Wonderful Lake Huron View

This cottage has the most beautiful view of Lake Huron imaginable. The setting is quiet and we spent a lot of time relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake and Bois Blanc Island. We made use of the two kayaks, and on one clear day, paddling out some distance into the lake, had an unexpected view of the Mackinac Bridge. The outdoor area has a fire pit, hammock and small beach area with several chairs. There is a screened tent where we ate one evening when we cooked on the grill. Inside the cottage, the living room is the most pleasant place to hang out, with plenty of seating, coffee tables and desk, and has windows and sliding-glass doors that overlook the lake. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and tableware. The bedrooms were small, but cute and had chests of drawers for folded clothing and space for hanging clothes. What looked to have been once darker paneling had been given a quick, shabby-chic sort of whitewashing, which lightened it up and made for more of a cottage than cabin feel. The amenities were as stated in the description and the weekly rate was on par with similar lakefront properties. We spent our time swimming, hiking, reading, playing music, cooking and relaxing. The swimming and kayaking are great, but you’ll need to wade through the shallow, rocky area to deeper water for swimming. Be sure to bring flip-flops or water shoes for this. My solution was to walk out in flip-flops, and then slide them onto a nylon belt while swimming, so as to have them to wade back to shore afterward. This may vary from year to year, due to lake water levels. There is a great hiking/biking path nearby that extends from Mackinaw City to Grayling, and the property included bikes. The house doesn’t have WiFi, but it is available free at the nearby library in Cheboygan. Cheboygan is a pleasant city with the features of a small town. Mackinaw City is about 14 miles away and is worth a drive to the see the glorious Mackinac Bridge or to take a trip to the island. Mackinaw City has the usual tourist features, including restaurants, shopping, etc. This property is great for adults and for families. Aside from the outdoor activities, what we enjoyed most of all during our stay was just sitting on the balcony enjoying the beautiful lake view in such a serene setting.
