Winchester house description

Step back in time with a stay in the historic, completely renovated Peter Miller house, built in 1802. It is like having the run of your very own Bed and Breakfast in the heart of historic Old Town Winchester, just steps from restaurants, museums, shops, concerts, farmers markets and more! The home has been restored and furnished with antiques and artwork, plus all the modern conveniences.

This home is two blocks from the pedestrian mall which is the heart of Old Town Winchester that featuring many unique shops, art galleries, restaurants, museums, outdoor concerts, and a farmers' market. Also, minutes from George Washington's Headquarters, Shenandoah University, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, the Discovery Museum and Handley Library.

The home features three full bedrooms on the second floor: one with a king bed, one with a queen bed and one with a full/double bed. There is an additional full/double in large landing area. The kitchen is completely updated and features upgraded appliances and everything you'd need to prepare meals. Also on the first floor is a formal dining room, living room, laundry room and full bath. Step outside and enjoy the bricked patio and fenced backyard. Winchester is located at the northern tip of Virginia in the naturally beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley. The area is known for its important role in the Civil War, as the home of Patsy Cline and the Apple Blossom Festival. There is much to do and see in Winchester and the surrounding area, including lots of hiking, antiquing, and historic exploring.

You are close enough to Washington and Baltimore to explore the big cities and return to the house. There are many caverns in the area and Skyline Drive is just minutes away. You are a short drive away to many sights in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and western Maryland and southern Pennsylvania, including many Civil War sights of significance: Harpers Ferry, Antietam, Gettysburg and more.

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 2004

About the owner: Jonathan is a master woodworker/furniture maker and jazz musician. His many talents help us to furnish and restore the home. To see some of his work, google him (The Building Arts Co) or Jon Rose Jazz on Facebook. He's in the process of opening The Fret Shop at 201 S Braddock St - that repairs, sells and consigns fretted instruments (from guitars to dulcimers.) Justine works for the local public school system helping to support kids and families. Our family loves history and being outdoors - our vacations often feature trips to National Parks and historic sites. We live in a restored farmhouse outside of Winchester with our dog, cats and some chickens.

              Why the Owner Chose Winchester:
We love old historic homes and purchased this house from friends. Although we live in the country, we appreciate the time we spend at this house in Winchester - what a treat to be able to walk to restaurants, parks, concerts or so much more.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Even though you're staying right in the historic district, right 'downtown' the house is quiet and the yard has been described as an oasis.
