Great Property for large group

Guest: Steve R.
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/16/11

We had a two-family vacation at this property during July 2011. My family (two kids) stayed in the casita while the larger family (4 kids) we went with stayed in the main home. It is a great location for access to the beaches at Encinitas and Cbad. Our kids loved Moonlight beach-the tide pools kept them busy and it is worth the short (5 minute) drive and 10 bucks to park. We did most of our 'living' on the big table in the courtyard-it was the center of our activites. Great details and touches on the homes-including the awesome craftsman details like windows and floors.

Thank you so much for hosting us at your lovely house! It was perfect for our group - the teens especially loved having their own separate casitas. we also enjoyed the spa dna dht chimenia as our weather was unseasonably cool. We hope you'll allow us to host you in the future either in Mexico, or Ventura, at our vacation rental homes. Thanks again!

Family Visit to Meet New Baby

Guest: Fox
Date of Stay: 04/09/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/10

This extened family arrived from the far ends of the world -- Christchurch, NZ and Arcadia, CA, to stay at Casa Leucadia and meet the newest family member, from Cardiff-by-the-Sea. "Great house, lots of places to explore and fun surprises around every corner. We loved eating outdoors, ringing the bell at the gate, playing with the lizard in the tree and M (18 mo) and L (2-1/2) found treasures everywhere! Aunt E, Uncle T and L(7 days old) came to visit every day and there was plenty of room for all. We even had an Easter egg hunt in the jungle...all in a wonderful and relaxing week!"

Happy Birthday to Sally S., 90 Years!

Date of Stay: 03/29/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/10

We had her family reunion. Family as far as Alaska and Georgia came. Seven days of fun in the sun. Remember you can walk out to the waves so don't forget to bring a board. Don't get lost in this house it is very interesting. Don't cross the street and RR tracks, just walk to the main entrance to the beach. Hope you enjoy like we did! Bikes and boogie boards were lots of fun. Great place for the reunion thanks! Thirty-two years and The Monopoly Tyrant has finally been overthrown in this very location!

Great House, Perfect for Family Affair!

Guest: Abrie (Boulder)
Date of Stay: 09/23/09 Review Submitted: 10/29/09

My whole family fell in love with this house. Plenty of space for each couple and all kids to have their own privacy and spread out. Amazing patio space with various nooks, tables & chairs (including wonderfully big, beautiful patio table with enough space for us all to dine together under the stars), walkways, beautiful landscaping - we hardly spent any time inside! Easy access with the beach just a couple minute drive away, and lots of goodies provided in the shed: bikes, bookie boards, buckets & shovels. Great place to reconnect - we were sad to leave and very much hope to return!

Awesome Family Retreat

Guest: Carrue (Larkpsur, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/01/09 Review Submitted: 09/13/09

We had a fabulous week here with three families in August. The kids adored the yard to play capture the flag. The adults loved the various courtyards for cocktails and quiet time. We ate so many meals at that wonderful square table outside that sits 10 easily and many fun board games there too. The kitchen with the big open windows was the perfect go between to the courtyard as we passed out big bowls of pasta, salad etc. All the beds were so comfortable and well maintained. The jacuzzi and hammock other fun spots for the kids. The two houses served us well as one house stayed up later than the other but there was no noise issue at all. Can't wait to come back!

Fabulous Farewell to California

Guest: Christie S (Delaware)
Date of Stay: 04/01/09 Review Submitted: 06/29/09

The Casitas at the Hacienda Retreat in Old Leucadia is a well kept secret paradise resort. My two young adult children and myself had an amazing two month stay at the Casitas as our final residence before returning to the East Coast. We adored the courtyard, the location, and the atomsphere of the place. Everything is within walking distance, be it food at a farmer's market, music at a local restaurant, or just enjoying the property with friends. We loved it, and hope to return in the near future.

Magical get-away

Guest: Suzy B (Los Angeles, CA USA)
Date of Stay: 01/08/09 Review Submitted: 02/17/09

This truly is a fantastic get-away retreat. A beautiful home with additional buildings with apartments in a very lovely, private setting: magical gardens with intriguing paths, a private compound, beautiful accommodations with every creature comfort, including a real cook's kitchen. Everything is top quality (high thread count cotton sheets, excellent mattresses, comfy duvets, comfy furniture), classy, tasteful, scrupulously clean. Comfortable nooks everywhere. A wonderful place for a romantic getaway, or for a large family reunion. In the heart of old Leucadia, close to wonderful cafes, restaurants, beaches, walking streets, etc. The only problem: The property is so delightful, serene, comfortable with nearly every creature comfort, that it's difficult to leave to explore the environs. Wonderful food stores nearby, excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches. This property is in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood. I've been recommending this property to everyone I know--it's perfect for any age group, for large or small groups of people, for short or long-term stays. Well, maybe not short-term: it was a wrenching experience to leave after only 5 days--I wanted to stay forever.

Owner response:Thank you for your review!

We only wish the weather would have been a bit warmer for us. We still got out and rode our bikes all over the area and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. And also we really liked our daily stops at Panniken Coffee just down the 101 - mmm... those muffins! Thanks for all the great personal touches at the house too! - nice cookware in the kitchen, the spices, all the books, etc. What a great place!

The extended families who had never met before came together this week at Casa Leucadia. Our children, Josh and Kendra, were united in matrimony in a beautiful ceremony in the park overlooking the ocean. The uniting of our families was accomplished as we cooked, ate, laughed and shared in the courtyard, on the porch and in the evening as everyone settled down to rest. The Walton's had nothing on us as we could call out "Night, Larry." "Night, David" (and Jan, Debbie, Cole, Drew, Kaylynn, Lauren, Teri, Kelly) (-:

It is nice having lots of room with bedrooms, bathrooms and a big courtyard patio to gather the whole bunch. We are talking about next year already- the weather has been nearly perfect for a bunch of Arizonians- Enough sun and cool breezes to make us a very happy bunch. Today is the marriage of my precious daughter Stacy Elizabeth to a wonderful man named Morgan Warner. Our family & friends from the East Coast have so enjoyed this oasis- a place where we can all come together to share laughter & good memories! It allows us "alone" time when necessary & a place to medtate & reflect on this beautiful world God has created. May God bless all who enter here & as we leave, we leave a piece of ourselves in hopes of making the world a better place. Love and peace to all!

Greetings from Wisconin. Thanks for providing a great place for larger families to stay together. We loved it and had a blast. Our kids and grandkids were equally hapy because this place ended up being just about in between them both so they could visit. Shopping, attractions and great food all within a few miles. Fallbrook Winery a small but excellent tour of a windery. Very nice to walk the beaches each morning and just being able to sit together and cook & eat a meal, followed by hours of crd games (thanks for the great big table in the beautiful gardens). The only "bummer" & uncontrollable was no sun for a week! But way better than the 19 (degree) & snow back home this week in Greenbay. Again, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving in this pleasant and charming home. The weather was lovely and allowed for the whole group (15 adults 3 children) to eat outdoors. Thanks so much for keeping the house and grounds clean and the kitchen well equipped. We needed nothing. For all that we likely will not be returning as more than half of our family is now living in the North Country area. The rest of us (grandparents/great grandparents) don't require so much space. Enjoyed ourselves. Would be glad to be references, Thanks! Warmly, Gary and Linda

This is a real oasis of calm, cool greenery. We practically lived around the big marble table in the central courtyard, getting up just to go to the beach, then come back to our marble table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The open air living is a real treat for those of us from the mosquito-nested midwest... The Updegraffs Minnesota, Santa Cruz, CA, Tennessee, Oregon

The property is great! Fun and funky feel, yet elegant. Very clean! Lots of privacy and places to sleep, yet plenty of room for togetherness, too. Extra niceties included like lots of beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, boogie boards, bicycles, paper goods and spices and such in the kitchen. Property manager is easy and nice to deal with. It felt more like staying at a friend's house than a rental property. Okay, so this is more than you need to know, but ... Arriving on a Sunday, That famous day of rest, Was certainly ideal to start A week as this house guest. We gravitated mostly To the table in the back ... For bringing friends and family All together you've a knack! We sat and told some stories (So maybe they were lies) Of how we caught those killer waves Of huge and gnarly size. We soaked in the Jacuzzi, We barbecued some steak, So happy were we in this place We found it hard to take A single trip to see the sights - Of course there's lots to do From Ocean Beach to racing tracks And don't forget the zoo. But then again that Moonlight Beach So close to "home" was grand - The boogie boards were put to use And beach chairs in the sand. Perhaps our favorite day of all Closed oh so peacefully As color filled the dusky sky And sunset met the sea. Each day we made discoveries Enjoying something new From swinging on the porch out front And tikis (one or two!) To foosball games hilarious 'Tween grandmother and son From ten years old to eighty plus There's something for each one ... Spider webs for nature buffs, Kitchen for the cook, Loungers in those shady spots To sit and read a book. By now you've prob'ly go the drift We kinda like it here - It's just the kind of place we could Come back to every year. The owners feel like friends because There's such a welcome feel And Chris has been the easiest Of folks with which to deal. So thank you very kindly For your hospitality And though we've never met you We're as grateful as can be."

Not much to add to the previous comments. We concur with it all. Our family (12 adults, 2 small children) had an enjoyable stay and pleasant Thanksgiving holiday. The weather allowed us to eat outside in your lovely garden. We all had ample space for private and public activities. I must say preparing a Thanksgiving dinner was a breeze as your kitchen was so well equipped. I hope others respect your property and your things remain in good condition. Thank you, we'd surely rent here again. Linda & Gary

Wonderful! Plenty of room for the whole clan. We especially loved the courtyard and all its plantings!

What a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday. The house has everything you could need, lots of space for us to get away from each other and places for family dinners. Perfect! Could easily live here!!! Thanks to all for this great stay. Edward Reilley

What a lovely vacation home- We had such a wonderful time-The house is stocked with every amenity and lacks for nothing- We even had trouble motivating to leave the house to do things- it was so pleasant to hang out in the gardens and just relax. Thank you Jacque + Kaz, + Chris- We hope to come back again + again- Jeannie Adair

Leucadia house was a welcome escape from a scorching Sacramento summer. Our family traditionally vacations in the Encinitas area, and we were particularly pleased with this house. Nicely located, clean and a relaxing atmosphere. We hope to return here again. Thank you! Mary & Durke
