A lovely property with even more lovely owners. Toni & Kim could not have been more hospitable, respectful of our privacy, and easy to deal with. The property itself was excellent, more space than we needed, and we were very comfortable our entire stay here. I would not hesitate to rent from them again, and if returning to Big Island this would be my preferred stay. Thanks!

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful custom home in Paradise Park. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the knowledge of the host. We spent too much time being tourist and not enoughtime enjoying this property. We picked fruit in the mornings and even had coconut! The farmer's market down teh street (Makuu) was wonderful, can't wait to go back. Tip: Buy fresh fish at Makuu and have dinner at home, walk to the coast from this house, too!

There are so many wonderful things to say about this great house that it is hard to know where to begin. First off, it is absolutely spotless and so well stocked. I don't think I have ever been in a cleaner house! The kitchen has every single utensil you could possibly ever need. Also, there we lots of movies, music, games, books, etc. to keep you entertained. The main living room/dining/kitchen room is very open and the view with all the windows is just amazing. In the morning you can watch the sunrise and listen to the birds and other animals begin their day. We stayed in the master bedroom and loved falling asleep to the sounds of the forest around us. It cools off nicely in the evening, so it was nice not to need any A/C. The grounds are so well kept and the vegetation really makes you feel like you are in a tropical paradise. And then there is the pool. What a pool! I wish I had set aside a whole day just to lounge by the magnificent pool. It was so beautiful and relaxing. Toni was so wonderful to work with and very accommodating to our needs. Staying here was definitely one of the highlights of our 2 week Big Island trip. If you are thinking of staying on this side of the island, this is the place. You won't regret it!

I have stayed here three times for a total of 5 weeks. Each time I like it more. This is great base of operation for the Hilo side of the Island. It have true Hawaiian charm. The grounds are like a park. We love the open air design, and love the trade winds keeping the house cool. It is a short walk to the Ocean to watch sun rise or whales when they are migrating.

This place is truly unbelievable. My wife, 1-year old daughter, and myself stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. A couple of acres of complete serenity and non-stop fruit trees gave our newly exploring daughter tons of space to run around. The house was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. The master bedroom has windows that open right up into the yard and waking up to the rain there is an beautiful experience. The pool is incredible...I've never seen anything like it with its irregular shape and the gold-fish ponds located on the other side. It was walled in with a beautiful lava-rock wall and gate so there was never fear of our daughter accessing it without us. My wife loved this place. Toni and Kim were extremely hospitable and friendly...it was a joy spending a little time with them and getting further insights as to what the rest of the island offered. I would recommend renting a 4x4...while this place is completely accessible by car, if you are a little adventurous and want to explore the surrounding area in its entirety, a 4x4 is tons of fun. Of note, and in relation to an earlier review comment, the frog noise at night is everywhere on the Hilo side of the island...it has nothing to do with this place, specifically. It really is quite relaxing. I cannot say enough good about this place...have a blast! Chris & Lisa Chris & Lisa

We were very pleased with the house. It has a rustic feel which fits in well with the area. We found it to be clean and well-appointed. The small bed in the office was perfect for our two-and-a-half-year-old, but was big enough for me to share with her for a nap one afternoon. We couldn't get enough of the swimming pool (reef socks/water shoes are recommended), and the two toddlers in our group loved the koi pond. The black bottom of the pool kept the water nice and warm. The house was a convenient base (car required) for visits to Hawaii Volcanoes NP, Hilo, Puna, the Hamakua Coast, and Mauna Kea. We also stayed on the Kohala Coast and visited Kailua-Kona on this trip, but ultimately found this side of the island to be more to our liking. Although it does rain quite a bit, there is also warm sunshine every day. Plus, Hilo is a great little town. One last thing: we highly recommend Kaleo's Restaurant in Pahoa for its good food and live music nearly every night.

We would absolutely recommend this lovely home, especially if there are several people or children in the party. It's a bit off the beaten path, so teenagers would likely find it a bit too isolated. As an escape from the stress and noise of city life, it's perfect! The owners are lovely and we were very pleased with the communication we received. The 11:30PM call to give us the details of the tsunami warning was especially appreciated and thoughtful! A few items of note...The tree frogs are quite noisy, and some of the bedrooms do not have windows that close. If you're a light sleeper that may be an issue. The pool is beautiful, but be sure to bring or buy water socks because the bottom is a bit rough and irregular. And be sure to take advantage of the fantastic grill and excellent fresh seafood while you're there!

We couldn't have been more pleased. Wake up to the sun rising behind the trees in the garden bedroom of this large and peaceful home. Everything about this property is "ono"! Excellent communication with owner. I am amazed she would share this beautiful home.

My daughters, 10 and 13, and I had an absolutely wonderful time; we did not want to leave: coffee by the koi and lily ponds, the delightful swimming pool, the geckos, lizards, toads, frogs, giant snails, flowers, fruit trees, evening rains, centrally located home...awesome! We are already planning our next trip back to this "Hawaiian Haven", and bring our menfolk this time. The house is decorated beautifully, has more than enough room to spread out, has everything one needs and the kitchen is well appointed. The Sunday local market is fun, unique and combined with the farmers market in Hilo, you can stay stocked in fresh fruit and vegetables on the cheap--so nice. We enjoyed snorkeling at the tidepools and swimming in the hotpond in Kapoho, our adventure to Shipman Beach on the Government Beach Trail near the house, walking to the ocean from Beach Road, and hanging out at the pool at the house for the day. It was especially fun taking the flashlight out at night and checking out the cane toads, geckos, snails, newts, bats, and other creatures that inhabit Hawaii. It was a pleasure to lay our heads down at night and listen to the crashing waves, the rain and the frogs chirping us to sleep. One quickly gets used this life in paradise...we can't wait to come back!

This vacation rental was generous in more ways than one. This well appointed home was like walking into a world of discovery. The koi and water lily ponds were spectacular for photographing at all times of the day. And the kitchen would please a chef of any caliber. The location made it easy to get to the volcano at the break of dawn for those award winning photos and to the market in Hilo for produce to prepare dinner that same evening. Not to mention all the points of interest inbetween. September is said to be the hottest month in Hawaii yet the cool breezes would roll in after sundown and it seemed to rain during most nights which made sleeping a delight. Mahalo for such an expressive stay...

                      Why the Owner Chose Keaau:
We chose this home for so many reasons. First for the peaceful setting, away from the city noises and traffic. Also the location, remote but easily accessible to all East side activities and destinations. Having our own private well with the best water on the island was and still is a very special treat. Our home contains a separate private detached unit with a private garden view that allows us to share our unique space with others. We fell in love at first site. We know you will too.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
We love the views, the cool trade wind breezes, the expanse and privacy of the two landscaped acres with private botanical surroundings. Falling asleep to the tropical sounds and waking to the sunrise and birds singing. Swimming in our pool anytime day or night, and showers in our enclosed outdoor shower. Feeding the koi in the mornings. Evening walks around the 2 acres to check on our fruit trees. Enjoying Island coffee in the mornings and island drinks in the evenings. A vacation retreat of our very own.
