Why the Owner Chose Grass Valley

Grass Valley is a relaxing place compared to our home in the Bay Area. We love the trees, fresh air and the many indoor and outdoor activities in the area.

The Unique Benefits at this Victorian House

When we stay at A Victorian Rose, we usually have some work to do to our 100+ year old girl or we tend the small gardens, but we don't mind it at all, because it has such a magical, relaxing atmosphere. Our favorite things to do are get up early and have coffee and talk on the front porch (even when it snows)and in the evening unwinding in the relaxing, warm hot tub.

    • Our family of 6 adults and three very small children ( ages 3, 17 months and 2 months!) really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. As owners of a vacation rental ourselves, we appreciated the obvious love Catherine & Ross have for their home. We were in the area for a wedding, and decided to make it an extended fun family time. We arrived on Friday, July 3 and departed on Monday, July 6. We can certainly reccommend Grass Valley as a great place to spend the 4th of July. Wonderful parade, lots to do in town, and a very easy walk for all. It's a tie for our favorite place - the front porch which was all decorated for America's birthday with the great wicker chairs, or the upstairs "hidden" toy area. There was plenty of room and numerous quiet areas. Nap times were easy to achieve ( for grownups, too!). The house was so quiet, we never even heard the baby at 2:00am. I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a very special getaway.

    • This comment is long overdue. We stayed at the Victorian Rose from June 17 through June 21 of 2009 for our wedding in nearby Alta on June 20. There were 7 of us and it saved us a lot of money and hassle to stay with the Victorian Rose instead of renting out a bunch of rooms at a hotel. The house was absolutely charming! There was a definite energy about the house that was unmistakable from the minute we walked in. We would definitely recommend this home away from home to anyone who might travel to this part of the world. Catherine was very interested in our comfort and was always only a phone call away if anything was needed and even called a couple of times to see how everything was going for us. We even had a small bachelor/bachelorette get together with our traveling companions in the hot tub. I sicerely hope that we get the chance to use this place once again.

    • Fantastic house, amenities & location! We stayed at the house for 3 nights in mid-April (I'm a bit slow in getting this posted). The weather couldn't have been more perfect. This was a 'girls getaway' weekend for 5 of us that have been friends since high school ... and we're now in our late 50s. Catherine, the owner, is very nice, communicative and helpful. Great to deal with! We spent a lot of time on the wonderful front porch chatting & giggling, and fortunately had no complaints from the neighbors. The house is decorated beautifully, with many upgrades to the kitchen. The beds are all comfortable, the spa is *great*. Catherine takes great pride in managing the property for her guests, and has added many thoughtful touches to make your stay as perfect as possible. Thank you for such a wonderful place for us girls to reconnect!

    • Terrific. We had 14 folks (half were teenagers) and loved it. The kids mostly hung out in the seperate detached rec-room (converted garage). The house was clean and the owners were very helpful. All within short walking distance of downtown Grass Valley. The beer steins in the freezer were a nice touch!

    • This vacation home was truly that, a home away from home. My family and I were visiting the area under rather difficult circumstances. We had just lost my grandfather and were in town for the funeral. A Victorian Rose provided a beautiful, calming respite. We were fortunate that a reservation was available for the weekend we needed and Catherine made all the arrangements so easy. Reservations, confirmation, and "check-in" were so smooth. The spacious home provided plenty of room to "get away" when each of us needed our own private time. The game room provided a fun getaway for my 12 year old son. Empire Mine State Park is within walking distance for day hikes and downtown is just a hop/skip/jump...you almost don't need a car once you are there. There was something for everyone!! We all thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful aesthetics of the home, too. It truly was a place that made us feel "at home". I was especially impressed by the kitchen and how wonderfully well stocked it was. I could cook for the family with no worries that I might need to go out and get anything other than food. This vacation home was fabulous and more than I anticipated. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone visiting the area.

    • A more perfect setting could not have been found for the 'sleepover' for a group of highschool friends that all turned 60. We found the house to be truly enchanting, and the blooming dogwoods breath-taking. We all had an incredible time renewing friendships. I highly recommend this charming house to any and all who can enjoy its beauty.

    • What a darling house! Everything written about the home was true, as we explored the house. I really appreciated all the beautiful updating done on your home. Staying here made for the most wonderful weekend. There was room for all to stay and be comfortable. The location was ideal for our wedding in Nevada City and our rehearsal dinner at Goomba's Italian Restaurant soon to open on Colfax Ave. We will certainly be back to your wonderful home!

    • Three small families shared this house for a weekend trip. It was absolutely fantastic! We walked to the market and had all our meals at the house. The kitchen was beautiful and well stocked. Each set of parents had a room, and most of the kids bunked together in a fun room upstairs with toys and a TV. The dads loved the "rec room" and everyone loved the hot-tub. We instantly felt at home and loved everything about the house. We hope to return in the future.

    • We had a wonderful stay at the Victorian Rose for our annual Ladies Christmas Shopping Trip. There were about ten of us, and we enjoyed a wonderful meal together in the home the first night. The kitchen was AMAZINGLY well-stocked and the home had everything we needed. The shopping was fabulous, and many of the ladies in our group (who came from as far as Colorado Springs) said it was the best shopping trip EVER (and we have been doing this for at least 30 years). The snow that fell on our final day was the tip of the iceberg! Thank you so very much!

    • What a wonderful time we had in your beautiful victorian! A very short walk to downtown Grass Valley, great kitchen to prepare meals and chat. We loved just hanging out and felt so comfortable and 'right at home.' The recreation room (separte from the house) was ideal for our four 20-something children. Everyone had a comfortable room and slept great! We enjoyed exploring Neveda City (just a 5-minute drive) and there are plenty of fantastic eateries and coffee shops for everyones taste. It was fun to also go to the local bowling alley for "rock-n-bowl" -- great family fun was had by all. Thanks for sharing your home with us!!!!!
