To the south, the jagged architectural masterpiece of the Shard, the European Union’s tallest building, towers over the otherwise flat and homely Borough, itself served by the bustling Borough Market, where food vendors jostle amiably to proffer a take-away meal to be enjoyed sitting in the grounds of Southwark Cathedral. Walking along the river one can take in the Southbank at leisure, from the imposing Tate Modern or sobering Imperial War Museum, to HMS Belfast and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre, or possibly all of the above from atop the London Eye!
