Welcome to our Manuel Antonio home, a fully-staffed, 5-bedroom, 5-bath luxury Villa and Guest House in an unusually private and beautiful setting bordering the 50-meter Maritime Protection Zone. The Villa and Guest House are perched high above the Pacific, with ever present sea breezes and sounds of surf crashing below. Our beach (Playa la Macha), which is usually deserted, is just a 10-minute walk from the Villa. Ours is the only residence in Manuel Antonio with a cove all to itself and one of the few close enough to the water to hear the surf crashing against the rocks.
The views of the ocean and sunset from the Villa are breathtaking. Wildlife and tropical flowers abound on our property and in the surrounding rainforest. Monkeys, countless birds, and an occasional sloth are regular visitors to nearby trees and are easily spotted from the Villa or our terraces and swimming pool.
Without question the Villa's finest amenity is its staff. Jamie and Cecilia provide full housekeeping, concierge, maintenance, gardening and laundry services seven days a week and will cook authentic Costa Rican dishes for you every day. Fresh fish caught daily, quality meats and delicious tropical fruits are plentiful in the local markets. All staff services are included in the rental price.
The house is of the finest construction in teak, cedar, almond, and terra cotta, all sited in beautiful landscaped grounds. Each bedroom has a view, a king or queen bed, its own bathroom, and a writing desk. Two of the bedrooms have their own living areas, in addition to the bright and breezy main living space.
Villa La Macha is located in one of Costa Rica's most beautiful coastal areas, Quepos and Manuel Antonio. An almost endless string of secluded coves and tropical beaches and the charming, well-supplied town of Quepos are minutes away. Five miles down the road is a jewel of this ecologically sensitive country, Manuel Antonio National Park. The waters offshore offer some of the best marlin and sailfish sport fishing in the world. Villa La Macha is handsomely furnished in teak furniture and original artworks and provides a beautiful home for families, small wedding parties, and groups of friends to share. We have two small children, so we can provide anything from cribs to puzzles.
We live in the house six weeks per year and continuously maintain it to our very high standards. We have added all the amenities you could want for a perfect vacation, including fine sheets, towels and china, our favorite spa shampoos and soaps, a Bose Wave stereo, DirecTV, a fax, two phone lines, a library of 150 of our favorite books, and a booklet we wrote recommending for our guests our favorite restaurants, beaches, masseuses, fishing charters, white water river trips, surf spots, surf instructors, zip lines, hikes, nightspots, spanish tutors, and nannies.

Why the Owner Chose Manuel Antonio
After living inland for years we wanted to be right next to the ocean - to see it, hear it, smell it, all the time. We wanted to be close to nature, away from civilization and yet be able to get a good latte without driving too far. And we wanted to live in a Spanish-speaking country that was safe, with clean water and good health care. Manuel Antonio fit the bill.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa
It's really two - the house and the people. Our staff has been with us since 1999. Jota, the manager, actually helped build Villa La Macha. They are kind, caring people who work so hard to make our guests feel welcome. And the house is magical. The ocean views just stun us every time we arrive - then the monkeys come by, or a morpho butterfly flits along, we take an open-air shower looking into the jungle, and we know we are back in paradise.
This beautiful and secluded beach is just a 10-minute walk through the jungle from our house. While all beaches are public in Costa Rica, this beach is usually deserted.
The town of Quepos, with restaurants and bars and shopping, is about a mile away.
About a mile away, Manuel Antonio is the heart of the hotel and restaurant district. Most vacation rentals are crowded in here.
The main public beach, with beach chairs and umbrellas, surfing lessons and jet skis and kayak rentals, is about 3 miles from us.
This beach is perfect for little kids, as its cove-like setting means there are never any waves. This is a very popular family beach in the area and is about 2 miles from our house.

We lived at Villa La Macha with our young children in 2000 and 2001. Since then we visit as much as we can! As our children have gotten older they discover a new aspect of the area and the people with each visit. We have become very involved with the local community and look forward with each trip to visiting the schools, library, and community center we have helped support over the years.

We had a fabulous family trip here. The staff was phenomenal, and we loved the option to have someone cook in the house. It is very close to all the activities we wanted to do, yet felt very secluded.

I was recommending this place for a friend and just noticed that I never wrote a review on this site. The nine of us comfortably stayed there in 2009 and enjoyed every minute of it. The house was beautiful and the views and surrounding animal life amazing but by far the best part of the place was the staff. Jota and Cecilia made us welcome from the start. The service and food were fabulous and us two moms remarked that it was truly our first real vacation where we got to just relax and not worry about the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Thank you for a great vacation and I can't wait to go back!
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

House and staff were amazing. House was very private but close to town for people that like action. All tours picked us up at the end of the road which made it easy for us to choose more than one activity for a day. All our activities were booked by the staff which made things effortless because we didn't need to research. The staff cooked, cleaned and did laundry so it was a true vacation. We saw monkeys daily, a sloth, iguanas, lizards, bats, ang frogs without leaving the house. The deck faces the west so sunsets over the water made for a daily must see. Some of our party never left the house once they arrived.
