Location: Kensington & Chelsea, London, England, United Kingdom, Europe
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 5)
This charming 3-story house is on a quiet mews just off Eccleston Street and two blocks from the King's Road.
A mews is a small narrow lane, usually cobblestoned, that used to be where horses and carriages were sheltered. They are behind larger houses. Mews are quiet areas with much charm and atmosphere. Mews houses are now highly prized.
Enter the house directly into an large room that serves as the dining room. A glass-topped iron table seats 6 comfortably. Walls are patterned wallpaper over ochre wainscoting. The room hs interesting art and objets d'art.
Walk through the dining room into the bright modern kitchen. It has glass-fronted cupboards and sleek marble counter tops. There's a large refrigerator/freezer, a stainless steel oven and hood, microwave and a built-in cappuccino machine! The arched window over the sink lets in lots of light.
A small, nice guest powder room is tucked under the stairs that lead up to the next floor. The washer/dryer is in the powder room.
The sitting room is upstairs. It's a large and gracious room that has a comfortable sofa and two easy chairs, a wall of books, a gas fireplace, an Oriental rug over beige carpet and art and personal touches create a cozy feeling.
There is a TV, DVD player and a CD player. Beautiful red and gold drapes dress the tall windows that look out onto the mews. French doors open onto a tiny balcony. A small alcove has a bay window with a table in front of it and two chairs. New flat screen TVs have just been added to this room and the master bedroom.
A small study has a comfortable and attractive sofa chair (like a sofa bed, but for one person), a desk with a leather top of red and gold top, bookcases, a computer, a phone and high speed internet. Walls are covered with a rich green on green design.
The bedrooms are up another level.
The master bedroom has a queen bed, attractive furniture and art, a large window. Colors are beige and white with green and red on the window fabric. It is a simple room and very nice. The large en suite bathroom has a deep tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower stall.
The other bedroom has twin beds, antique oak furniture and excellent closet space. Colors are red and blue. The en suite bathroom has tub with a hand-held shower.
Up another level, a low door opens onto a roof terrace. It has many potted plants and outdoor furniture. There's a small refrigerator just inside the door and a cupboard that holds a dining service for 8. The terrace is a lush and beautiful environment that has views of roof tops and chimneys. It is a green oasis - even in winter when we took these photos.

We've rented through VRBO in places like Paris, Montreal, New York, La Jolla and Palm Springs and have always been impressed with the "jewels" we found. This mews house is clearly one of the shiniest of those jewels and more than exceeded our expectations. If you have a family touring London and are there for awhile, this is the place to go. Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 school-aged children) stayed here for two weeks in June. This is a PERFECT family home for exploring and enjoying London. We enjoyed absolutely everything about it. The overall feel of the flat is gracious, spacious and comfortable with modern touches thrown in (e.g., hi-speed wifi, flat screen TVs, espresso machine, etc.). The rooftop terrace was a 'dream spot' for lunch or dinner or just chilling out on those occasions when London weather cooperated. The location was beyond superb: SAFE even in the late evenings, easy walk to Victoria Station and Sloane Square even for our 5 year old, around the corner from Margaret Thatcher's house & Buckingham Palace!, Hyde Park about 15 minutes walk away. The kitchen was superbly equipped and we were able to cook any meal we wanted in (big Sainsbury's only a 1 mile walk away). Beds were very comfortable and the master bathroom, with jetted tub and separate shower, was a nice retreat after a day of sightseeing. I really cannot give enough accolades to this. While it will might expensive to Americans with our weak dollar, if you have 4 or 5 in your family and start to compare the cost of suites or double hotel rooms in this part of London and you figure out all that you are getting with this place, you'll see the value. -Patrick, Scottsdale, AZ
