Why the Owner Chose Grass Valley

Grass Valley is a relaxing place compared to our home in the Bay Area. We love the trees, fresh air and the many indoor and outdoor activities in the area.

The Unique Benefits at this House

When we stay at A Victorian Rose, we usually have some work to do to our 100+ year old girl or we tend the small gardens, but we don't mind it at all, because it has such a magical, relaxing atmosphere. Our favorite things to do are get up early and have coffee and talk on the front porch (even when it snows)and in the evening unwinding in the relaxing, warm hot tub.

October 19, 2007 We enjoyed a girls weekend at Victorian Rose that was fantastic; everyone wants to go back. The house offers every amenity and the location is near to downtown shops and restaurants. The fall colors were spectacular!

A True Victorian Rose!

My friends and I stayed at The Victorian Rose for an extended weekend in Grass Valley to celebrate a wedding at The Empire Mine (1 mile drive to the mine). The home comfortably accommodated couples and single friends alike with multiple bedrooms and single beds in the loft. The house is elegantly decorated with authentic antique style yet still has ALL modern amenities, which made making meals and using vanities comfortable. Most hotels in Grass Valley are over priced without personality; therefore, this was an excellent way to have a bed and breakfast feel with all the comforts of home at a low cost, which made the wedding weekend even more memorable. The spacious home allowed the bridal party to create final touches on wedding decor and then accommodated our pre-wedding get ready party (house has an I-Pod doc as well). None-the-less, we enjoyed the space, the beauty and the memories of our stay. PERFECT for a wedding weekend at The Empire Mine or just a get away to Grass Valley - the town is less than half a mile walk.

Owner response:We try very hard to make our Victorian unique and memorable! We're glad you had a great time!

A Great Location - Wonderful for Gatherings

We rented A Victorian Rose for out-of-town family to stay when our son was getting married at Empire Mine. The location is perfect with ample parking for all the guests. It is centrally located and close to town. The house is absolutely lovely. It was such a great place for our family and friends to gather before and after the wedding. The "man cave" certainly was a hit. Even the bride and groom stayed quite late to hang out with their friends. The home is very well maintained and they have everything to make your stay wonderful. Even better, the owners are terrific! They were very helpful, suggesting places to eat and things to do. By the time our weekend came around, I almost felt like we were friends! The price cannot be beat. So much better than staying at one of the hotels or motels. I would highly recommend staying here!

Owner response:We delight in sharing our wonderful Victorian with families, especially during weddings. We try to treat our guests as if they were our own family! We are less than two miles from Empire Mine and within walking distance of the downtown shops, restaurants and wine tasting, so we love the location too! Please come back again some time!

We had a wonderful time at A Victorian Rose. Its proximity to downtown made everything within walking distance, even the wine tasting rooms. This was the first time we were able to spend three days with our friends because the house was big enough to handle all of us. I would highly recommend A Viictorian Rose to anyone who wants a nice place to stay while in the Grass Valley area. We also enjoyed Nevada City.

Our group loved exploring the Grass Valley area, and looked forward to coming "home" to A Victorian Rose each evening. What a great place to hang out with friends! There are many inviting corners to sit and relax or spend time with others, both inside and out, but we usually found ourselves sitting around the table in the dining room, next to the kitchen so we could pour a drink or find some food. The kitchen was set up perfectly, with anything we needed to cook a meal. Then at bedtime, we could retreat to our own cozy bedrooms. What a perfect place to stay! Thank you.

What a terrific house! Our family of 4 (boys aged 9,13,&17) and our neighbors family of 3(boy aged 10)had a very comfortable stay. The house has everything you need. It was like being at home! We stayed the weekend before Christmas and went to Grass Valley's Cornish Christmas downtown. The house is in such a great location we were easily able to walk downtown and not have to deal with parking. What a perfect setting to get into the Holiday spirit! We also went to the Christmas show at Off-Broadstreet Theatre, a MUST when in the area! The boys hung out in the rec-room and the adults enjoyed wine in the parlor! Perfect! We definitely are planning more trips to the Victorian Rose!

I had the pleasure of staying here with my child while on a business trip. I worked a good part of the day, and the rest was reserved for time with my son. The house is beautiful, centrally located, and very child friendly. We were able to go on walks and experienced many adventures. The location is close to town,& businesses. When I returned to the house each day, my child was kept busy exploring the yard, and the playroom, so I could have meetings in the gorgeous living room. We were close to town, and a short drive to the river & covered bridge. The house was the perfect place to stay, nice and quite, and so much warmer then a hotel. Access to a kitchen was a cost savings, and a great convenience. The owner is a joy, and pleasure. This is the only place I would stay when I return. The house made what could of been a stressful & very busy & drab business trip, manageable and surprisingly enjoyable for myself & my child. The house is so charming, it is easy to shut off the business mind, relax & enjoy the splendor. You can not be stressed in this beautiful & serene location. Thank you so very much for creating such a lovely place for us to temporarily call home.

Our family of 6 adults and three very small children ( ages 3, 17 months and 2 months!) really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. As owners of a vacation rental ourselves, we appreciated the obvious love Catherine & Ross have for their home. We were in the area for a wedding, and decided to make it an extended fun family time. We arrived on Friday, July 3 and departed on Monday, July 6. We can certainly reccommend Grass Valley as a great place to spend the 4th of July. Wonderful parade, lots to do in town, and a very easy walk for all. It's a tie for our favorite place - the front porch which was all decorated for America's birthday with the great wicker chairs, or the upstairs "hidden" toy area. There was plenty of room and numerous quiet areas. Nap times were easy to achieve ( for grownups, too!). The house was so quiet, we never even heard the baby at 2:00am. I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a very special getaway.

This comment is long overdue. We stayed at the Victorian Rose from June 17 through June 21 of 2009 for our wedding in nearby Alta on June 20. There were 7 of us and it saved us a lot of money and hassle to stay with the Victorian Rose instead of renting out a bunch of rooms at a hotel. The house was absolutely charming! There was a definite energy about the house that was unmistakable from the minute we walked in. We would definitely recommend this home away from home to anyone who might travel to this part of the world. Catherine was very interested in our comfort and was always only a phone call away if anything was needed and even called a couple of times to see how everything was going for us. We even had a small bachelor/bachelorette get together with our traveling companions in the hot tub. I sicerely hope that we get the chance to use this place once again.

Fantastic house, amenities & location! We stayed at the house for 3 nights in mid-April (I'm a bit slow in getting this posted). The weather couldn't have been more perfect. This was a 'girls getaway' weekend for 5 of us that have been friends since high school ... and we're now in our late 50s. Catherine, the owner, is very nice, communicative and helpful. Great to deal with! We spent a lot of time on the wonderful front porch chatting & giggling, and fortunately had no complaints from the neighbors. The house is decorated beautifully, with many upgrades to the kitchen. The beds are all comfortable, the spa is *great*. Catherine takes great pride in managing the property for her guests, and has added many thoughtful touches to make your stay as perfect as possible. Thank you for such a wonderful place for us girls to reconnect!
