This charming old city apartment exceeded our expectations! Picturesque street by Albertas Fountain, beautifully appointed Provencal furnishings, modern comfort, thoughtful and responsive owner, welcome basket, wifi, surrounded by superb bakeries and restaurants, exquisite shopping and historic churches and museums close by. Even perfect October weather! A place to return to anytime.

Our trip in May 2013 was our third to Aix and our third stay in this wonderful apartment. (We also stayed there in 2009 and 2010.) In fact, I would never consider staying anywhere else in Aix! The apartment is just as beautiful and comfortable as it appears in the photos. The bright, tasteful decor underscores the fact that you are in Provence and the bed, linens, etc. are of very high quality. Altogether, the apartment is full of warmth, light, comfort and a feeling of airiness. Even in the heat of August, the shutters keep out the sun and the ceiling fans and many windows mean the apartment is comfortable in the evening We tend to cook all our meals rather than go to restaurants, and the apartment is perfect for this. The kitchen is very well-equipped, the Monoprix (grocery store) is just around the corner, a boulangerie is close and the daily market with its fresh fruit and vegetables is just up the street (no more than 5 minutes from the apartment door). The apartment has a washer and dryer (though we use the clothes rack for drying), a TV, a radio/CD player, wi-fi, and a phone with free calling to the US. The owner is welcoming and attentive. She makes sure that the apartment is spotless before a guest arrives, personally welcomes guests, and promptly takes care of any maintenance issues (though there are very few of these). Since she has lived in Provence for many years, she has a wealth of knowledge about the area. (She also has a wonderful selection of music CDs in the apartment.) The apartment has both the advantages and disadvantages of its location right in the heart of the central (old) part of the city. Being on the third floor (fourth floor American - and you do have to walk up), you look over the busy rue Espariat. Stepping out the door, you are in the midst of the winding, narrow old streets, the yellow-hued buildings, the shops, the squares with their fountains and cafés, and the life and bustle of the town. The tree-lined, stately Cours Mirabeau is only two short blocks away. However, on warm summer nights, the streets can be full of people, laughter, and talk until quite late. In compensation, in the quiet of early morning, the sound of the fountain in the Place d'Albertas can be clearly heard. It's a wonderful base for exploring Aix and the Montagne Sainte Victoire and, with a rented car, large parts of Provence. We would gladly recommend this apartment to a friend or relative and we look forward to our next stay there!

Owner response: Dear Barbara, I can't tell you how flattered and pleased I am that you and John have chose my property as your 'home away from home' for each of your extensive visits to Aix-en-Provence. As you know, I too stay in the property when it is unrented, and have always made sure that improvements and upgrades are a priority. Plus, knowing you'll be back keeps me on my toes!! I look forward to your next stay and thank you again for this lovely review. xoxox

This apartment was perfectly located in the centre of old Aix, within very short walking distance of the Cours Mirabeau, Hotel de Ville, the cathedral, Palais de Justice, restaurants, bakeries, shops, etc. There were no restaurants or bars in the immediate vicinity of the apartment, so it was quiet in the evening and at night. The apartment was comfortably furnished, with lots of closet space. The kitchen was very well equipped. The owner was a pleasure to deal with, and gave us a detailed orientation when we arrived.

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights in this beautiful apartment that is right in the heart of the City Center of Aix en Provence. Holly was a tremendous host and was there to greet us when we arrived. The pictures do not do justice to this well decorated and furnished apartment. All the comforts of home were available from the fully equipped kitchen that allowed us to cook all our meals while we were there, and the wi-fi and free calling back to the states from the phone at the apartment. We left the windows open the whole time and had a nice breeze that came through and the nights were nice and cool for sleeping. Everything you need is in walking distance including great restaurants and the Monoprix for all your shopping needs. Fantastic apartment, fantastic host. Thanks Holly!

In the past, I have rented several vacation properties in several different countries. This location and experience was the best I've ever had. Holly was so helpful and patient and was great to deal with. Among several other things, she worked very hard with me for some time to ensure that I was able to 'sort out' my dates. Holly's place which is so tastefully decorated in French provencial colors. It is charming, light, and spacious. The apartment is clean and well maintained and has all the amenities necessary to make your stay a great one. Holly maintains a high standard in her furnishings, kitchen supplies, etc. and includes many extra touches which are not required but very much appreciated(ie-wine and flowers upon arrival). The apartment which is in an ideal location is close to the farmers' markets, shops, cultural sights, restaurants, beautiful fountains, Cours Mirabeau, Tourism Information, buses, etc. etc. etc. The house manager, Poala is also very accessible and responds quickly to any questions/requests.

I know that you have had the good fortune to stay for a wonderful bit of time this year, but if you ever plan to come back to Aix-en-Provence, well, please come back 'home'.

Our stay at Aix Mirabeau was a wonderful experience-the apartment was beautifully decorated, well equipped, clean and has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in a centrally located area of Aix. Aix is a great home base to explore many other towns in Provence, whether you drive or take one of the many days trips available from the Tourist Center, just blocks away. We can't say enough nice things about the owner - she immediately responded to our inquiry about the apartment and pretty much assisted us through our entire trip - whether it was a question about how to best get there, to what side trips to take. It is very comforting to have a local guide you. We would highly recommend this apartment if your travel plans take you to Aix.

I have rented many a vacation property over the years, both in Europe and in the USA. Holly is without doubt the best owner I’ve ever dealt with. It is so reassuring when an owner of a property so promptly responds to an e-mail and is so pleasant and helpful. Holly was in New York, so we did not meet her personally. Her local property manager, Paola, is also quite pleasant, accessible, and helpful. The apartment is in a superb location, it is very comfortable, and well-appointed. It is amazingly quiet, despite its central location. Aix has a clever system of street barriers, so it is not easy to drive a car to the apartment. However, the parking garage (Rotunde) is about a 10 minute walk away and is huge. So, it is not difficult to find a parking spot. It costs about 13 Euros per 24 hours to park a car there. There are lots of wonderful restaurants just minutes away (Le Formal, in particular) and the Monoprix is equally close. You will enjoy your stay here.

We are a couple who loved this place. The apartment is charming...and yes, that means it is not large. It is perfect for two people, and only two people. You are in the very centre of the old city and every one of its sites. More important, you are about a short walk from the stop for the airport bus...so no car required. You can fly to the Marseille Airport, take a half-hour bus ride to Aix (stop right at the airport), then walk 15 minutes and you are home. The bed is comfy and the kitchen complete.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: I've welcomed visitors to France since 2001. Though a native New Yorker, I think I must have been French in another life, and have since very happily relocated to Provence in 2007, dividing my time between the apartments (see also VRBO #394861) in Aix en Provence and the house in the Luberon (VRBO #57385) This place is truly everything the guidebooks say it is - Paradise on Earth. As the French saying goes, 'On vie bien en Provence!' [we live well here] and so I hope to welcome you to this magical part of the world.

Why the Owner Chose Aix en Provence:
Perhaps only someone who has never visited Aix-en-Provence might ask the question 'why settle here?'. A friend once commented - 'you no longer take vacations since it seems staying in Provence is enough of one for you'. Please do come and experience the area for youself. You will understand.......

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The apartment is romantic, cheerful, comfortable and the location is excellent - if you wish to visit all of Provence, or just spend your time wandering the beautiful city of Aix. Please come and visit, and make this apartment your home in the South of France.
