My boyfriend and I spent a few days here. The cottage had everything we needed and Santa Cruz had the slow, easygoing vibe we sought to relax. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

My wife and I and our two kids had a great time in this charming little cottage in Santa Cruz. It was pretty tight quarters for a family of four but we made it work. The place is artfully decorated and extremely well appointed--it even has a washer and dryer. The back patio -- and the front yard -- are full of all manner of beautiful plants and flowers. My wife and I both immediately thought we would love to have our parents stay at this place. As newbies to the area, it was helpful that the owners had folders full of menus to help us sort through local restaurants. And the place was super tidy. My very favorite thing about this place is that we can walk across a field right to the Santa Cruz landmark Lighthouse Beach. If we were to go up to Santa Cruz again, we wouldn't hesitate to check this place's availability first.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

My two daughters and I had a very relaxing stay at Watercolour Cottage over spring break. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The colorful decor added such charm and cheerfulness to the lovely setting. We very much enjoyed the private backyard and great location. Walks to the boardwalk and bike rides on the nearby bike path were among our activities. I would definitely stay here again. My only suggestion would be that the pull-out sofa come with better supplies - sheets, etc. Great DVD collection too.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your review and we are so pleased that you and your daughters had a relaxing time at Watercolour Cottage and enjoyed this quintessential beach town during spring break! We are genuinely concerned and consistently available for any questions or needs a guest might have. We have found that in the past some guests occasionally overlook some of the storage features of the cottage and wonder if perhaps that might be the case in this instance as the bedding supplies for the twin sofa sleeper and extra mattress are numerous and of new quality. We look forward to your return to the cottage and thank you again for the lovely review!

Was visiting Santa Cruz to catch up with friends and do some surfing. The property is simply amazing inside. Small, but it has everything you need to be totally comfortable and relaxed, and it's all in great working order. Lots of towels and cozy bedding, wonderfully equipped kitchen, games, movies, beach chairs, etc. The gardens are beautiful and there's a fire pit and BBQ to enjoy. And it's just a short walk to the beach and Steamers Lane surf break. Was only there a few days but would go back for much longer next time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We love everything about Watercolour Cottage. Perfect cheery decor, artistically inspired, sooooo comfortable! The bed is extremely comfortable, with nice high thread count sheets. The kitchen was nice, but grilling outside on the gas grill was even better! The outdoor patio is a great hideaway, complete with an orange tree full of juicy fruit! We always prefer to rent houses when we travel, and we would absolutely choose to stay in this one again if we return to Santa Cruz. Also, the house includes bookshelves full of books about the area. What a great plus! Walking distance to the beach...the walks are well worth it.Owner response: Thank you for the beautiful review! We are so happy to know you enjoyed your stay and the orange juice from the patio tree! I am especially thrilled you perused the books, it is always a treat for me to find a new book for our guests to discover! Happy memories from our guests mean so very much. Denise & Glenn

This is a very belated review...my apologies! We stayed at the Watercolour Cottage for 6 nights in Sept with our then 13 month old. It was our first trip with our son and I was very nervous about traveling with him. The cottage was the perfect place to stay! There were plenty of great day trips in the area and we cooked or got delicious take out at night when our little guy went to bed early. Denise and Glenn's attention to detail is superb. They provided towels, umbrella, beach toys, and even great floppy hats for our excursions to the beach. They were gracious enough to give us a tour of their gardens which are amazing. There is such charm in the cottage that you immediately feel at home. All of my anxiety about traveling with a 13 month old evaporated upon our arrival...that, in and of itself, was priceless! Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: What a heartfelt surprise to read your delightful review today, 4 months later! To hear about your first traveling experience with your little boy, brought big smiles to us. We remember you and your friends from Oregon who came to visit you at "your cottage", what a pleasure to have met you all. Thank you so much for the memories of your visit and sharing this with us and future guests. Cheers!

From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The Watercolour Cottage is exactly as it is in the photos - cozy, warm and comfortable. With just a short walk through Lighthouse State Field, we were on West Cliff overlooking the Monterey Bay for a lovely walk. We were able to relax on the patio in the afternoon and visit with our family. This was our first experience staying in a vacation rental and we couldn't have been happier. It was definitely a Thanksgiving to remember.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This was our first VRBO experience, and the Watercolour Cottage set the bar very high. The small home has everything you need for a great vacation. We were only there for 2 nights, but the 3 of us (husband, 13 year-old son and me) would have been comfortable for an entire week. Because of the spacious and beautifully landscaped back patio (even had a full-sized ping pong table), the cottage felt much larger than it is. The neighborhood location of Watercolour is ideal - friendly, welcoming neighbors in a residential location rather than a "tourist" spot; short walk to the beach and West Cliff Drive trail; and a moderate walk to the Boardwalk. The cottage is well appointed with all your kitchen needs; linen closet full of towels; pull-out sofa bed; directions, menus and plenty of information about the area; and even a washer & dryer. I would highly recommend this adorable, well-maintained and clean property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
