We stayed at Noe's Nest for a few days in March. We were surprised at how spacious and beautiful this home is - the photos do not do it justice. It has everything you could possibly need - even pets! - beautifully decorated, with a big, comfortable lanai with a great view. It was peaceful, private, and quiet - the perfect retreat. Thank you Norah and Dave, for being such gracious hosts.
Owner response:Hello Dorothy! We're so glad you enjoyed yourselves here! It gives us enjoyment to see our guests having a relaxing vacation in this beautiful place we are fortunate enough to live in. And glad the house had everything you needed! Please come back and visit us again! Aloha, Nora & David

We just stayed at Noe's Nest from January 18-March 1, 2012. The house was nice and clean, well organized and had a full kitchen. Our privacy was respected but either Dave or Nora were always available to us. The house's location is great for exploring Hilo and the rest of the island. You will definitely need a car. The pets were a welcome addition and were there to greet us morning and night. The dishwasher was a welcome addition and the big shower was a delight. Though there were just two of us, the house is big enough for lots of people. I can't think of one downside to this property. Hilo has some great restaurants and more attractions on this island than you will be able to see unless you move there. We especially enjoyed the nearby Imiloa Museum and astronomy center. We saw lots of 3-D planetarium shows while there. If you plan to go back more than once, buy a membership. It more than pays for itself. They also have a fantastic restaurant there. The active volcano is about 23 miles south of Hilo and an easy drive. There are just so many places to have a picnic. We enjoyed lots of them as we packed a lunch and set out for the day. Dave and Nora have provided a lot of information in books and pamphlets in the house and they came in handy as we explored. Days were warm and nights pleasant with night time rain forest sounds coming in the windows. The house is secluded but close to everything in Hilo.
Owner response:Gordon & Joyce thank you so much for staying at Noe's Nest. We're very happy you enjoyed your stay! Of course, all the animals are sad you've gone home, especially because they aren't getting all those treats you provided! Hope you come back soon!

I am writing this on our last full night here. The house has had everything to make our stay here just like home (only better). If I needed something and it wasn't here, Nora or Dave promptly provided it. (I mean odd things like bread pans!)The pets added to our enjoyment, as we missed our own who are 6,000 miles away. Hilo has lots of places to explore and the whole island was our playground for nearly 6 weeks. I think you'll love it here.

Nora and Dave, thanks for a wonderful 8 days at your lovely cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Hilo and our stay with you folks. Everything was immaculately clean, perfectly laid out, cosy, comfortable, tasteful and homely, every little thing that could add to our comfort was taken care of in meticulous detail. So many reviews of other places make mention of roaches being an ever-present feature in homes on the Big Island, we were almost apprehensive. Now we're wondering what that was about because we didn't spot a single one at your place - we're sure that's not because there aren't any around, but because you keep your place so spotlessly clean. Hawaii is such a charming place to visit and returning to your nest evenings was the perfect way to finish each day spent taking in the breathtaking sights and beauty everywhere around. Loved having your dogs and cat around, particularly Augie the daschund, - he is such a sweet, well-behaved little chap. We look forward to returning to the Big Island soon, and we would love to stay with you folks again.
Owner response:Hi Sushil! Thanks very much for you detail review of Noe's Nest. It is wonderful to hear how much you and your family enjoyed it here! Recently we have a new baby goat: Sweetpea! I hope you can return someday with your darling little boy. ALoha, Nora & David

Our family of 4 (husband, wife, 2 daughters, and small dog) stayed at Noe's Nest for 3 months. The location was ideal--easy access to everything in Hilo (20 min drive to downtown), Volcano, the beaches, Hamakua coast, but removed so that we had quiet evenings and mornings. Plus, there are nearby public tennis courts, Zumba classes, and more. We loved the view of the Pacific (beautiful sunrises!) and the surrounding small ranches. The property has beautiful trees and flowers, and our daughters fed and watered the goats and llama daily! new chicks were another fun treat! We had enough space for me to use as a home office, my wife to home school our daughters, and not feel on top of each other. The house was clean, nice, and comfortable; well designed open space; the kitchen was just what we needed (we cooked most meals at home). N &D tried to meet any request, providing a grill, a boogie board, touring suggestions, etc. We plan to return next year for a vacation.
Owner response:Hello Jon, Perri & your beautiful daughters... Dave & I are SO glad you came to stay at Noe's Nest for the Spring months! It was a wonderful time with you visiting and enjoying our little piece of paradise. As I listen to the palm fronds whispering...I'm thinking of all of you. We look forward to the return of our good friends in April this year! And you will get to see Noe, of Noe's Nest fame! Love, Nora & Dave.

Nora & Dave - thank you so much for letting us use your home as our base for our time in Hilo. We so enjoyed the nest - including all of the animals. It was nice to have them waiting for us in the morning, and then come greet us when we returned in the evening. Your nest is quite off the beaten path - which for us was wonderfully relaxing. All the comforts of home. We were very happy we decided to stay here - and when we are back in Hilo, we'll be back. My niece fell in love with your stubby legged little orange kitty. He was so shy at first, but then became her best friend (maybe the treats helped!). Thank you again. You have a beautiful home.
Owner response:Hello Traci! Many thanks for coming to Noe's Nest to visit....I feel very grateful to have met you and your mom! Just very happy that Noe's Nest fit just right for you! Please come again...Aloha, Nora & Dave

We stayed at Noe's Nest in 2010 and 2011 and absolutely loved it. Dave and Nora are wonderful - and so is everything on their property. Noe's Nest is an exceptionally clean and very tastefully furnished house that has everything a traveler might need - and more. The last time we were there, Nora was just putting the finishing touches on Malia's Midnight Mile, the newest addition to their enterprise in paradise. If a whole cottage is a bit much for you, you might consider staying at this newest addition: One bedroom and one living room, breakfast included, very affordable, perfect for couples or parents who travel alone with their child. Nora and Dave are such wonderful people and I love their place so much, that I will never stay anywhere else when on the big Island. We will stay at the Nest whenever we travel as a family, and I will stay at the Mile whenever I travel alone with my daughter.

Noe's nest is decorated, furnished and maintained to an extremely high standard and the owner and her pets and very welcoming! There are local shops and restaurants nearby and Kileaua is about a 30-40 minute drive away. The accommodation sits in a tropical location surrounded by trees and plants. Rainfall seemed fairly common in the evening as was the chorus of frogs/insects. If you want to relax or explore the east of the island this will make the ideal base. The property is family friendly and it contains pretty much all you need for a self-catering holiday. Excellent directions to property from owner.

Hello Friends and potential visitors to Noe's Nest... We have a guestbook in the Nest for our visitors to leave us their thoughts and comments. I am proud that, for 3 years, we only had 1 dissatisfied couple...but I guess some people would complain even if they were in God's pocket.(And I do think that Noe's Nest is probably pretty close to God's pocket.) I will let you read the notes that I have copied VERBATIM from our visitor's and hopefully they will help you decide if this is the place you would like to visit! We hope to meet you soon....the only thing missing is the great drawings by the children who have loved our pets! Aloha, Nora Waters

What a gorgeous setting! After two beach stays on other parts of the Islands, we were astonished by the beauty and lushness of the landscaping of Noe's Nest. The atmosphere was fantastic! I felt like I was in "true" Hawaii. Loved being greeted by the animals each morning. This is the perfect base to explore the east side of the island in comfort. How thoughtful of Nora to provide thick jackets for our trek to Mauna Kea for a stargazing party. Who wants to pack something like this for an island vacation? No worries...Nora and Dave anticipated all our needs and also told us about special snorkeling spots. Don't miss the chance to see the lava flow at night, Kaumana Caves, Hilo's rainforest zoo and Waipi'o Valley with the most gorgeous black sand beach you will ever see! I will not hesitate to stay here again when I return. On my last night, I finally made it up the mountain without making any wrong turns! Mahalo!

I just stayed at this rental house outside of Hilo from late June to early July 2008. The house was a great base of operations for exploring all the natural wonders on the east side of the Big Island. The house is about 1200 ft above sea level and there was a constant breeze, so even on hot days the house stayed cool. On clear days you could see Hilo and the ocean in the distance from the lanai. Star gazing was fantastic from the house on clear nights. It rained only two or three times in 10 days, and mainly at night and it was fairly sunny most days. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly as were their many animals. I would recommend this for anyone wanting to explore the east side of the Island.

Dear Nora and Dave-- Thanks so much for NOE'S NEST--Frank and I have been to Hawaii quite a few times and always loved it--but THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE FELT LIKE WE LIVED HER! The house was great, very well equipped and stocked. Comfortable and perfoect for the whole family. I'm a gardener/horticulturist and what a surprise to see the great gardens and fabulous palms. From the time that we arrived late at night, when we were welcomed by the animals to now as we are packing to leave, our stay in Hilo has been wonderful. We loved having the animals around; our granddaughter Ruth (3 1/2) especially loved Augie and Mr. Crooked Ears (Mr. Poopie Toes). Mahalo and best wishes for all that you do-- Jane and Frank Giblin, Sr. ____________________ Dear Nora and Dave, Had a great time and enjoyed all the animals. Merlin only spit at me twice! Great weather and VIEWS. Best of luch Nora with your child Psychology degree. Jane and I are off to Kona for a week--the rest of the clan head home. Aloha, Frank Sr. ________________________ Dear Nora and Dave, This is from me, Ruth. I liked the beaches and the palm trees--I liked the dogs because they lick me so much and I like their names. I like the kitty cats because they play so much except when Mr. PT nips! Now I'm sad because we're going home! Love, Ruth (age 3 1/2) ________________________________ Dear Nora & Dave, I feel bad that I never really got to talk to you during the week we were here, but I feel like I know you somewhat through your gardens and animals and home! We enjoyed the time to be together as a family and to explore your island here! Thanks for being so accomodating to our little one! We felt loved and cared for in Noe's Nest. Mahalo and Aloha, Lori Giblin ___________________________ To my untrained eye the stars seems as bright outside yhour back door as the Mauna Kea Visitor Center at 9000 ft! I enjoyed the restful time here and looking for lizards around the yard. Using a compass on the facket sleeve (star-gazer's coats) I found bearing 40' to the radio tower and 100' to the light house at Kapoho from the lanai. Will try to find your house on the map, and maybe Google Earth. Thanks, Michael Giblin
