Imagine this...you are sitting in the jungle, the trees are huge, towering above you, the forest is alive with the chatter of birds and insects, big blue butterflies glide lazily around you. The air is damp and smells like the earth after a good rain. You are connected to the nature around you, at peace...tranquil.
This is how you will feel when you stay at Casa Pericos (House of Parrots). A wonderful two story four bedroom A-frame house nestled among the mango, papaya, lemon trees and many coconut palms. Sitting on two and a half rolling hillside acres of tropical splendor, you are alone with the birds, butterflies, iguanas and howler monkeys. You are one with nature. Although Casa Pericos is very private, it is a mere five minute downhill walk to Carrillo Beach ... a spectacular 3 kilometer long white sand beach lined with coconut palms and warm, gentle surf without a single man-made structure to spoil the tropical splendor. Playa Carrillo is considered one of the prettiest beaches in all of Costa Rica. The three kilometer long crescent bay is protected by an offshore coral reef which keeps the waves small and is wonderful for families with children. Several sportfishing yachts and local fisherman"pangas" rest peacefully in the harbor. It is a popular beach for sunbathing, surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking, surf fishing and enjoying the good life. It is also the place to be when the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean... a brilliant, magical experience!
The house offers views from every room overlooking either the beach and ocean or the mountains and jungle and features two and a half bathrooms with hot water, a newly remodeled gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances and all rooms are equipped with variable speed ceiling and floor fans.
WIRELESS BROADBAND DSL INTERNET IS AVAILABLE FOR OUR GUESTS' USE AT CASA PERICOS! You also can get excellent local and international cell phone service since the antenna tower sits on an adjacent hillside visible from our front deck.
MODERN IN-ROOM AIR CONDITIONING WAS ADDED IN 2009 IN ALL FOUR BEDROOMS, all with remote temperature controls.
From our large covered deck and patio overlooking the mangroves in front of Carrillo beach, you can observe flocks of parrots (yellow naped amazons and smaller orange fronted parakeets), motmots, trogons, kiskadees and an array of different birds flying by at any given moment. In the mangroves below, the crescendo of birds, frogs, crickets and other creatures is quite melodious. At night you can sit and watch the bats zipping around your head, devouring the unsuspecting insects, see the geckos scampering after moths and chirping loudly for mates, and in the distance watch the blinking lights of the fire flies. Howler monkeys, racoons, coatis and iguanas regularly visit the property. The longer you sit, the louder everything becomes.
Hungry? A few minutes walk up the hill and you're in the center of town. Carrillo is a quaint little fishing village which hosts several good restaurants, three little grocery/liquor stores, and world class game and sportfishing. For something a little more happening, take a ten minute bus or cab ride to the town center of adjacent Samara beach, which features many restaurants and nightspots, surfing and language schools, two grocery stores, a butchery, several fish and seafood markets, a bank/ATM, local doctors, a pharmacy, tourist shops, three internet cafes and varied sports rentals and excursions along its seven kilometer long white sand beachfront.

Why the Owner Chose Samara
We considered many beach communities in Costa Rica but chose Playa Carrillo because of its unique charm as a small native fishing village that overlooks the most beautiful and completely undeveloped white sand and palm-line beach in the country. It is a very friendly community and Carrillo Bay has a very gentle sloping sand bottom protected by an offshore reef and a beautiful offshore island. The daily sunsets over the Bay and the Pacific Ocean are truly spectacular and are available nightly from our covered front deck. The Carrillo area seems more tropical and native than the more northern and congested Pacific tourist locations and is blessed with cooling breezes from the ocean and mountains. Our home is uniquely very private on its own 2 1/2 tropical acres overlooking the sea.

My wife and I stayed here with my brother and sister-in-law and could not have found anything better. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for. We are not the all inclusive types and like to cook and be independent of the hotel/resort crowds and this house was perfect. The view of the beach and ocean from the deck while sitting on the hammocks, watching the monkeys in the nearby trees and watching an occasional airplane land at the nearby airport.......great views! The house was very neat and kept and we always felt safe at night. If staying here, we highly recommend paying the house keeper to cook for you! The dinner we had her cook for us one night was the best meal of the trip and truly made us feel like a local. We would recommend, however, that no more than 3 couples (6 people) stay together at a time. There are 4 bedrooms, but we felt that there would have been enough room only for one other couple without feeling like we were all on top of eachother. If you are looking for a relaxing, away-from-the-crowd vacation, this needs to be at the top of your list (you will need a rental car). We plan on coming back many times in the future.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
