops, yet secluded and relaxing, Avalon on the Bay.

What a nice visit to Marblehead and points close-by. Many thanks to Jim and Diana for their accommodations. The views, the comfort, everything... "over the top". Great boat trip to the light where Ginny hauled in a 24" walleye. We would love to return...Thanks again.Owner response: Ginny & Bill, Thank you for the kind words. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return. Sincerely, Jim & Diana Stevens

Wonderful location, close to all the things to see & do in the area. Perfect place to stay if you have a boat and want to be in the middle of everything. Nice dock, sheltered from wind & waves (fit my 23' boat perfectly). Very clean and well maintained cottage. The owners are very friendly, and went the extra mile to help us out. We (family of 4) had a great time, and would definately stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Overall our experience here was very good. We did a lot of fishing off the jetty in front of the cottage and caught fish! The view is spectular. The cottage was amazingly clean and very comfortable. The only drawback for us was that there was no grass. Rocks surround the cottage and jetty.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 16/19

Jim and Diana, What a great time we had over the Labor Day weekend at your cottage at Avalon on the Bay. We enjoyed several festivals, markets and restaurants, but the highlight was returning to the cottage to enjoy the view of the bay and the peace and quiet. It was a pleasure to meet both of you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 10/11

My wife and I have been staying here for several years. It has a fine view of Sandusky Bar Looking across to Johnson's Island. Civil War buffs will want to see the Confederate Officers' cemetery on the island. In inclement weather the glassed in front porch provides a comfortable place to read, puzzle and let the world go by. Right in front as well as in several nearby natures areas the bird watching is excellent. The cottage is clean, the appliances are well maintained and with a bit of improvising, we could make it work for my power wheelchair. From an accessibility standpoint the only drawbacks are the small bathroom, the need for a portable ramp on the front entrance and the gravel in froont and in the parking area. We get into the cottage by lowering the van ramp onto the first step and using s six foot ramp to get in from there.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, sightseeing.

We stayed in Avalon on the Bay for 1 week. We wish it could have been longer. We both work long hours and needed the quiet and peace of Avalon. Jim took us out fishing and we had a great time. He even gave us some artificial lures to catch bass with, first time I ever caught fish on artificial bait. What a great time. The cottage was clean and Jim and Diane are great.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/9

Wow! What a trip. This place was exactly what I wanted. Right on the water, beautiful cottage, great atmosphere, and a very very friendly community. We had the best time. The owner made sure that he keyed my sons in on the hot spots for catching fish and even took my sons on a special boat outing. That was definatly going far above renting me his wonderful cottage. Thanks so much to you, Jim and Diana, we needed this and you made us feel like family. We will definatly be back. I think that between myself, my two sons, and the baby (!!), we caught approximately 30-35 fish in 2.5 days. We had a ball......thanks again.Did you find this review helpful? My husband and I stayed at Sandusky on the Bay in an adorable cottage for 1 week. We like it because it was kind of secluded and it wasn't noisy all hours of the night. We had an enjoyable stay and would like to return sometime in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/7
