Nestled Between Lake Michigan and Big Flower Creek
- Minimum stay:7 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Accessed by a private two-track road, the Krontoft Cottage is on the banks of Big Flower Creek and separated from the beautiful, sandy Lake Michigan waterfront by a low dune. A two-minute walk over that dune takes you to a beautiful, private beach. Or you can opt for a short rowboat or canoe ride to the beach with chairs, umbrella and cooler on board (all are provided by the owners). This cottage is also part of an association with 30 acres of shared woods for your strolling pleasure. Nature lovers relish the calm of the woods, the wildlife of the creek, and the sun and waves of the beach. It is all here.
The cottage itself is a 1970 A-frame with decks off both ends and a balcony off the upstairs bedroom. The creek end is solid windows and glass sliders. Furnished with a tasteful mix of antiques and lifestyle furniture, it provides the comfort of casual relaxation after a day of sunning on the beach, fishing on the creek, shopping along the lakeshore, golfing the great area courses, riding horses, tasting wine at the local winery, availing one of dune rides at Silver Lake or riding one of the world's longest roller coasters at Michigan Adventure. But many just stay with the cottage for the simple joy of reading a book on the beach or counting the fish, animals and birds that frolic in the creek.

We had so much fun on our first visit to this lovely vacation spot that we had to return again this year. The cottage feels like home - comfortable, inviting, and welcoming. The digital flat-screen TV was a nice surprise, and although there aren't a huge array of channels to choose from we were able to rent dvds from the Family Video store in town for those late night movie watchers in the family. The deck overlooking Big Flower Creek proved to be a favorite gathering spot as we watched the birds flying overhead and the occasional fish jumping from the water. It was a great spot to have our morning coffee and just breathe in the peaceful surroundings, and our teenaged boys enjoyed sitting on that deck and playing their guitars in that beautiful setting. The dog (and his owner) loved their early morning walks down the peaceful, country roads leading up to the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed the canoe trips down to the lake; it just added another layer of fun before we even got to the beach. I'll be hard pressed to convince my family to ever consider a vacation elsewhere because they love it at the Krontoft Cottage so much! Truth be known, although I do like to try new vacation spots I wouldn't be at all disappointed in returning to this wonderful little piece of paradise again and again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My family has rented this A-frame many times over the past two decades and we have loved every minute of it. The cottage, although small, is entirely comfortable and very peaceful ... always well maintained with everything in good working order. The scene from the wall of windows and back deck is worthy of a painting: a meandering creek where wildlife abounds. The Lake Michigan beach is wonderful, generally quite private, especially during the week. I would recommend this rental to anyone.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family has loved the 3 years of two week vacations we have spent here. The site is beautiful and quiet. THe A-frame is so well made and the furnishings are more than comfortable. Birding is great. The LAke Michigan beach, on that incredible coastline of dunes and pines, is a rowboat or walk away. We highly recommend the Krontoft Cottage.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Every summer more than half of our weeks are filled by returning renters. One of my regrets is that I haven't kept all the little thank you notes our renters have left us. I always makes me feel happy to know that our cottage has been a place for people to create wonderful experiences. This year every renter has left a list of wildlife --birds, deer, muskrats, fish, turtles and so on - that they have seen on the beach, in the woods, and in the marsh area. By the end of August there won't be anymore posting room left on the refrigerator!
