Somesville is a village located in the heart of Mt. Desert Island. Lupine House is a short walk to the shore, a library, the Acadia Repertory Theatre (acadiarep . com), bank/ATM, Post Office and a convenience market. Free bus service just down the hill is available through the summer to all parts of Mount Desert Island. Lupine House has been lovingly restored and is one of the few remaining village homes retaining its south-facing orientation. It has a broad wraparound porch with an acre of lawn, lupines, perennials, and shrubs and is within easy access by sidewalk to the village and shore front.
The town landing has a dock and beautiful shore front. Publicly called the prettiest village on the island, Somesville is located at the tip of the only Atlantic fjord, opening to a magnificent ocean view. Lupine House, perched on a hillside with peeks of Somes Sound, only adds to Somesville’s reputation for picturesque character and beauty.
Acadia National Park's renowned carriage trail system is ten minutes away. All forms of hiking, running, biking, kayaking, rock climbing, sailing, swimming, tennis, golf, and croquet can be enjoyed by visitors.
There is fine dining in Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor as well as boutique shopping for antiques, art, local artisans, and designer clothing. Mid-October features the MDI Marathon with the finish line in nearby Southwest Harbor. Gorgeous foliage and the "Octoberfest" make Fall a festive time to visit MDI.
When snow falls, cross-country skiing is perfect on the groomed carriage trails of Acadia National Park. Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain, many hiking trails, lakes and ponds for boating and swimming, and Bar Harbor are all nearby.
