Classically Santa Fe with its adobe walls, brick floors, and kiva fireplace, our studio casita is available year round for short-term rental. Its central location in a quiet residential neighborhood is just one block north of Second Street (San Mateo) near Cerrillos Road. The casita is at the end of a dead end street giving it a secluded feel yet with easy access to the growing Second Street neighborhood as well as to the rest of town and the interstate. The Santa Fe Rail Trail is a few blocks away, the Plaza just two miles away, and Museum Hill is even closer.
The casita shares the lot with our home so we are on-site to help with any needs. It has its own off-street parking, a firm, comfortable queen-sized bed, and a well equipped kitchen. It also has a loveseat/sleeper that converts to a twin bed appropriate for an accompanying child. The bathroom is relatively large and light (a clerestory window gives good natural light) and has a combination tub/shower. Electric baseboard heat in the bathroom and a gas wall heater in the main area provide plenty of heat while a working kiva fireplace can be used for heat or just to add cozy, romantic atmosphere (we provide wood). Wireless cable internet is provided. A shaded patio area shared with the main house allows for grilling and outdoor dining.
While the casita is one-story, there is a step from the outside to get in, from the entry and kitchen to the main room, and from the main room to the bathroom. Thus, it is not wheelchair accessible or appropriate for someone with very limited mobility.
Good pets will be considered. Please inform us in advance if you intend to bring a pet.
No smoking is allowed in the casita.
We have a three night minimum. Check in time is 4:00pm and check out is 10:00am (unless other arrangements are made prior to your stay).

About the owner: A love of the mountains brought us to Santa Fe nearly 20 years ago. We have found it to be home. The natural beauty, opportunities for outdoor activities, and diversity of people keep us engaged. Having a vacation rental has introduced us to many varied and interesting people. We enjoy the opportunity to share this 'City Different' with all visitors.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes: I made the rookie mistake of falling in love with this property on first sight. It is hard to negotiate a purchase on that foundation. While the strength and positive presence of the main house was the immediate attractive force, the casita made it workable. We lived in the casita for four and a half years during the renovation of the main house. During that time we learned that it had it's own positive force (our marriage survived a major remodel). While not immediate to Santa Fe's most famous draws, the Plaza and Canyon Road, the feel of neighborhood makes this a wonderful place to actually live.
The Unique Benefits at this House: This casita is in an old Santa Fe neighborhood. While having easy access to the tourist draws of Santa Fe, it is quiet and off the beaten path. As on-property owners we are readily available to answer questions, offer suggestions, and generally try to make your visit as enjoyable as possible.
