The Perfect Place!

Thank you for providing a beautiful facility in which we really enjoyed and experienced the beauty of God's creation. It was the perfect place for our ladies' retreat, where we were refreshed, renewed and re-energized. May God bless and pour out his love upon all who walk thru these doors. Micah 6:8

This is a beautiful cabin. We had a great time. We hiked the property, enjoyed the fire pit, enjoyed cooking on the Aga and made great memories. We took lots of pictures to reflect back on in the future!

Our Annual Couples Retreat

Guest: Jane & Jeff H and friends, SC
Date of Stay: 11/13/11 Review Submitted: 11/21/11

What a beautiful place and what a wonderful time we had! The house was perfect and we loved the seclusion. The guys loved trying to catch trout in the river. The kitchen was great - loved the Aga. We did a lot of shopping and hiking - made the 2+ mile trek to the top of Mount Mitchell and took pictures in the snow! Our annual couples retreat gets better every year. We all agreed this was the best rental yet and we want to come back. Thanks for sharing your place with us.

Thank you so much for your hospitality. Everyone loved the house and are ready to return again soon! The property is amazing and so well taken care of. I wouldn't be surprised if several folks call to rent the house for other functions. No one wanted to leave it was so peaceful! I really appreciate all you did to make the weekend happen for us! I will call you as soon as we have our next date.

The Perfect Setting for Our Wedding

Guest: Kate G.
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/20/11

The lodge is awesome! It was the perfect setting for our wedding; I will never forget it. I loved the setting - the creek, deck, fire pit...quiet! I cannot wait to come back! We had the ceremony under the gazebo, the reception out by the grill closest to the kitchen. It began to rain and everyone moved inside, sat on the porch or in the living room. It was utterly sublime.

Our Wedding Week

What can I say, "We had an amazing time!" After a year of planning and researching the Internet, my fiancée and I were excited to come up to this ridge to be married. Family and friends from all over the country joined us here for our special day. Having over 40 guests of all ages and interests, we can confidently say, this was the perfect setting for our wedding. The pool room, hot tub, and 2 TV's were perfect for the rainy days. When we weren't indoors, the fire pit, deck and the creek were amazing for relaxing and exploring. My wife and I now have a place we can celebrate anniversaries to come!! Thank you!!

"Our Families Rock" Vacation

Guest: The IU Crew
Date of Stay: 07/30/11 Review Submitted: 10/16/11

We truly enjoyed our stay. Kids loved fishing and skimming rocks in the river. S'mores by the fire pit were great! The house is perfect, especially the Aga! Our dinners were delicious. The seclusion was exactly what we were looking for on our 7th Annual "Our Families Rock" Vacation! Happy vacationing!

Remote Getaway is Top Notch

Guest: Kim (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 03/03/11 Review Submitted: 03/26/11

I really loved the warm feel of the house. The décor at was both classy and rustic. Every room was welcoming. We had plenty of places to go in the house for privacy and there were also living spaces large enough for our entire group to socialize. The kitchen area was an excellent gathering place. We had fun sharing food and stories there. I think that this lodge would be an excellent place for a family reunion or getaway for a large group. My bed was very comfortable. Usually in such a large house, I would feel cold. Not there. It was very warm all over the house and did not feel drafty at all. I think it's due to the large oven from Europe. The lodge is secluded and at the same time, conveniently located near Asheville. That's where I spent most of my vacation. My only regret about my stay is that I did not get to hike to the nearby waterfall due to the rain. Thanks for a great stay!

Owner response:We love the warmth of the Aga in the winter also. This amazing stove was invented in Sweden by a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and is most popular in cold, damp climates throughout the world. In fact, In the year 2000, the BBC chose the Aga stove as one of the top 3 design icons of the 20th Century. The Aga took the number three spot after the Coca-Cola® contour bottle and the VW™ Bug! We hope you noticed that we also have an electric convection range in our kitchen. We installed this new appliance in 2011 so that we can turn the Aga off during the warmer summer months when we all want to escape the heat. Sorry the rain kept you from hiking the beautiful local waterfalls. It's great fun to have three waterfalls just minutes from the lodge; they are a magnificent experience on a lovely day!

Amazing Retreat Site

Rarely does a location exceed its recommendations. Rivers Ridge did just that. Breathtaking location perched on a rock overlooking the river. The luxurious accommodations. The wrap around deck. The fire pit by the riverside. The privacy. God blessed our retreat on so many levels. The Bar BQ that was catered in was beyond belief. Fabulous & reasonable. A place to get away and just be. The 19 men who attended already want it reserved for next year!

We came to celebrate our Mother's 80th Birthday - 27 of us from Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Wilmington, NC as well as Ellicott City and Ocean City, MD and Washington, DC. We set up a volleyball net down by the flat area by the fire pit. We creek-walked, skipped rocks and floated bark boats in the creek. Wished it had been warm enough to go tubing. Hiked some falls nearby and went to OctoberFest in Old Fort. Memories made here will live on in our hearts forever.

Thank you so much for allowing us to spend my cousin's wedding weekend in your home. Now that we are spread out all over the United States, it was nice to have one place for ALL of us to stay and spend time together. This trip meant a lot to us. And we especially enjoyed the hot tub and the pool table. Thanks!

Thank you for allowing us to spend 5 wonderful days in your home. This trip was very emotional for us and very important. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer last month and this was to be her last real vacation. All of her brothers and sisters and wives and husbands that could come, we were here. We really didn't do much of anything but be with her and enjoy your home. This was her first trip to the mountains and she said she had the time of her life! These will be memories we will always cherish! Thanks again!

It would take more time than I have to tell what a wonderful time we had this week! We get together twice a year - once in the summer and at Christmas at our home. This was our favorite summer! The river, the scenery, the house, the deck, the fire-pit, the kitchen, the rec area - we have loved it all! Thanks be to God for this place and this week! And especially our wonderful family of 14.

Our wedding was the fulfillment of my fairy tale dream. This place is absolutely breathtaking and I feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Our group was of various people and all age groups but everyone stayed entertained the entire time. I even enjoyed the new experience with the Aga. It cuts meal times down and the warmer is very handy for a large crowd. I have not one single regret about this event and I think all our guests will be talking about it years from now. All happy memories, thanks so much!

Thank you, our family gathering at this amazing Lodge was like home away from home but better than home. The setting has been perfect; the trees and trails; the deck and outdoor grill; the hot tub and stream and last but not least - the fire pit! Inside the lodge there were 12 of us and we all found our perfect place for times of rest, relaxation and recreation. Somehow playing pool in the wonderful game room here is a lot more fun than playing at home. We did enjoy the Aga – our turkey may have been our best ever! On behalf of our dozen, thanks again

We’re from Louisiana where what you eat and how it’s fixed and the family and friends you share it with are of the utmost importance. Oh sure, we hiked and rafted, rode horses, visited the Biltmore and Black Mountain. The hot tub was wonderful, the bed linens a treat and furnishings lovely. But at the end of the day, it was all about the Aga! You can’t imagine how much excitement and discussion the stove provoked between the meals we cooked. We gathered around the stove as breakfasts, lunches and suppers were prepared. There was roasted chicken, BBQ pork ribs, tacos and a great peach cobbler. These 12 Louisianians loved the Aga stove! We were in heaven and were very sad to leave it and the house behind. Thank you so much.

"Just a brief note to thank you for your hospitality - we certainly enjoyed our stay at 'The Lodge' - it's lovely. It was great for my Mom's 86th birthday - she really had a wonderful time. P.S. Our 8 year old granddaughter loved the fishing. She told her grandfather, 'Papa, you and I are really nature people.' She did not want to leave."
