'We've been renting houses at the Connecticut shore for six years, and your house is by far the nicest! There was plenty of room for the family and all of our friends and extended family who came to visit. Even with three messy teenagers, there's so much room the house always felt clean and comfortable. This has been such a relaxing vacation with all (and more) of the comforts of home.'
The London Family, Columbia, MD 8/8/09
We are located just four houses in from the water- a two minute walk, with a lovely water view from the front yard. On the first floor, there is a large eat-in kitchen, a dining room that easily seats eight, living room, sun-room with table and chairs, and a full bathroom. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms (all with queen beds) and a full bathroom. Additionally, upstairs, there is a den with 60 inch flat screen TV that converts to a sleeping area for three (futon and single sofa bed). The den has sliding doors that open to an outside deck.
Also, an upstairs sitting area with TV can sleep one adult or two children on a futon. In the back yard the house has a large deck with picnic table and charcoal grill. We have converted the one-car garage to a game room with a ping-pong table, games, toys, and books.
The house is fully equipped with linens, towels, paper supplies and even some sodas in the fridge to welcome you to the beach. The spacious kitchen has new appliances including dishwasher, refrigerator with in-the-door icemaker and gas range/oven. It is equipped with pots, pans, utensils and dishes. There is a microwave, blender, toaster and coffee maker. You can eat at the kitchen table or serve a larger group in the dining room, have an intimate meal in the sunroom or have a family picnic out on the back porch/deck. Smoking outdoors only, please.
Our child-friendly home has two pack and plays, high chair, stroller, beach toys, Ikea plastic ware, and lots of kids' toys and DVDs.
During the summer season, the house is available by the week only. Your stay begins Sunday at 4 pm and extends until the following Sunday at 11 am. During the rest of the year, it is available for rent by the weekend, week, month, or longer. We do not charge a separate cleaning fee; the home is cleaned between guests and the fee is included in our rates.

COAST GUARD ACADEMY
We are just ten minutes away from the U.S Coast Guard Academy.
NAVY SUBMARINE BASE
We are about 20 minutes from the US Navy Submarine Base Groton/ New London.
CONNECTICUT COLLEGE (10 minutes) and MITCHELL COLLEGE (2 minutes)
Private Guthrie Beach is sandy and pleasant, only steps away and right on Long Island Sound. The beach is yours to enjoy while renting the house. It has restrooms and is attended in season for your comfort and security but there is no lifeguard on duty. There is a roped swimming area and sunning/diving platform. Bring your picnic lunch and enjoy the picnic tables. We provide beach chairs, umbrella and coolers. The house has plenty of beach towels and beach toys for the family!
Bring along your bike and take a ride or walk along the seawall about a half mile to Ocean Beach Park with its boardwalk, kids waterpark, rides, food and activities.
Drive five minutes and hop on a Ferry to Block Island or Orient Point, Long Island. Mystic is only a ten to fifteen minute drive away and features Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium. A 20-30 minute car ride gets you to the three largest casinos in the world, Mohegan Sun, MGM Grand and Foxwoods, with entertainment and dining options too numerous to count. The family will LOVE the new Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville at the Mohegan! And all of this is only two hours from Boston and 2 1/2 hours from New York City.
Summer at the Connecticut shore is beautiful! One of the high points of summer in New London is Sailfest - a celebration of ships and the sea in early July, with its huge fireworks display over a harbor absolutely alive with colorful boats and visitors. Walk a few blocks, pick out your viewing spot and let others deal with the traffic.
New London is an arts lovers haven with galleries, artist colonies, live music, theatre and performing arts.
Harkness Memorial State Park, Rocky Neck State Park, Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium. Ferries to Block Island and Long Island are ten minutes away. Connecticut College, Mitchell College, and Coast Guard Academy are close by. To get to New York or Boston, interstate 95 is nearby or there is a nearby train station, an Acela Express stop. A Greyhound Bus station is also in New London. Local buses (SEAT) can take you to malls and downtown.

Home away from home
Your home was very quiet and comfortable for us. We wanted an alternative to a hotel room as we were bringing our son's girlfriend out to visit our son at the USCG Academy. There was a holiday ball last night and the close proximity to the Academy was nice. The beds were comfortable. We appreciate the added touches - a quite comfortable home away from home. We ate at The Northern Indian restaurant and right across the street was a nice find - Mangetout! We are mostly vegetarian and enjoyed their menu. Even the weather cooperated (it was snowing back in California). Thanks again!

Truly enjoyed our stay!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us! We were amazed at how well stocked your home is - there was nothing we lacked! We rented the house for the main purpose of a mini family reunion, which worked out perfectly for us. Some of our favorite activities: My husband and I walked nearly every day to Ocean Beach and Alewife Cove. Beautiful and tranquil - particularly in the month of October. Restaurants we visited - On the Waterfront, Fred's Shanty, Recovery Room, Chaplin's, Captain Scott's Lobster Dock, Bean and Leaf (coffee), and our very favorite of the immediate area - Tony D's - loved it! We also made a trip to Rhode Island - Watch Hill and Galilee where we had a fantastic lunch at George's! We ran into some locals who suggested the grounds of the Eugene O'Neill Theatre for walking, in addition to Harkness Memorial Park. Once again, thank you! All of us truly enjoyed our stay at your home.

Wonderful timeGuest comment entered by owner
We had a wonderful time. The weather was amazing for all the great activities at the academy and my grandson really enjoyed all the amenities at the house! The view from the balcony, the spaciousness of the house, and the close walk to the beach were wonderful. The house had everything we needed.

Fun family reunionGuest comment entered by owner
Fun family reunion
Our family reunion was very fun here in New London. Perfect weather, except rain one night, allowed us days at the beach, several playgrounds, ice cream at Fred's Shanty, lighted bost parade from the Coast Guard station, Schooner Festival happenings, cruise on the Argia in Mystic and fun watching the grandchildren enjoy the toys you provided. As a fellow VRBO owner in the Northwest and our first time using one, it was fun to see the amenities you provided. The house was comfortable for us. Sorry we didn't get to meet you. Thanks again! P.S. if anyone reading this wants a wonderful vacation in the San Juan Islands in Washington State, check out our website at www.vrbo.com/328087. It is in the beach, 3 BR, 3 BA, all five star reviews.

Beach! Beach! Beach!
Our French-Canadian troupe were delighted with their vacation! The sun, proximity of the beach, as well as its array of services were more than appreciated. We especially enjoyed the non-touristic feel of New London! Great memories. Thank you!

Exactly what we needed!
What a wonderful week we had! Trips to the beach, Mystic Aquarium and Essex Steam Train were so memorable. We especially enjoyed dining at Avanti's in Mystic, Captain Scott's Lobster Dock, and of course On the Waterfront! Hope to return soon. Thanks for the use of your comfortable and convenient home - it was exactly what we needed! Tyler especially enjoyed all of the toys! All the best.

Very enjoyable stay!
Very enjoyable stay!
We stayed here for two weeks and the house was very comfortable. It was spacious enough that we had somewhere for all 11 of us to sleep. The house is close to the beach and is part of a beautiful neighborhood. We went down to walk on the beach several times and spent one afternoon there. The attendants on the beach were friendly, they set up some chairs for us to sit in while the kids played. The owners of the house are also very friendly and easy to deal with, either by phone or email. They were very quick to resolve any issue we were having. The toaster stopped working one evening and the next morning Carolyn brought us a new one. When the previous renters let them know that there had been a problem with the shower, they got up with me right away and worked out a time for a plumber to come and look at it. It was a very pleasant stay and I would definitely stay here again. I only wish the weather had been a little less rainy on our trip. Oh, and my damage deposit on the house was refunded within a week of our leaving.
