Great Property but Pool Closed and So-So Unit

We stayed here 5 nights in January 2012. It's an excellent property with awesome views of the Pacific. The 2nd floor units have better views and are far more airy and spacious. This unit is on the ground floor and seemed cramped. Decor is nice, as advertised and the office area is great. If you intend to use the printer, be sure to bring your own paper. The first night, we noticed a VERY strong odor of mildew coming from the mattress pillow top. It was so bad that we had to sleep in the 2nd bedroom. We called Regency Pacific and the problem was fixed the next day. This sort of problem is small and to be expected, but we were not prepared for the other problems that lay ahead. During our entire stay, the pool was CLOSED because it was being remodeled. There was no info on when it would re-open, so be sure to check on this. No one advised us of this when we booked, which I saw as a pretty big omission on the part of the agent. We usually spend a LOT of time at the pool, so this was a MAJOR issue for us. The kitchen was well-stocked and clean, but as a result of the remodel, we weren't able to open a couple of the utensil drawers because the new stove was blocking them. Also, some of the cupboards wouldn't stay shut. Weird. We tried to use the George Foreman grill one night to cook our steaks, but when we took off the cover, we discovered it was caked in very heavy mold. So much for steaks on the grill. These were all minor annoyances, but they built up to take away from the stay. I contacted Regency Pacific to report the problems and ask for a partial refund, but they never returned my calls or emails. That alone was the most disappointing part of the stay and will ensure that we will not go through this company again when we book my next trip to Kauai.

Owner response:The pool decking & pool funiture has been beautifully renovated, unfortunately it had not been completed at that time. It will be open March 1st, 2012. The unit had both bathrooms upgraded and work was done. Perhaps that was the cause of the mildew (this was resolved). The kitchen is modern and drawers do open & close and the Bar B Q will be double checked in the future (first complaint). We loved this place. The amenities are awesome. Only suggestion-hold the monsoon the day we packed up and left. Hubby wore swim suit to load the car:) The only thing you forgot were helicopter tickets & fresh fish in the fridge-Ha Ha. Saw our first Albatross! Nenes were very friendly & roosters so pretty. Awesome stay-thanks for the hospitality. What more could one want!

We had a wonderful time. We have been to Kauai several times and have always stayed on the Poipu side. We are hooked. We had our honeymoon here (38 years ago) and this side of the island hasn't changed. The snorkeling at Tunnels is the best-get there early. The Hanalei Dolphin restaurant is great for dinner. On the other side of the island, the Beach House restaurant is good and you get a great sunset with your dinner. Well, it's time for me to go pack. We are leaving paradise now but will be back soon.

A truly wonderful place! From the spectacular views to the glorious sunsets - this home is a gem. Thanks for sharing it with us. This is our 4th trip to Hawaii (2nd to Kauai) and this is by far the best. The snorkeling at the beach here is the best I have seen so far. When can we come back? Thanks again for a great time.

What a wonderful time we had for our first trip to Kauai! Thank you for the use of your lovely condo with all it's amenities. We enjoyed the sunset cruise of NaPali Coast on Kauai Sea Tours. Loved the Hanalei beaches, Dolphin restaurant, Scotty's in Kapa'a. The Nenes 702, 701, 499 & TP always at our porch begging for biscuits:) We will definitely come back to the North Shore.

You were correct, Dennis, this is a wonderfully appointed condo and we love it! We can't think of anything you have forgotten. Our stay has been fantastic. Whale watching has been good - don't even need to go outside although we find ourselves drawn to the edge of the cliff when we see activity. Took the long drive to Waimea Canyon yesterday - it was worth the drive and long day. Found some good golf deals online-no need to pay full price. Thanks for a great home which has made our stay more enjoyable!

Chris & Dennis, Thanks for sharing your beautiful condo. We come to Kauai often, and your attention to details is very much appreciated. Nice to actually sit and relax a bit on vacation (thanks to the homey feel). Surf was pretty good this week-we got waves at least once a day & some golf at the Makai course. The nenes came by to say hello daily, Yoga Hanalei was great (& Nedies brazilian food after-yum). Good breakfast at Wake Up cafe (Hanalei papaya bowl A-plus). Best vegetarian dinner at Blossoming Lotus in Kapa'a-worth a drive! Kauai is truly a magical place that keeps bringing us back. We are always sad to leave. What a week it has been! This has been a very relaxing, fun vacation (honeymoon). Finally I won't need a vacation from my vacation when we get home. We absolutely loved it here. This is our first time in Hawaii-and it was more incredible than we could have imagined. The condo was wonderful, comfortable and "homey". Thanks so much! Cafe Hanalei & other restaurants at Princeville Resort were spectacular. Found out-I'm sure locals know-for best views dine very early. Although a two hour ride Waimea Canyon is not to be missed.
