Visitors soon wind down & relax on Hawai'ian time up here in beautiful Waiakea Uka. A sweet 15 minute drive from Hilo airport, you'll wind up the hills through neat ranches scattered with cattle, horses, sheep & goats. Mauna Kea at 14,000 ft stands beautiful above the pastures. Our home is located in a small private subdivision of three+acre homesteads. At a perfect 1200 ft elevation, you'll enjoy warm tropical days & delightfully cool nights year round. Nighttime rains usually ending before dawn, keep our hillsides green. 'Noelani's Nest'is facing due East, for gorgeous sunrises above the ocean from your comfortable bed complete with luxury linens: 400 count sheets & snuggly down quilts, too.
Your 1100 sq ft, brand new, custom home has two large bedrooms: the master with a king-sized bed, the other with a full bed and 2 twin beds. We have a port-a-crib for your tiny one. Clean & crisp with breezy tropical decor, your house has a well- appointed kitchen, bathroom and large shower, spacious living & dining area, & a covered ocean view lanai that will make you feel right at home in paradise.
At 'Noelani’s Nest,' you can wander down quiet country roads, zip to town for a swim, or just sit on your lanai & snooze under your straw hat. Open your eyes & take in the stunning 180’ view of the blue ocean, with Hilo town sparkling on the bay. Gazing out to sea has a way of renewing the spirit, no matter the season. We will try our best to make sure you fully experience the ALOHA SPIRIT during your visit to our hometown!
You can borrow a friendly dog to walk, or visit Merlin the Llama in his pasture. Our pet dwarf Nigerian goats may beg you for a treat from their food bin. Our happy hens keep the eggs coming, and Noe's honey bees are busy in their hive.
Wander through the hillside landscape full of exotic flowers, rare palms, & unique plants. David has built our home as well as Noe's Nest, and designed and planted our gardens over the last 12 years. An amateur horticulturist, David is available to walk you through the gardens, point out interesting species, and explain plant culture at your request. He is also a master bowl turner, creating bowls from rare tropical hardwoods found on the Big Island.
Relax in an armchair by one of 2 waterlily ponds, or bask in the sun on your recliner with a cool drink. Get active,or be lazy, as the spirit moves you! Breakfast on sweet apple bananas & papayas available every day at the Hilo outdoor market on Bayfront. Pick a fragrant gardenia for your bedside, or your hair. We've found no jewel can match the beauty of a fresh gardenia.
Nights are especially peaceful at 'Noelani's Nest.' The velvet black of the Pacific night shows off Hawai'i's heavens and the Milky Way at their most stunning. Gaze up & enjoy the stars from home, or drive to Mauna Kea's Onizuka Center for a 'star party' at 9000 ft any dark night of the year.
If you like privacy, you have all you want. 'Noelani's Nest' is a private hideaway for honeymooners. As longtime residents, we can guide you to the special places that make the Big Island such a renewable resource of great times for residents and visitors alike. You're only a short drive from all the amazing variety that East Hawaii has to offer, yet conveniently close to your quiet home away from home. Hilo is a unique and charming tropical town, and great for walking.
Enjoy dinner out at one of our variety of wonderful restaurants, or pick up a steak or fish and grill it after a day out, while you kick back and enjoy the sunset. There is always time to relax after a day at Volcanoes National Park, the Botanical Gardens, or a day trip up the beautiful Hamakua coastline to Waimea or beyond.
Your children are welcome at our house: kids of all ages seem to come back again and again to visit 'Noelani's Nest!
If you need health resources, we can refer you. Nora, RN, MSN, CNS works at Hilo Medical Center 15 minutes down in town. Her schedule varies, but you can contact her at 808-896-6335 if you have questions or need directions to our home.

What do you want for a honeymoon? We wanted a place to relax, be alone and only come out when we felt like it. Noe's Nest was perfect. We were welcomed, then no one bothered us. The country was lovely, the temperature wonderful, and the nights cool and cozy. Wow. The best place for our honeymoon was right here at Noe's Nest. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? ..is something we'll remember forever. Those tiny White Eye birds and the pretty green finches, and the sassy brightCardinal family!Really just loved hanging out on the lanai, morning, noon and night. Hard to get tired of that experience...its something I'll not see in Ireland. Your house is beautiful, comfortable and extremely clean. Love the bright colors of the walls, like looking at beautiful flower petals. We hope to come back soon! ALoha to Dave and Nora!~Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We sure enjoyed our stay here in Hilo at Noe's Nest....a great place to access Volcano, the Puna area, and sights in Hilo. Our favorites were Lava Tree Park, the snorkeling in the Kapoho tide pools, and hiking Kilauea Iki Crater. Noe's Nest is a lovely, restful home base for all these excursions, and wonderful to come home to!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: Noe's Nest sits on a lushly landscaped 3 acre lots above Hilo on the gorgeous green and blue windward coast of the Big Island. Noe's Nest features a 180' view of the coast from Hilo Bay to Kapoho lighthouse. David built our home in 1999, and built Noe's Nest nearby in 2006, so others could enjoy the beauty and serenity of our unique Waiakea Uka home. Dave is builder/landscaper and an amateur horticulturalist, specializing in rare palms and hardwoods. He is also a master bowl maker, lathed from Big Island trees. Nora is a Psychiatric APRN at Hilo Medical Center, who loves orchids and flowering plants, and ponds. We have 3 young adult children who love to visit their home too whenever they are able. All of us love animals; we have friendly cats, dogs, Nigerian goats, and Merlin our llama, the king of his herd. Please come and enjoy Noe's Nest for a great East Hawaii vacation! Kids of all ages love Noe's Nest. Here we are: Nora, Malia(26), Dave, Noe (21)...Josh (32) behind the camera.
Why the Owner Chose Hilo:
At 1200 feet elevation, it is a perfect climate: breezy, tropical and on the mountainside of Mauna Kea, it is simply one of the most lovely and dreamlike places anyone could imagine to live in. A mile from the Hilo Watershed and the top of Ainaola Drive, we have a beautiful quiet country road to walk, under tall eucalyptus trees. The views of the ocean and forests is stunning, and peaceful. The small private road has good neighbors and friends. We built a vacation rental so we could share this experience with others of like interests.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Convenient to Hilo and East Hawaii it is 15 sweet minutes to Hilo, and close too the fabulous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, snorkeling at Kapoho, trips to North Hawaii and South point as well. Hilo is a unique tropical post-Victorian era town, with a feeling of leisure and wonderful food, music, markets, sports, birds, fabrics, art, history, plants, fresh fruits and vegetables, and hundreds of miles of gorgeous coastline vistas that can be enjoyed at a quiet pace.
